Speculations about impending UNZA closure false-Siliya

Share

MMD Spekesperson and Education Minister Dora Siliya

Speculations that the University of Zambia will close for six months this year are false and baseless.

According to the Ministry of Education, there are no intentions to close UNZA for the alleged period by some media houses and individuals.

Education Minister Dora Siliya has told a media briefing in Lusaka that her office or UNZA administration has not issued any instructions to close the highest learning institution in the country.

Ms Siliya has advised students and people to ignore the unsubstantiated rumours going round the country.

The Minister also revealed that she has received a letter from Munali Member of Parliament Mumbi Phiri who has raised concerns about reports going round that UNZA will close.

But Ms Siliya says UNZA will not close as there are no reasons to warrant the purported closure.

There have been some speculations that UNZA will this year close for six months due to the tripartite elections to be held.

Some people had complained that the intended closure would disenfranchise students, many of them who would be on recess.

  1. How close is Dora Siliya to the students at UNZA and their well-being bearing in mind that she does not attend graduation ceremonies? The premature closure of the institution being talked about is possible under the supervision of William Banda.

  2. is it just me or maybe these media houses do not have recent photos of this woman, i see the same pic of her in the post, LT and the rest of these online news agencies.

  3. THERE IS SERIOUS DONT KUBEBA AT UNZA AND THE STUDENTS ARE IN MONEY THIS YEAR.
    UNZA,CBU ARE OUR STRONGHOLDS.
BE PART OF THE BALLOT REVOLUTION
    SATA AND PABWATO COME 2011.

  4. I know UNZA very well and the institution just closes whether the Minister, President or indeed any other individual refutes reports. UNZA is a very sensitive institution in our politics. President RB is very aware that any Egypt-style uprising after the elections will start from UNZA. Therefore close the institution.

  5. Those who undermine Dora’s education levels by calling her former news reader should bear in mind that she has a BA in Mass communication and MA in Development Economics. Do not just condem without facts. Try to find out. Personally, I shared some courses with her during my first degree at UNZA.

  6. We love the moto from UNZA students…”HH our Obama” “Sata there Mccain” good show students…but my advise ..careful because the MMD knows that the UNZA polling station is UPND and they can close it for them not to loose big time at campus. Please play it cool good show at the card renewal ..Go forward our motto in UPND. Viva the youth Viva young HH abash old recycled politicians like Sata an old,old colonial police constable from the cha cha cha type of politics.

  7. When will university of Zambia students and staff keep away from politics and concentrate on their studies? UNZASU is a student union for student affairs and that should be their concern. When I was at UNZA I went through all the years of my studies without a single unofficial closure. We gave the UNZASU executive the mandate to speak for us and we got almost everything we wanted. There were a few chaps who when behind in their assignments and continuous assessments agitated for disruption but we rejected them.

  8. We shall take your word amake nilabeko Dora wabaume. Good to here that now you have an Masters in development for men. Keep it up and we hope to be in front of you not behind one day….

  9. The students union is not the way it was in our day are they under MMD? Change of leadership is needed, Dora has no right to talk about UNZA after she sold Zamtel to a war torn country!

  10. #7you have no shame admitting in public that you are going to buy votes. if it was mmd you have already been crying foul. the dont kubeba may come back to haunt. what the students decide to teach you a lesson and its actually ‘dont kubeba ba pf’. tulo?. you let the cat out of the bag too early. i cant believe how naive you people are. its not like you will follow people into the booths so they keep their dont kubeba promise.

  11. 11
Sam Mbewe i also shared some courses with her in 89/90 academic year, Natural Sciences. I think she was in Agric stream if my memory saves me right

  12. Sad lives piss off, who cares whether you shared a room, class, toothbrush, whatever with her?. If you got nothing to contribute just read others’ comments or jump on your bikes. They’re even falling over each other, competing to see who shared more with this most despicable and vilest woman than others.

  13. ichi chi mayo chali lowa, shared some courses, just say what you are really saying…we know UNZA moma’s. all i can say about aba ba mama baluse is that bali lowa!!!

  14. this is the problem with Zambian politicians, trying to spread propaganda and keep masses is calm. Why should that always be the priority? If ba mama ba dora you are doing your jobs right, you wouldn’t be misplacing priorities. Songs of closing will always be there, what we need is good policies, if UNZA students see good policies, if ordinary Zambians and students see hardwork, they will not even speculate…but if all you do is think of calming the masses and planning evils, what will you get? For me I can never believe ba mama ba dora because I know firsthand she is a bootlicker

  15. Madam Minister you need to look into the bursaries committee, they are very arrogant, selfish and corrupt there. The lady in charge is the worst, she is not even personable and carries on like an angry military general yet we don’t see any progress or benefits. just lies and lies and hearing of how relatives are enjoying bursaries even around the world. When we make inquiries we ripped a new one and told to shut up, behave and appreciate. Bushe arent we zambians, arent we tax payers?? ba Chirwa there you will go back home with your tail between your legs, should we organise protests to state house before we can be given an audience??

  16. @bursaries chirwa
it is not her fault, she has found the system there very bad. I have dealt with the like of Njobvu before and those people’s priorities are misplaced. They don’t even exhibit any politeness, balibafye arrogant to say the least. Come to think of it miss chirwa is also the same. Anyway for me I am always available to march to state house because the bursaries they are arrogant, its like an embassy there
