Mother buries infant alive

A three day old baby is battling for its life in Namwala district Hospital, after her mother reportedly tried to bury her alive.

The incident happened over the weekend.

The woman, indentified as Hildah Mweemba of Malambo Village is said to have given birth on Sunday and thereafter buried her newly born baby alive, as a way of getting rid of her.

Both Chief Muchila and Namakube ward Councillor Japhet Ngalaba confirmed the incident to ZANIS.

Chief Muchila said the baby was found by cattle herders who quickly reported the matter to him.

He said the woman was trying to get rid of the baby she allegedly had with another man because she was about to reconcile with her matrimonial husband.

And District Medical Officer Davy KaileE described the baby’s condition as serious.

And Namwala Police are yet to charge the woman as they are still awaiting results of her mental well being.

  1. With alot of Orphanage centers aroung she could have just given the baby to them, this animarish type of thinking even animals are able to look after their new born well. Shame on her. Love for marriage costing babys life.

  2. Lino cashupa ku South, Is this why we are called ”Tonga bulls” kucitana even whn hve no idea about expected out come. She is normal just take her to Monze or Mazabuka prisons and put cement in her food, rabish, alimwi candicima maningi.

  3. She is a mad girl and deserve to be locked and should be kept away from men…….otherwise block her hole system

  4. What is better between the two evils: ABORTION or INFANTACIDE (killing of own child by a mother)? Some Catholics anywhere…….?????

It is in situations like these when one believes it would have been better and less painful for this child to have been aborted than end her short life on this cruel earth in this horrible way. I can only pray that she makes it, although the chances of this precious baby ending up with “severe brain damage” are quite high (lack Oxygen to the brain is very serious.) One can only imagine the difficult life ahead of her as a ” mentally disabled child” in Zambia.

    What a tragedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I do not even know what words to say. The way people are spending money trying to conceive and this fool wants to bury the child alive. The man should not even go back to her. Chi hule!
