Share

GOVERNMENT has released a total of over K2.2 trillion for infrastructure development in all 17 constituencies of Western Province.

The biggest projects are in the road, education and health sectors.

According to a summary of Government infrastructure development programme obtained by the Zambia Daily Mail in Mongu at the weekend, Kalabo Central Constituency has received the biggest allocation of K1.3 trillion, which is the total amount Government committed to the construction of the Mongu-Kalabo road.

President Banda last October commissioned the construction of the road, whose trial section has already been done.

Senanga Central Constituency has received K715 billion, out of which K705 billion is for the construction of the Senanga-Sesheke road.

Third on the queue is Mwandi Central Constituency, which has received K37.5 billion, out of which K33 billion is for the full construction of Mwandi Boarding High School.

Lukulu East Constituency has received K33.4 billion, out of which K26.6 billion is for the construction of Lukulu Boarding High School.

Sinjembela has received K33.3 billion, from which K28.6 billion will go towards the construction of Nangweshi Boarding High School, while Nalikwanda Constituency has received K29.9 billion, out of which K25.7 billion is for the construction of Nakanyaa Boarding High School.

A total of K29.1 has been allocated to Mangango Constituency, from which K27.6 billion is for the construction of Mayukwayukwa Boarding High School.

Other allocations are Liuwa Constituency (K11.8 billion), Mulobezi (K9.7 billion) and Nalolo (K8.3 billion).

The rest are Mongu Central (K6.9 billion), Sikongo (K4.8 billion), Kaoma Central (K4.6 billion) and Lukulu West (K1.4 billion).

The constituencies that have received least allocations are Luampa (K950 million), Sesheke Central (K934.2 million) and Luena (K540 million).

  1. Electoral buying in full gear.

Do all other provinces need to threaten secession in order to get their fair share of the national cake?

  2. And why is Luena getting just 540 Million. Is it becuase they voted for Milupi? MMD, stop this confusion and come up with a plan of how to develop the nation. And by the way, does it cost 28 Billion to build a school these days. Thats a cool USD 7 MILLION. Amm.. i smell some inbuild overbudgeting deliberately here. Daylight stealing at its best.

  3. so what it takes for our country to develop and be given its necessary attention is an attempt to separate from the rest of Zambia.
in as much this is good for Western province, this is cheap politics and not necessary and worse detrimental to our Nation as a whole.
2.2 tril will just be swallowed up by the inflation and corrruption !!

  4. build schools only? where do the school leavers go after grade twelve? To inaccessible universitities that are run on wako ni wako? Those who qualify legitmately are denied entry to universities and only those with fake grade twelves and leakage papers enter universitities. Western province needs its university also. Other wise you are wasting your time because you cannot buy the rights of citizens with scant development initated out of panic

  5. And other provinces?? so they should also start rioting and threaten to seccede ??zambians are very funny,i remember the days at CBU we had to riot to receive the attention of the govt.

  6. K1.3 Trillion is a waste of resources to build a road between Mongu and Kalabo. This road will not stand the mighty Zambezi river, it will be washed away, which means 1.3 trillion is literally just go into water. I know of an alternative route of building a road from Mongu to Kalabo via Lukulu which is almost 100 times cheaper but will take slightly longer in terms of travel than the current route. That K1.3 trillion can be used to build other needed infrastructure such as more hospitals and possibly even a University. It is good that high school are being built but what about higher education? I am sure some big wigs want to benefit from this non starter project, another example of barotse corruption at its very best. AG’s office must act on this corruption not just issuing statements.

  7. Whoever published this information must also provide details of what other provinces have been allocated, so that comparisions can be made. While they are at it, details of how much has been spent on the Mongu – Kalabo Road from inception or since it was first announced about plans to build a road between the two districts, must also be published. I know the figure will already be in trillions of Kwacha, that is minus the K1.3 trillion that has again been allocated to this same project. I know once the amount is totalled, it will clearly show that this project of building a direct road between Mongu and Kalabo is a non starter or rather a cash cow for those close to the project. What are the economic benefits of this direct route I wonder?
