President Banda has reiterated his condemnation of political violence in the country.
Mr. Banda said violence should be strongly condemned regardless of whether it was perpetuated by the MMD or the opposition political parties.
The President has since directed the police to ensure that all those involved in the act are brought to book and punished.
He was commenting on the clashes between suspected MMD and PF cadres in Lusaka yesterday.
President Banda said it was ridiculous that the two political parties were involved in acts of violence without any justifiable reasons.
He stressed that it was immaterial for citizens to start debating on who was wrong or was not wrong as violence affected everybody.
“I don’t care who did it, or didn’t do it, it was all wrong .If anyone is found guilty will be locked up,” he said.

Politics aside violence is bad. We must not take the peace we have for granted. Regardless of which party orchestrated what violence is wrong and I expect the Police to pounce on all those that caused the violence.
We don’t want our nation to go up in flames. We may have our differences but let us learn to respect each other. Some people have small children who are very impressionable. Is that the kind of example we want to send to them. We have had 20 years of democracy now. Sometimes it is good to agree to disagree and not erupt in a tirade of violence.
God sees all and he’ll protect his children. Let us learn to be grown up and civilized please.
Don’t this guy’s close allies tell him about William Banda? He’s the thug behind all this violence. Fire him & we shall believe what RB is saying.
The solution to these problems is to REMOVE indeed BAN political activities from markets. All political parties should have their own offices where the cadres can meet and do politics. This is not UNIP days where every market, every compound every union had a UNIP chairman. The problem is that people like William Banda and Sata were hewn from the same rock of UNIP hooligans and so are their followers. It is time these shenanigans stopped.
Mr President – it is now evident you are unable or unwilling to deal with one William Banda who is the architect of violence, illegal land allocation, threats and is now controlling Lusaka City Bus Terminus illegally. What hold has William Banda on you, does he know any secrets or do you honestly think William can win Lusaka province for you? Mr President – you have a university education (which is supposed to mean something), how can a semi-illiterate like William Banda control you?
Whats ridiculous is for RB to be President
A group of Lusaka MMD cadres this afternoon marched and told journalists that they will abduct Mr Sata. They said if Mr Sata does not restrain PF cadres from violence, they will take matters in their own hands and abduct him. The cadres were led by their group leader Mr Mtonga who read out the statement. He said ” If things get to the worst, we ourselves will capture Mr Sata. We will besiege the Farmers’ House (Sata’s office).”
DULLNESS PA ZED….THESE MMD WILL SET ZAMBIA ABLAZE….IF THEY AR TOLERATED THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY CAN NOT BE DEALT WITH.
Sounds presidential, sharp contrast to Sata’s corrupt stance. ‘Get bribes from MMD as long as you dont give them your vote’.
Really! I wouldnt be surprised if Sata told his cadres, ‘Be as violent as you can, as long as you dont get caught’. The chap is corrupt at the core, you can not wash him from the outside…..
what is absurd and heartily ridiculous is the reaction of the Commander in Thief! Are you waiting for war before you know that William and his monkey thugs at Intercity must be disciplined this is your lusaka province controller of violence
mr president for all zambians, what are you saying to your thugs plann to abduct an opposition leader will you pretend you havent head
Breaking news:MMD CADRES TO ABDUCT SATA
A group of Lusaka MMD cadres this afternoon marched and told journalists that they will abduct Mr Sata. Mr President, you have failed. Only recently MMD thugs led by William Banda went to Garden with machetes and pangas to maim PF members and disrupt their provincial conference. Your response to that violence was surprisingly lukewarm, it was business as usual. A few days ago, Lusaka MMD thugs announced that they had taken over markets and bus stations in Lusaka. You remained mum. You have failed to discipline William Banda who is the architect of the violence we have witnessed since Mufumbwe. You are tolerating anarchy. I am not surprised that people are reacting to the unsolicitated provocation by whatever means at their disposal. Bambo kambani chabe kuti mwalepela kusunga dziko mupase ena anthu apitilize.
Rupiah and William are the one instructing MMD cadres to take over markets and bus stations and this is the cause of of violence. The other week William and Rupiah sent the cadres to disrupt the PF’s conference,so what is he telling us. Read Zed Leaks and hear what his cadres are saying. That’s why Rupiah insisted that William Banda be the provincial chairman dispite others objecting because of William’s violence. When war breaks out William will go to Malawi and Rupiah to Zimbabwe but poor Zambians will have nowhere to go. RUPIAH MUST STOP HIS NONSENSE IN THE BUS STOPS AND MARKETS AND TAKE HIS MMD REGALIA TO MMD CAMPAIGN MEETINGS IF VIOLENCE IS TO STOP.
It was ridiculous for the lateKateka to leave us with this problem kind of a person as president.
“Nechakumulya chalibula”
i think what he said is reasonable let the police do there thing and let the president know what there findings are… then judge him on what he does after that… what if ZP says it was so ans so and William Banda was not involved ??? then what should he have already called him names seriously guys at this rate i would say Zambians dont want to learn from past mistakes…
Tomorrow you will be the same people saying the president has too much power he can say and do whatever he wishes???
Actions not words! We are tired of this SONG!
It is because this type attitude that some of you display here that baka pokola dont do there work the way they are meant to…
Its because you actually give them the impression that they shouldnt..
The answer to a successful election is not violence but v.i.a.g.r.a

There is surely something seriously wrong with Banda, how could he claim, and quote: “political parties were involved in acts of violence without any justifiable reasons”. There can never ever be any justifiable reasons to resort to fighting. Only primitive savages like his rabid dogs led by that Malawian lumpen William Banda and Sata like fighting.
Rupia said to up set with Kunda.
Meanwhile, sources have further explained that MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya has issued instructions to all ruling party supporters, including some named Civil society organizations to stop attacking the UPND on the constitution bill failure.
The MMD is said to be making frantic efforts to ensure that the UPND agrees to work with them in the coming elections.

Rhetoric alone without any tangible action will not reverse the deteriorating situation. Politics aside, rupiah has let down the Zambian people by failing to take corrective steps at stopping violent acts by his cadres.
The biggest culprit lives next to rupiah’s house and they share the same last name.
Merely condemning is not enough iwe kabalwe, do something
LET THEM FIGHT WHILE HH IS BUSY CAMPAINING: VIVA HH!
Those who watched ZNBC TV News at 22.00hrs, did you see how RB was besieged and mobbed by excited Livingstone residents? The whole Mosi o tunya road was a mass of people from all walks of life chanting RB!…RB!…RB! and each wanting to greet him by hand. Being THE President for ALL Zambians, RB abandoned his motorcade and started walking and greeting the people affectioantely as only RB knows. If you consider all the negatives spewed by the Post about RB, this was just unbelievable, it was spontaneous, a massive show of absolute affection fby citizens for their President, I have never seen anything like it!
If PF cadres watched the news they must be green with envy, and someone will be turning and tossing in their bed tonight.
This is stu.pid, hasn’t he heard whats happening at public markets? It would have been better if he never opened his mouth, he’s fooling us again. I hate this guy.
#23, I hope that makes them start accepting reality. The POST have sunk so low to electronicaly enlarge the crowds at Sata’s rallies, it really makes them look so stuupid. They can not fooool anyone…..
#3 msana, with what I saw on TV this evening, you are a drop in the pacific ocean.
No one will miss your vote so don’t even waste it by turning up at the polling station.
Sorry I meant #24, our very own msana wanzili, our next recruit to progressive and development politics.
I think the President should stop speaking in “TONGUES” on this issue. Insted tell it like it is!
If we hope to stop this trend, RB can not on one hand condemn violence and on the other keep company of characters known to be behind some of this violence. William Banda will set this country on fire before RB realises what people have been saying about this goon.
Just a week or so ago, when it was clear MMD thugs are the ones who caused violence at a PF gathering, the President was still wish wash in calling out MMD Cadres (a.k.a WILLIAM BANDA) to stop it. Instead he went in circles trying to make it look like it was both sides’ who were at fault. WHY? You can not expect the police to act decisively when they know they gonna get a call from State House if they go after MMD thugs!
Yes, democracy is all about presenting one’s manifesto, program of action and not resorting to butchering each other on differences of opinions.
Let us keep talking, debating and agree to disagree on national issues, development and growth, good governance, education, health, clean water, employment, youth development programs and alike, and not resort to muscle flexing and vandalising properties.
Give RB another 5years. All the cadres will have 5years to rule the markets. What a country kekekek hahahahahahahhhh
Good evening
I have met a number of people who have fled their countries because of political violence and bloodshed to come and live here in Germany. Most of them are really traumatised and have serious problems to re-integrate into a peaceful society. Whenever I see that, I am always grateful to God for the peace and stability that we Zambians have enjoyed for such a very long time. I also pray that this will continue for ages to come, if not forever.
We may cast our votes for different parties but let us all cast one vote against political violence.
“Power and violence are opposites; where the one rules absolutely, the other is absent.”
Hannah Arendt
we really have a problem . we shouldnt care about parties ,we should care about a leader .party is just a name .Aleader is heart
Ma politics ya yamba kubvutisa manje mu Zambia. Everyone is pointing fingers at each other forgetting that the remaining four fingers in that hand are pointing to themselves. heeehehhhehhh.
Wow!! back on L.T at last!! I was on sabbatical leave from this site.. where are the likes of Ba Chewe, Sarah Jones, Supergal, baby C,Ba Moze ,matiworld..and mad dog,Monalisa, shaka wa senzokona, .. and the people who made maestro hlehhleh almost commit bloggal suicide at times? I miss those characters and those days. All those fights with the ghosts bloggers ,only L.T was the referee… those were the days…..
Wechipuba we Rupiah. Uli nkoko sana
when violence takes root, its the women and children who suffer raping, child soldiers and now new on the scene( homosexual).
voting is not about leaders alone but party manifestos some leaders will die with the manifestos in their heads.
#23 and 27. The very mob that welcome ala bee at mosi o tunya will vote him out. ALa bee is fullabe. See what happened at ncc.
Ba RB you are a disgrace. The planning of these acts of violence is done right under you nose by William Banda. Term William and get rid of your cadres you are robbing Lusaka City Council off their revenue at markets and bus stations then order will return to the city. The voter out their is not amused by your cheap political condemnation not backed by remedial action. Remember what goes up always comes down. It wont be long before you are evicted from Plot One because of your enability to govern.
Bar Fee Tall Lay!
#38 Mr Mututwa, there is no similarity between the two. The NCC fiasco is due to selfishness by some MPs and government hands are absolutely clean on this one. If collectively the NCC agreed to refer the 50%+1 to a referendum, it is not right that some MPs should try to sneak it in through the backdoor (the PF way kikikikiki). You are the same people who would accuse government of dictatorial tendencies if they tried to include clauses which NCC did not recommend.
You sound like a UPND cadre distressed by what you saw in a supposedly UPND stronghold.
As for the vote, continue to bury your head in sand if that makes you comfortable.
President Banda please please stop your boys from operating from the bus stations and markets. I see war erupting if this is not done. Markets are public places and they do not belong to any political party. Just condemning by mouth will not help please instruct the police to be infective and give them back the powers which has been taken away by your commander William Banda,
What is happening in our nation is very embarrassing to the outside world. Please stop the rot
#39, start the ball rolling by getting rid of Mr Sata first.
I like the Post Newspaper but of late they seem to be running a deliberate malicious campaign again Mr Hakainde. If this village headman Imbwae was talking about Sata’s double dealings, e.g. rooting for Chiluba’s third term fiasco and later coming back to try and run for president himself after the oil of anointment missed his ugly gurumuthu, would they have covered it as headline news? I think they ought to be logical and fair to all.
Bwana john phiri. You are writing rubbish. Your view that Sata can be abducted by MMD candres is totallly hypothetical (speculative dreams). You know very well that Sata has not been visited by the law despite his evil to organise abductions of perceived political enemies, because Govt is averting the flaring of potentiall violence in the in urban areas where Sata breeds mischief. Where would the MMD cadres start to reach out to Sata’s PF offices. Dont twist facts to suit your political aspirations. Restrict comments on RB’s advice on warring youths. So far RB has provided a fatherly appeal to all the youths embracing MMD and PF cadres. Then what does Sata say on this crucial matter? Leadership quality hinges on ones ability to counsel ones children.

#44, welcome to the club of abused victims of the Post. They have been doing that to RB since 2008, apparently oblivious of the fact that despite their claims of digging deeper they never saw anything wrong with RB as Veep and consitutional heir apparent to Levy.
They say “my enemy’s enemy is my friend”, do we have a deal then?
It is the last thing I ever like to be a political party cadre. CC Malama doesnt know what he’s talking about. How do you argue about something which was even aired on Muvi tv? RB is pretending to condemn violence while deep down in his heart he is enjoying say “we’re expanding MMD influence both in markets and bus stations”
Needless to say, we all know William Banda has brought political violence from Malawi. RB dont think we are docile. Cant you see how VIPs are defecting to protesters in the Arab world. Dont feel insulated by false security. Come out in the open and condemn your name sake or just get rid of him other wise when real violence breaks you will not be able to handle it.
“President Banda said it was ridiculous that the two political parties were involved in acts of violence without any justifiable reasons.”
So, what would a justifiable reason be for acts of violence between two political parties? In fact, it is this statement that is ridiculous.
It seems to me the police are now used to looking behind their shoulders to see is if the government will approve of their actions, i.e. would it be acceptable to the ruling party? It has become a vigilante force since the one party state and it requires radical transformation.
He has already started with his 90 days!!! ‘PF president Micheal Sata this morning said he would avail a new constitution within 90 days of taking over government before end of this year.’
All well meaning Zambians must condemn violence. I was recently in Ivory Coast, believe me, it is not a situation I want for my mother Zambia. I appeal to all of you MMD and PF cadres to exercise tolerance, and agree to disagree. After all, most of you cadres are just blind chickens scratching for your masters (Sata or Banda), who eat well and do not hate each other as you poor cadres. Get yourselves a life and leave Zambia alone and peaceful!
ZIMBONGO BANDA is hopeless. A state house is not a night club or guesthouse for you Lupiya and Ka Thandiwe,NO! we need people who can think , here its not the matter of having ichimutwe ichikulu…the proplem is not the party MMD can go on but we need to kick off those family doing nothing in the statehouse…if no we gonna use Libya method.
What Lupiya and William Banda are doing is effectively decapaigning the MMD. PF please do not help them backtrack on their high way to eternal oblivion. All sensible Zambians are seeing what they would go through if MMD was to be given another chance. Just leave them disgust evry one so that they a booted hard out of power this year. Zambians can never go back to their vomit – UNIP style of leadership
# 46 CC Malama, just EAT WITH BOTH HANDS! Your RBish has taken us back to the days of UNIP when William Tekela Banda had unleashed unbridled violence on citizens of Lusaka. This man has a very violent past which rightfully irked FTJ before power went to his head and he became the worst plunderer we will ever see.
Rbish, coming out with a lukewarm rebuking of the vicious Movement for Mad Dogs cadres is least ridiculous and totally absurd! A president is suppose to be principled and categorical, sit his organisers down and give them altimatums to defuse violence or get sacked. Violence is not a concept for any normal leader to toy arround with as an instrument of intimidation to achieve him fear and return power. Zambians will not be intimidated nor lose sight of 2011 CHANGING GOVERNMENT!
This violence is a result of recycling leaders. What in heaven’s name, can William Banda bring to the table that will be devoid of violence? All he knows about problem resolution is mass mobilization, violent fracas, and by-air tactics that were good enough against the colonialists. You also have leaders (most of them over 70) who only know how to speak in contradictions – they will condemn violence and in the background encourage it!!! This is the fate that we have thrown ourselves into. The unfortunate part is the younger guys know no better; I was appalled by a 20-something guy at the airport asking me what Zambian tribe my name was as he believed my English didn’t remind him of any Zambian!!!! How can violence be ridiculous with such a mix??
