Zambia will treat next friendly next week with the respect it deserves going by their latest standings on the Fifa/Coca Cola rankings released today, Wednesday.
For the first time ever, Zambia has fallen outside the top `100 on the Fifa rankings dropping 20 places from 81 to 101.
Incidentally, Zambia are level with the last team they played Kuwait who beat them 4-0 in a friendly on New Years eve in Cairo.
This is Zambia’s worst showing on the Fifa charts since Fifa started generating the table in 1993 when the team was rated 25th in the World.
Zambia’s best rating on the charts was when they peaked at number 15 in November 1995.
Meanwhile, Zambia leave for Nairobi on Saturday ahead of the friendly match to be played on February 9 hoping a win their will help push them back into the top 100.
20 players in all including Collins Mbesuma are expected to make the trip to Nairobi.
Hosts Kenya are ranked 127 in the World.

Ba chipolopolo poseniko amano!
Congrats Kalusha!
We havemade so much investment in Soccer money wise. There is political will as was in the KK times. The lads have exposure in some European leagues.Maybe our neighbours have just got better rather than think that we have worsened in standards??
Whoever doez theze ratingz iz very generous, Zambia should not be rated at all!
The unresolved issues at football house may be to blame for the fall in ranking of our national team.Good luck as you play Kenya.
Who was FAZ president at the time zambia peaked?Galu should answer this question.
Again I predict a zambia loss 1-0 to Kenya. Kenya is by far much better than kuwait. There is something very wrong at FAZ. Zambia should have tried to arrange a match against Angola, who are silimilar to Mozambique in their style of play. Who ever took Zambia to face kuwait better check their brains. nothing was gained from that match, but except shame on footbal loving Zambians.
With all the administrators either incompetent or at each other’s throat, what do you expect?
Who used to score goals in 1995 ?
What do you expect when you have govt fighting faz and highest levels of indiscipline ever thru Simataa ?
@ 10 Government has never been fighting FAZ why can’t you accept that Kalusha has brought these promblems at football house you tell me why did his Vice resign did Smataa have anything to do with that. You need people like Simataa to help correct things at football house. You tell your Kalu that Egypt is coming to FAZ.
A lot of nations have progressed in sport, including football, because they have adopted more progressive nationality rules. Dual nationality and allowing for second generation children to play for the Countries of their immigrant parents is what has helped a lot of Countries. But again, Zambia being Zambia, some wise person on this forum will call me names for pointing this out. I keep my peace.
#6 AND # YOU SICK.u nid some treatment.Simaata has nothing to do with the rating.its yo kalusha AKA Galu.they organise friendlies with no knowledge.poor adminstration. This boy called kalu has really failed.anyway he is going on 26th March 2011 at AGM.I am a member of FAZ and i vote at AGM.So,If you dont vote then stop arguing coz whatever you say,me i vote and yo boy Galu kalu is going.Cant wait for AGM.
@#2 & 6 The Ranking has noting to do with Kalusha, its purely the calibre of players we have. The Players are to blame but as usual the Coach and Administrators will get the cane.Even if Kalu wasn’t there we would have shown poorly…we have steadfastly being declining.
So Guys cheap shots are not permissible here, if you know Soccer, you will realize that after the Gabon disaster, we lost a generation of talent…which will take sometime.
If the quality of football in Zambia was AIDS, Zambia would be at Leopards Hill Cemetery 6-feet under by now! Blame Kalusha, blame Simataa, blame anybody you like. The truth is that in Zambia we just talk too much, no action. But putting Kalusha in that FAZ President post has not helped matters at all. Kalusha is the president, he is the one to blame. Like Rupiah Banda, Kalusha can’t start to come up with excuses that blame previous regimes. If that is what he is saying, then he doesn’t deserve to be a leader and he should go. The truth will always be there, that under Kalusha football talent in Zambia has worsened to levels never seen since independence; he is terrible for Zambian football. Look at the mess FAZ is in, who is to blame for all that shit? Galu!!
@15 Ba Jackal…you started so well and gave your self away…disappointing!!
This is what it means when you put all your eggs in one basket and you don’t look after that basket well. Just like the country, the management of football in Zambia has been pathetic to say the least.
Let us diversify and invest in other sports or let football find its own resources like minor sports in the country. Football has but no honour but shame to the country despite tax payers dipping more in their pockets
It is a huge favour that we are just below number 100
#12 The Man.Spot on.We can get free exposure and greater choice for players if we hasten the Dual Nationality Bill.Never even though about that angle.Talk about thinking outside the box.Well done!
I like it when things go bad like this.dont cry zambians.I pray that we lose again to Kenya in a friendly so that we drop more to number 3000.I feel they have made a mistake.it was suppose to be 3000 not 101.Please people if you meet the person who does the rating please tell him/her that there is a mistake.let them check again.
#12 & #18 Your angle is not only misplaced but disingenuous as well. You don’t need the dual citizenship for football to improve in Zambia. How many Zambians and their families live in European countries where football is big? Plenty! How many of these young Zambians play football in these countries?
What you need first is the talent, let it be spotted locally in Zambia and the you can go play your football in any country on earth. Examples of Zambian that played successfully without dual citizenship are there for all to see
If you dont have a football talent, you just wont make it no matter how hard you try despite your dual citizenship
#20, spot on. Dual citizenship is ceratinly not the answer. These guys don’t know what they are talking about. I guess they are just in love with the terminology i.e. “dual citizenship.”
Some of you are saying we need talent, that is the work of FAZ, To improve football standards. Maybe if we had a local FAZ president on the ground in Zambia seeing at the grassroots, may be we can improve. Not this “president living in SA cra.p. This lowest ranking of Zambia happened when Kalu is leading FAZ, he must be made accountable.
Sorry I meant certainly and not ceratinly
It’s Simple, what major trophy has Zambia ever won? Do the mines still support football as the once did? Are soccer players of discretion and moral latitude as the were when we first got independence, a time were everyone no matter their back ground sort after education and kept away from vices. It’s all in shambles due to our procrastinating ways.
Glory to Jesus our Lord and savior first and foremost. cheers to Esther Phiri the greatest Athlete Zambia has ever produced, the only one to ever hold is it now ten world titles, let me repeat that ten world titles. Not common wealth or All Africa games but world titlles. It’s time we appreciated and thanked our true heroes, Esther, that one chess grand master and Samuel matete the only Zambian world champions that easily come to mind. As for the Chipolopolo they can’t even win cosafa.
These are just ratings and they dont mean much. Brazil was rated no 1 before the world cup 2010, what happened? These chaps should not demoralise our boys. with their ratings. There is nothing impossible in us winning the Africa cup even at our present rating. the same with the world cup. its all just about dedication and hard work. ratings are just numbers. just like zambia’s inflation. on paper its going down in reality it is the opposite
Oh! for reference above our chess grand master is Amon Simutowe.
Last time i checked Kalu was National Team coach who failed to advance the national team to any level b4 being “promoted” to FAZ President.
History never lies. I checked again, Simata Simata, was FAZ President @ one point and also failed miserably to advance soccer in Zed and yet some pipo want him back.
Come on pipo u can do better! Stop rewarding failures….Twapapata!!
This is embarrassing to say the least!!!
Let’s give credit to a jewel a gem from the east, miss Esther phiri. The greatest world Champion the world todate next to Husain bolt the world will ever know. From the streets of mutezma to going to school now that’s a story of success.
Zambia has never won the Africa cup even when it was the most well funded team once upon a time, lets put things into perspective here. Way before Kalu and his bizarre wrong and international faz presidential office Zambia national team sucked. Simataa also while president of faz chipolopolo sucked; it’s time my friends faz was run by a woman. Atleast the won’t choose on demerits of extortion. They might even hire mourinho cause real Madrid is going no where with him at the helm. That will make him a cheap coach in a minute hahahahaha.
I blame the Bembas because all the past national team has been full of the “chi” and “Mu” extra! Its only now we get Mweene and Hamoodis etc! I also think the diet is a big factor too, actually most important! FAZ need to address the diet and life style issue b4 we move forward, never mind the bemba joke! We need to be serious about football and teat it as as a commodity b4 we move forward! got loads of talent, especially from up north (benbaland)!
Your game has gone to the Dogs period!!!!!!!!!!!
I have given up on Zed football.
#32 Waba ito…. The Bembas have been responsible for a shining national team. Ok nakubelelako uluse. As for the unthinking Kalushaters who ask who was FAZ President in 1995 read Hey’s question which answers you #9. Kalusha was largely responsible for that FIFA ranking. Up to today Kalushaters have never told us what wrong Great Kalu has done. They just want the rest of us to share their jealousies. We wont.
#32 This is what I wrote you: #32 W.A.BA. ito…. The Bembas have been responsible for a shining national team. Ok nakubelelako uluse. Off -course its not surprising! I even doubt if Zambia will qualify to the next Africa Cup.
#25 Mwanawakwitu
I very much doubt the championships Esther is bagging.Check the mainstream media, you will never find any report on esther’s fights.Be it CNN,BBC,FOX,SABC,ESPN etc.I think those belts are tuntemba belts.
Soccer no. 2 . You are correct. If mulonga-nscz in the dark is scheming with simata, how can faz concentrate on soccer devlpmt. Indiscipline is the cause of downfal.
Ha Zambia has Tried!! Lol. At Number 101. I thought they were NOT going to be rated at all, with the 4 – 0 bashing we recieved from a poor Kuwait Team and that in-famous loss to Ghana in London still in our minds.
Kenya will surely beat us. Remeber boys that’s where Ester started her rise to fame. So do the right thing. I watched Collins Mbesuma play this week for Golden Arrows, he scored against Kaiser Chiefs a team he made a name for himself. Hope he is now re-discovering his former self. Mbesuma be disciplined.
#26 joe katapa you were going to win the award of dullest person on the blog but we have a tie with #36 Soccer Fan No2. #38 VJ Rigger you are right about Ester not showing up in any international media. The problem with Zambian football is Kalu holding own to power when people have lost confidence in him and do not want him. He select players NOT on merit but on “cuts” he gets from young players. The last person to lose confidence in a person is a wife. When that happens it means you are finished. Kalu’s wife left him years ago. I am surprised about bloggers still eating past glory. Holding on power in Africa one ends up badly like Mobutu, KK, Mugabe the list is endless.
If anyone is the dullest on this blog its u kci #41 Kalusha doesn’t select players. The tech committee does. Ur stup.I’d argument bringing failed politicians and succesful ones into a group that u want to place Great Kalu in shows just how incompetent ur brain is. What # 36 is saying is name the players instead of just throwing ur s hit around. The players themselves would have not kept quiet if any such thing happened. They have nothing to lose.
#42 if you think kalu does not select players and there are any successful politicians on my list then I understand why the MMD is winning this year. There are still more backward people in the country for it to start going forward.
KK- dictator and killer, ran down the economy to an extent were we did not have bread, sugar mealie meal unless we queue for days.
Mobutu. same as KK. Mugabe, I guess you love the prostitutes coming from Zimbabwe because of hardships there, that is why you might think Mugabe is successful.
The problem we have now is that the so called Galu went into FAZ for personal reasons. He is using FAZ as a stepping stone to get a position at CAF or FIFA. He does not care about foobal in Z. So our game will only improve after he leaves. I hope that will happen at the AGM
Soccer Fan No2 @ 35 – What has tribe got to do with Zambia’s performance on the football pitch? Has tribe got anything to do with ‘the great’ Kalu’s managerial incompetence? Can’t you ever think without being tribalistic? People like you can be taken out of the village, but to take the village out of you is utterly impossible.
#45 Ricky Bobby? wasendapo bwafufu. Read something in its entirety before you respond. At #35 Iam responding to #32 who is jocularly blaming Bembas for the lack of success of the national team in his blog. He obviously is a tribal cousin and Iam responding to him in similar style. So with you you just arrive on the scene and assume this is to do with tribe and start firing bullets-You could start a war over nothing!
If anyone is the dullest on this blog its u kci #43 unless you have nothing between your ears there’s no way you can compare KK with Mobutu. The latter left a country in turmoil, kaunda lost elections and peacefully left. U are able to blog from Zambia becos KK didn’t cling to power when he lost. Otherwise most of you would be refugees in other countries like the Zaireans and Zimbabweans. Think before you blurt out your nonsense!
He he the arguments are interesting.
I am going to do a ka respect a fo.o.l and move on
