QFM reports that United Party for National Development (UPND) Leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Wynter Kabimba has a petty mind and that he will not respond to his challenge to tell the people of Zambia whether or not the UPND has agreed to the proposal made by Professor Clive Chirwa on the PF/UPND pact.
Mr. Hichilema said he would not engage himself in an argument with Mr. Kabimba as the people of Zambia will not know who is telling the truth between the two.
He wondered why Mr. Kabimba had become more interested in calling for the meeting between the PF and UPND when they never responded to the call earlier made by the UPND to quickly convene a meeting.
Mr. Hichilema said it was pointless for the two political parties to challenge each other when there are more important issues they can address.
He said he will not involve himself in any argument with Mr. Kabimba adding that the PF secretary general can continue with his arguments because he enjoyed doing so.

He said Mr Hichilema had a dubious character that he used to ascend to positions of authority and this was what the PF never wanted to happen in the pact.

He said PF could not lean on UPND because it was very popular while UPND was relying on telling the people of Zambia lies to gain popularity.
Mr Sata said he was disappointed that the two opposition parties were now attacking one another in the media instead of working together because of the behaviour of UPND and its leader.
Mr Sata said UPND should be above board instead of provoking other political players and added that the PF was aware that UPND was already working with the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD).
Meanwhile, Mr Kabimba has accused Mr Hichilema of employing tricks against Mr Sata in the loose alliance to win adoption for candidacy in the 2011 presidential elections.
Mr Kabimba said his party would not allow Mr Hichilema to use the 1996 formula that was used at the time to make him the automatic choice to be head of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Featuring on a live MOBI television programme Open Forum which also had UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma, Mr Kabimba said Mr Hichilema lost the 2006 elections terribly to the MMD and PF because of using such tricks.
Mr Kabimba accused UPND of hiding under the cover of putting together the social economic programme before electing the pact leader because it wanted Mr Hichilema to employ a formular that would make him the preferred candidate so that Mr Sata was knocked out.
He argued that the social and economic programme being agitated by UPND could not be mooted without a leader and UDA only announced Mr Hichilema as its candidate and the issue of the social and economic programme never arose.
Mr Kabimba said the pact leaders must be bold and announce the failure of the pact because of the deep divisions that had engulfed the pact lately.
He said the PF did not go into the alliance formed on June 4, 2009 after realising that it would falter in the 2011 elections but because of the need to form a majority Government.
He said there was need to bring on board all the stakeholders, including those aligned to UPND, but the party had the capacity to win the elections as a single entity.
But Mr Kakoma differed with Mr Kabimba, saying the reason for the formation of the pact was that the opposition was too weak to beat the MMD.
“This explains why we are having problems. Now I am being told that the reason why we had came together was to form a majority Government. For us we did not think that the most important thing was leadership.
“What we thought was that we were forming the pact because people wanted us to address poverty by putting up a social and economic programme,” Mr Kakoma said.
Mr Kakoma said the UPND was not prepared to rush into the sharing of positions but that fundamentals must be addressed. He said UPND was not tribal but national.
But Mr Kabimba maintained that the central cause of the divisions in the pact was the absence of a leader and not the lack of social and economic programmes.

SINCERITY is next to holiness. Could this be true in the conduct of some political parties in Zambia today?
From the manner they treat their colleagues and the way they handle important national issues, can some parties be trusted? Being open and transparent in all what one does could earn self credibility before thinking of external perceptions.
The spirit of confidentiality is paramount in any leadership set up, that of the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) inclusive.
Sata, what about all the Bembas in your party? You are a worse tribalist!! All parties world over have strongholds from where a candidate comes from, if you follow the US elections, its the same there, you are also popular in Bemba land, to you anything thats not Bemba is tribal, what a shallow mind.
Who still thinks the pact between the PF and UPND still exists? They have demolished the pact themselves. It’s not the ruling MMD or anyone but the mistrust between the two opposition parties and the lack of respect for each other.
The conduct of the opposition PF towards the partner UPND and in the recent past against the MMD and President Ruphiah Banda is questionable.
One wonders whether anything can be told to this party in confidence without them jumping to the Press or cadres for publicity.

This is a sad turn of events. The two parties must first decide on who gets what position since this seems to be the most contentious issue that has brought about distrust. Inspite of all this misunderstanding, the two parties must meet and come to an agreement. The electorate will be very upset if the PACT gets dissolved over such an issue. As a christian I will pray to GOD for the best outcome. I look forward to an intact PACT.

These guys are really playing games at the expense of time. These problems could not have been there if the pact had a leader from the word go. A pact is a headless organisation without direction. In any function organisation or alliance, you need to have a leader who will unify & provide unified direction. HH may be very good at economical & developmental theory, & Sata may be good in implementation of the same, hence they can merge great qualities & foster development. Sort out the leadership issue, you can’t continue with a headless pact, or call it quits, period!
It was clear from the beginning that PF and UPND were just playing games trying to satisfy their little egos. HH was warned against sleeping with the snake (wawona manje yangambika stogger). Sata thought HH would help him get to State House. As for Kabimba the guy has no class, what company has Kabimba ever worked except the council? How can PF say UPND is only popular in Southern province and yet all the bye-elections that UPND has won are outside Southern Province. In any case even if Sata was to lead the Pact he was not going to beat RB because Sata has no support in swing provinces i.e. N/western, Western, Central, Southern and Eastern. These reports are questionable, i contacted someone at QFM this morning who is very close to me, i I’ ll not mention his name here for his safety. I can confirm to say the reports about HH and Sata are not true, HH never sank so low to criticize Kabimba and neither did Sata say those words about HH. How can UPND be tribal party now just because we have refused to accept Mr Sata as a pact President, UPND have MPS from Southern, Western and Northwestern in these provinces PF have none.If UPND is a small party has come it has grabbed 3 seats from MMD. I have tried to be as objective and honest as i can on this issue of the pact as possible, if HH and UPND think PF is not essential in their political success, well my advise is pack your bags and go your way…
do not demonise SATA , KABIMBA OR PF and the opposite is true in respect to PF feelings of the pact. by so doing you will prevent alot of cardiac arrest ( heart attacks) from many zambians, am tired of sending aspirin 75mg,atenolol,moduretic and captopril to protect the hearts of these ailing politicians.

At least UPND had a convertion to elect HH and every province sent delegates to elect a leader, unlike pf Sata who has never been elected. There were 868 delegates at that convertion and only 113 of them were from Southern province. HH got 532 of all the votes cast, therefore even if HH was to give out the 113 votes and thats if at all they voted for him, the other candidate would still trail behind him. Sata talks like that because for him he does not know what a convertion means in his party thats why he has failed to hold one since pf came into existance. These tribal remarks Sata keeps mentioning is the main cause of his failure to win presidential elections, because these tribes concerned have got connections and get offended.
If there is no pact then PF and UPND should forget about ruling Zambia. You have missed the opportunity MMD continues then.

This old man is pushing us too far with his tribal politics. When Sata talks of tribalism, every tribe which is not Bemba feels attacked by the words. The youths have intermarried so much, for them tribe does not matter the ways it matters for Sata. HH’s wife is from central province and you wonder how these who are close to his wife would feel. Livingstone and Mazabuka towns have population half Tonga and the other half are Lozis and other tribes, and for Sata to say Southerners are tribalists it does not only injure them only but all the connections these people have outside southern province. This really the main reason why Sat cannot win elections in Zambia because many fear his mouth which is so divisive. Mr Sata learn to think outside the box, NOT ATTACKS ON INNOCENT PEOPLE.
True that PF can get it alone but with challenges and the best should have been working together with UPND. Zambians woke up, these old politicians like Sata always think of tribalism. They have talked of tribalism since Zambia was born, preached tribalism to the young generation with foolish ones being indocrinated. Without Kaunda who saw it coming, Zambia would have been a divided nation. For a long time Tongas and Lozis have been labelled tribal. I tend to differ with this. The only thing i see is that these two people are proud of who they are. They have just refused to submit to any nonsense. The eastern and northern alliance (Chimbuya) wants to look at the Tongas and Lozis as though there were lesser people. I hail from the east and dont like this nonsense. Let us deliberately allow these two groups to also rule the country. You cant rush to having a leader for the pact before you harmonise your priorities as doing so will give undue power/influence to the one chosen as PACT leader. You need to be contributing realising that if you disadvantage the losers, you might be disadvantaging yourself in case you lose. We have seen how Sata used to support useless laws which turned out to haunt him as he languished in the opposition wilderness. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is obvious that PF is trying to be the clever one by always looking for traps. They have no national agenda other than to preach tribalism, insults and all sorts of vices. #80 There was no need of harmonising manifestos because when HH became the UPND president, he found an agreement which was already done by Mazoka and other parties UNIP and FDD. It was therefore difficult for HH and his team to start re-negotiating other terms beyond what he found. Wynter should just apologise to UPND for publicising information which was classified by Chirwa as confidential. By publicising that information he breach the trust between both parties, as that document was suppose to studied by parties concerned and even be discussed and amended by concerned parties to form a common ground. Wynter is really a disappointment in the pact, he has mentality of a kaponya, no wonder pf is not going anywhere with Wynter as a trustee.
