New PF shadow cabinet, Panji Kaunda on the list

Share

Panji Kaunda

THE opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has continued to juggle its national leaders in yet another shadow cabinet, with the latest inclusion being former Chadiza member of Parliament Panji Kaunda who is earmarked for the post of Agriculture minister.

Their latest ‘innovation’ has also seen the inclusion of former Chipangali MP Lucas Phiri earmarked for the Home Affairs portfolio.

The new machinations have rocked the PF boat, with some members being dissatisfied by their president Michael Sata’s scheming, especially that he has given himself three portfolios – Presidency, Defence and Local Government.

In the envisaged PF government, which has no place for its pact partners United Party for National Development (UPND) members, party secretary-general Wynter Kabimba has lost his earlier appointment as vice-president to Guy Scott because of his (Kabimba’s) alleged involvement in the Lusaka City Council land scam.

Well-placed PF sources revealed in Lusaka on February 28 that Kabwata MP Given Lubinda, who was left out of the earlier shadow cabinet, has been earmarked for the position of Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services.

Although Mr Kabimba is still seen as the favourite to assume the position of vice-president, sources said the recent land scandal at LCC may see him give way to Dr Scott.

However, the PF sources indicated that Dr Scott’s undoing may be his involvement in what became known as the 1992 ‘Swinegate’ scandal when he served as Minister of Agriculture.

Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili has retained his shadow portfolio of Minister of Finance, given his consistent call for the re-introduction of windfall taxes in the mining sector.

Mwenya Musenge would be Mines Minister while Mr Lubinda has been given the shadow portfolio of Information and Broadcasting Services to dissuade him from challenging Mr Sata for the position of PF president should the party hold a convention.

Conspicuously missing from the list of shadow ministers is Inonge Wina, who has allegedly failed to deliver Western Province to the PF.

  1. Other than late Major NgwaWezi (MHSRIP) and Dr.Waza Kaunda, Panji has never been a sophisticated or credible politician not even businessman. His life has been that of failure, emotions, defaults, debate, bankrapsy, at that age still of dependance, defeats and frustrated life. His only common common denominator with Sata is their shared lives of pigamy, irrationality and anger.

  2. Ba Daily Mail, there is nothing wrong with what Mr. Sata is doing. You forget that your dogs in MMD are not allowing other people to contest positions except those picked by RB. What PF are doing is to spread thier area of inluence. To me this is a clever political move. Clean your kennels before criticising other people’s houses.

  3. I don’t just see what value he brings in pact. Since 1991, Panji has been a political vagabond moving to 5 parties. he has been in UNIP, UPND, FDD, Liberal Progressive party with Roger Chongwe, the back to UNIP for 1 year thereafter defection to UPND and now in PF. I don’t know what values moves him and which followers polistitute with him in all these moves?

  4. Just because Panji calls for the PACT indaba in Eastern Province, woolves in the name of The Daily Mail are out to attack him.
Hope one day it should be included in the laws of Zambia to charge a civil servant journalist with abuse of public resources for inciting Zambians against innocent opposition leaders.

If Panji is included in the pact cabinet it shows the PF is not a tribal based party as President Banda is dong in the MMD by appointing MMD leaders on tribal lines like Jere at Stae House, Ngoma in the civil service, Kennedy Zulu in Eatern Province.

The Daily Mail just want to incite Zambians against Sata, am one who can support President BANDA, but his injustices against innocent Zambians, stinks and creates revolt against MMD.

Shame on you Daily Mail journalists…

  5. This shadow cabinet surely who ever is dreaming of such schemes is hallucinating. This is another wedge by the MMD to frustrate and cause in fighting withing PF. I’m PF but I cannot accept Kambwili to be Finance Minister. This Kambwili has little qualification, his last full time employement was a DPO a Departmental Pesonnel Officer at Nchanga Mine. Apart from being a scrap metal dealer and supplier of maheu and buns to the Miners at Luanshya copper Mines, he does not posses what it takes to be Minister of Finance. he is a very Good & Brave MP and can be a good Deputy Minister of labour and social Security. So ba Daily Mail Check facts 1st.

    • @ Mpangula U seem to be living in the past! kambwili has done so much for himself! This kind of jealous and hatred will chock u and eat u inside out. By the way the man has got a Masters degree. I know this will be too much to swallow for people like u and by the way he is a Foreign Affairs Minister! WO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. ‘PF socialism clause backward’

TWO leading economic experts and a church organisation have dismissed as impractical provisions in the Patriotic Front (PF) constitution that the opposition party will eradicate capitalism as a means of achieving economic development.
Zambia Consumer Association (ZCA) executive secretary Muyunda Ililonga said in an interview on February 28 that PF’s plan to eradicate capitalism if it comes into power will be retrogressive to the economic gains Zambia has achieved so far.

  7. Mr Ililonga said the MMD Government has brought a lot of development because of capitalism, under which private capital plays an important role in business and industry.
Mr Ililonga was commenting on Article (4) of the PF’s constitution which states that the party will fight for the eradication of capitalism if it comes into power.
“In today’s policies, to think of old dogma of socialism is to go backwards. Development in modern times emphasises private capital. It is not true that capitalism is synonymous with poverty,” Mr Ililonga said.

  8. He said it is not feasible for the PF to think it can develop the country without capitalism.
“The MMD’s policy is a mixture of capitalism and socialism, which makes it easy to create jobs through private capital and distribute the gains. Many people will ask if the PF will move this country forward without capitalism,” he said.
Mr Ililonga said in the modern world, social development can be achieved if a country’s businesses and industry are controlled and run for profit by private owners.

  9. “Most countries in eastern Europe which still have socialist political systems have problems because they are not encouraging private ownership of business and industry,” he said.
Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) president Yusuf Dodia said the private sector will be very weak if the PF eradicates capitalism as espoused in its constitution.
Mr Dodia said in an interview that Zambia has a mixture of capitalism and socialism and the PF’s stance to eradicate capitalism is wrong.

  10. “If capitalism is eradicated, those who have innovations to run businesses and industries will not be encouraged. The danger of completely going socialist is that a lot of governments are not equipped to deal with the challenges that come with it,” he said.
Mr Dodia said socialism alone does not suit the aspirations of many Zambians.
“We must continue to maintain a balance by embracing both capitalism and socialism. One of the big challenges of having socialism only is that Government is forced to have enough resources to manage the ideology (socialism),” he said.

  11. This is just another volley of hot gas from the Daily Banda aimed at causing disharmony in the PF/UPND pact.

It would be poor judgement and a strategic political disaster for any political party to preoccupy themselves with “sharing” or “apportioning” cabinet position at this time of the campaign.

Can the Daily Banda name their authenticated source of information?

Ba Daily Banda please try something else

  12. Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) overseer Bishop Peter Ndhlovu said the private sector must be allowed to run business and industry.
He said the current environment where the MMD encourages private capital in business and industry is progressive.”Any changes will destroy everything. It is important for every political party which wants to govern this country to think of building on the economic gains which have come our way through the economic system being pursued by the MMD government. The PF wants to destroy the foundation which has brought development to Zambia. They are preparing to fail,” he said.

  13. What a load of r.u.b.b.i.s.h. This cabinet is its worst kind. No female representatives? SADC advocates for 30% female representatives. No lenje, tonga or kalubale. I think MMD is winning!

  14. What a load of r.u.b.b.i.s.h. This cabinet is its worst kind. No female representatives? SADC advocates for 30% female representatives. No lenje, tonga or kalubale. I think MMD is winning! UPND should pull out from this pact.

  15. #8 Mpangula Mputyu,

Don’t masquander as PF when you are not!! You can not attack the Party you support here, how?

A person supports a political party because of their manifesto, and inspiration from the leadership who leads it. Mpangula Mputyu how do you claim that you support PF yet you are someone causing it to lose support by your unfair publicity here?

You are one of those who are supporting MMD because of the many reasons tribalism as being propagated by President Banda, paid MMD image builder consultants, unfair and unjustified hatred for Bembas, as a beneficiary from ZAMTROP slush funds, abuse of public resources as being done by the public media (Daily Mail, Times of Zambia and ZNBC) e.t.c.

    You woolf poof MAMBALA!!!!!……………………………….

  16. Col. Panji has every right to join any political party of his choice. You keep on name calling but that is how human beings behave. We are blogging but those earth troden guys are busy investing their time and energy in PF, MMD, UPND etc and when their parties win they share positions. If you cant fight them then better join them.

  17. #15 Pungwa,

Bible Gospel Church in Africa overseer Bishop Peter Ndhlovu says that, because he only identify himself with President Banda on tribalism basis, which brought the RWANDA masacre.
This is the problem with Clergymen, they support tribalism as they did in RWANDA, it is scarely really because it makes someone who is really thinking straight to doubt even what they preach on the pulpit.

Even during Hitler’s time Clergymen supported the oppression of the innocent Jews in Germany.

The constitution and laws will protect our economical development and not MMD. Much as am not a suppoter of PF, Sata is on record as supporting Mwanawasa’s prosecution of Chiluba.

#15 Pungwa, please we are not children (even children have rights) to be misled by your ilogical reasons…

  18. Just forget about story please. I honestly do not expect President Sata or any of the senior PF officials to respond to that. At the moment MMD is confused and need constant assurances about the pact but we will not tell them. Remember “Don’t Kubeba”. No more bullcrap from the MMD, we’ve had and have stomached enough that the only thing left is to start vomiting all crap

  19. #21 Muleya,

Unlike Waza, Panji has never promoted the interest of UNIP. All our politicians have history of being associated with UNIP in one way or the other. Even Hichilema is associated with UNIP if you ask him.

The late son of the soil MAZOKA was also associated with UNIP.

  20. Comedy @ it’s best! Col Panji (a nephew to RB on mama Betty’s side) has decided to turn against his uncle because he’s apparently not receiving any kickbacks from State House? The Kaunda’s, your time is over and you do not have anything tangible to offer; both Panji and his weirdo brother Tilyenji, are political nonentities and can’t be taken serious in this day and age.

  21. Bloggers! How can you sink so low and accept what the Daily Mail is reporting as gospel truth? No wonder you will always be dribble because you cant distiguish between, propaganda, fiction, and substance! Learn to read between the line…

MMD has actually managed to break the alliance btn PF and UPND because they are clever. Kunda kept on hamering on the fact they will break… and just like advertising, because of their continued pounding of the pact, mistrust and greed crept in between the two leaders and their foot soldiers. It is a shame for mother ZAMBIA. Please learn to read between the line!!!

  22. Our government media both print and electronic are full of lies and no wonder the propaganda coming out from there is in a way building the image of Sata. May, I say we thank you all at ZNBC, Daily Mail, Times of Zambia etc for a good job welldone by indirectly proping up PF and Mr.Sata image by your outright lies. Your news is incomplete minus any disparaging remarks about Mr.Sata. Thank you and keep it up also at Lusakatimes.

  23. THIS YEAR BANEE ,,LETS US ALL DO OUR COUNTRY A BETTER SERVICE BY ENSURING THAT WE ALL VOTE IN RESPONSIBLE AND HONEST PEOPLE TO RUN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS COUNTRY CORRECTLY,,,,VOTE H.H 2011 STATE HOUSE FOR JOBS FOR OUR YOUTHS.

  25. # 9-13 & 15 Pungwa waba MMD, alalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala!
You are such a pathetic propagandist. Your ramblings are fictional and no one with an IQ above 50 would believe you! All Zambians now view Daily Mail, TOZ and ZNBC as MMD propagandists, they have lost all credibility among the masses. Why are they always reporting negative stories about the PF? Is it true that PF is evil through and through? Is it true that everything the MMD government does is marvellous for the welfare of Zambians? The MMD is rotten, the president increased his salary as action No.1, they sold ZAMTEL without approval of the people through their representatives, mobile hospitals through unnecessary loans, gave bonus to mines though no windfall tax on mines, etc!!!!

  27. The MMD is rotten, the president increased his salary as action No.1, they sold ZAMTEL without approval of the people through their representatives, mobile hospitals through unnecessary loans, bonus to the rich mine owners through refusal to collect windfall tax, a president who is 75% airborne, etc!! Why should you force all the above madness and more on Zambians. This year is a year of reckoning for all you joy riders!

  28. @6 Senior Citizen- You dog how can you call a decent man a vagabong. You are Gaddafis son replica who cares nothing about the general citizenery as long as his tummy is full.

  29. #33 his ladyship skanka pakunya wabe puli a man without a spine its you who is rotten with you dead and stinking pf and its carcas the PACT. you will remain eating bread crumbs you will gnash your teeth and cry till your tears dry. thats how far you can go with your shadow cabinet keep dreaming

  30. #34 de javu so you dont know that panji is a agabond. de javu tell me what panji has done after being retired from the army in ignominy. panji is making noise bcos of the pangs of hunger in his empty belly. he can no longer depend on his dad KK for handouts. he is making noise hoping the pact can defeat MMD. and pliz do not call senior citizen a dog bcos he represents the views of the majority. If you call us in the majority then what do we refer to you in the minority thats what you are minority thats is why we rule you and we shall continue ruling you beyond 2016. you have no character thats why you depend on a tired and sick man to anchor your sinking boat

  31. Pabwato SUNK.

No life jackets this time around

Paddles have gone down stream to the lower Zambezi.

    POWER IS NOW WITH UPND!

  32. It beats me what wrong the Zambia Daily Mail have committed by reporting this. You don’t have to believe anything you hear or read, it’s just a newspaper story like any other in the Post which the critics read everyday and see nothing wrong.
As for the desperation of PF to get into power, you cannot beat the PF at hallucinations and comedy, kekekeke kikikiki hehehehe.

  33. There is nothing wrong with a shadow cabinent, these are just scare tactics to present Sata has a very power thirst character! President Rupiah is being paraded on ZNBC, to have brought alot of development which development the poor cannot see! There is time for everything who ever thought that our “admired” and ”potential” President of United Africa would lose on hold power so fast! let our politicians learn that you cannot cheat the masses on developmental issues which are not there!

  34. We know what message can come from GRZ papers.Let them keep on dreaming but they should know that CHANGE IS COMING WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT.

  35. Hahahah the fact is beyond 2011 there will be leadership in position and all peace loviong Zambians must promote peace between them selves.

Politicians may let them selves down ,individual citixens will exicise their rights and majority will cary the day.

Good to see you SC after long time.

  36. # 16 SHAKA OZ .

Your comments on my comments posted in # 08 is misplaced. I’m PF and I have always said so. I will not change now. Do not judge me that I have shifted support. I have highlighted the best position for Kambwilli Chishimba because I want PF to put people that will be suitable for particular posts and to technicaly deliver. I haven’t dressed down Kambwili and neither have I said he is useless. When u support a particular party, u should also be able to analyze issues pertaining to appointments. I was squashing the f.o.o.l.ish daily mail story that PF has a shadow cabinet and they were busy apportioning imaginary posts. Especially the post of Minister of Finance. Let other pipo judge my response and compare what I said in # 8 and now and your response in # 16 above.

  37. #44, While you are condemning the Daily Mail for the story, by suggesting a suitable position for Kambwili you are in the same breath acknowledging that the Daily Mail has given you something positive to talk about. The inconsistency of PF cadres and their leadership is phenomenal and it explains why PF in its current form can never form government. You have to appreciate whatever things God has given you (however small, even peace which you say you cannot eat) before He gives you more. The Bembas say “Ushitasha mwana wa ndoshi”, and nowhere is that more applicable than in PF.

  38. Going it alone by any party will only guarantee RB’s come back. Let us swallow our pride and re-visit the pact. Painful as the compromises might be, it is the only way forward, period! Given another chance, we all know how much more arrogant RB and his puppets will become. This click is nauseating and must be sent packing at all costs.

  39. # 44 I have been clarifying the Daily Mail story how shallow their reporting is. Then recognising in the same vain the man the daily mail claim is earmarked for Finance Minister. I recognise that (Kambwili) can be fit for a deputy Minister in charge of labour. There is no inconsistency in this.

Hate the PF or love the PF. But they remain the biggest opposition party in Zambia. it’s president Mr. Chilufya Sata has defended the rights of Zambians (where majority educated Zambians) shy away from voicing out MMD mischief. However, we need to put in place people that suitable and can steer the economic path to grow our macro and micro economic state of this great republic. It should not be each jim and jack to be apportioned a post on account having talked more, but on capacity to…

  41. Great people to run the government. Lubinda should be Foreign Affairs minister. Kabimba Information & Broadcasting. Finance can be outsourced back to Mangande.

  42. This is Gvt cheap propaganda. No matter what they say or do against SATA . My vote is for PF and SATA period

  43. #48 Mpangula Mputyu
Your PF will be the fourth largest opposition party after the elections.
    1.UPND
    2.NAREP
    3.ADD
    4.PF/New Generation

  44. All these kaponyas are interested in are positions.Thats why UPND left them, they have no developmental programme to talk about. If they are not hurling insults, they are sharing plots or posts.Keep on dreaming you low lives.

  45. Panji smells destitution, poverty etc.he failed to make hay while it shined in the 1st republic. He is now a ‘John solye ubwali’.I am not even suprised that he is being used by the kaponyas, who will dump him very soon.

  46. # 24 Brian.
I agree with you my brother. MMD master dribblers are at work and I am afraid Sata and HH have been out-smarted. Sadly, they are still sleeping or they are not that clever and so are most LT bloggers. UTULO!!

  47. ba pungwa, you are bizi saying what others say, what about your views, what do you say? ninshi imwe muli ichikopo tamwakwata ifya kulanda kano ifya banenu? tell us your views

  48. We will continue to say “Don’t Kubeba”. MMD – Continue with your day dreams and hallucinations while we move on at a thunderous speed to reclaim what rightfully belongs to us.

  49. What makes someone to be under 5 is not the age but the mental abilities .HH is more mature than SATA. SATA’s brain is like that of dinosaur. All that comes in his head is tribalism .What a shame .He has called all his opponents as tribalists when he himself is more tribal than any other person that has ever lived. When he addresses rallies it is in Bemba. Don’t make other tribes hate the bembas coz there some Bemba who are above this mediocricy .is this a material that one can be pround of selling

  50. On “THE opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has continued to juggle its national leaders in yet another shadow cabinet, with the latest inclusion being former Chadiza member of Parliament Panji Kaunda who is earmarked for the post of Agriculture minister” it is interesting that PF, which had committed itself from getting UPND members in a PACT, has now started recruiting UPND members — a sign that PF has pulled out of the PACT without telling the nation.

As for “Their latest ‘innovation’ has also seen the inclusion of former Chipangali MP Lucas Phiri earmarked for the Home Affairs portfolio” I am glad that the former UNIP? MP whose name has been cited above is now a PF supporters.

Whatever the case, this juxtapositioning will not rid PF of being a Bemba-Kaponya party…

  51. On “In the envisaged PF government, which has no place for its pact partners United Party for National Development (UPND) members, party secretary-general Wynter Kabimba has lost his earlier appointment as vice-president to Guy Scott because of his (Kabimba’s) alleged involvement in the Lusaka City Council land scam” it will be interesting to see the fight that may ensue between PF nonentity Wynter KABIMBA and whiteman Honourable Guy Scott, MP, over the envisioned Vice-Presidency of Zambia should PF’s Sata MC be mistakenly voted for as Zambian President in the 2011 elections — now that the PF-UPND PACT has crumbled and HH is not in line for the Vice Presidency that Wynter KABIMBA is clearly craving for. Will Sata MC dribble KABIMBA the way Mr Chiluba FJT did it to him?
    _
    Matt…

  52. Mwaona lomba. Banthu enzekuti, yayi, tufuna bana ba tontho! Kansi yayi, ocinja tyala mipando yakale yo thyoka mendo!
You see now. People say, ‘We want young people!’ But all we are seing now is the same old chairs with broken legs recycled! Panji is a failed farmer and businessman, inspite of all the advantages he had when his big man was President. His father side stepped him for Wezi who was sharper. Waza is not political.

  53. #67 Gearbox Viten Engine Phiri (no jokes, these are real names in Eastern),

Your Tribalism language of President Banda betrays you. Since when did Panji fail as a farmer or businessman?

You MMD WOOLF, all along you have never condemned Panji.

One of the Zambian politicians who has failed as a businessman is President, he failed to run Namboard, he bankrupted a Bank e.t.c, all in all these he appointed his tribesmen in all position at work at least. He always attack opposition leaders who borrow money from the banks as if himself has never borrowed from the banks before.

  54. WHY SHOULD THE SHADOW CABINET INCLUDE UPND MEMBERS WHO ARE PLAYING HARD TO GET KWATI MUKASHANA WAKUMUSHI BALEFWAYA UKUPA…….FORGET ABOUT UPND…THEY ARE HEADED FOR THE GARBAGE HEAP THIS YEAR…WHETHER THEY OPT TO SUPPORT MMD OR THEY STRUGGLE TO STAND ON THEIR OWN…….NI BYE BYE POLIO….EYES FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. PEOPLE DON’T BE SCARED THAT WHEN PF COMES INTO POWER WILL FREEZE YOUR ASSETS THEY JUST WANT TO CLEAN UP THE MESS AND HAND OVER THE CLEAN SYSTEM TO THE YOUNG GENERATION FOR EASY AND SMOOTH RUNING OF THE GOVERMENT, ALL WILL BE WELL FOR MOTHER ZAMBIA, ITS’S NOT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BAD IT IS THE CURRENT SYSTEM.:-?

  56. Thanks , I have recently been searching for information about this subject for a while and yours is the greatest I’ve discovered till now. But, what in regards to the conclusion? Are you positive in regards to the supply?|What i don’t understood is in reality how you are not actually much more neatly-preferred than you might be now. You are so intelligent.

  57. Just want to say your article is as astonishing. The clarity to your submit is simply great and that i could suppose you’re a professional on this subject. Well along with your permission let me to grasp your feed to stay updated with coming near near post. Thank you one million and please carry on the rewarding work.
