Swindled Serenje farmers seek audience with RB

Share

Over 200 angry farmers who were allegedly swindled of over K1 billion worth of maize by Cooperative Credit Scheme in Serenje district in Central Province have asked to meet President Rupiah Banda at State house.

Some of the affected farmers in a walk in interview with ZANIS in Serenje yesterday said they have been prompted to seek President Banda’s intervention because it had taken long for their issue to be resolved.

The farmers appealed to the President to quickly come to their aid to enable them start paying to
the Farmer Input Support Programme for 2011/2012 farming season and to help address their desperate situation.

They further explained that they have been suffering and their fields have not been worked on because of non payment of their working capital adding that their children have also not been able to go to school.

They described President Banda as a father of all people regardless of their political affiliations hence the need for him to intervene in the matter.

Cooperative Credit late year bought maize from 284 farmers and the total amount involved was K1, 352,876,230.00.

“Our wish is to come to State House so that we can be assisted through your office as the President of the nation. We are starving and our fields have not been worked on because our working capital has not been paid to us. Our children have not been admitted into their respective schools as there is no money to pay for them. ”

  2. To whose State house? He will shoot you. It is better to die from hunger than be shot by RB’s police using his son’s supplied weapons. Kabelebele mwana mayo..

  3. Zoona pa Zed ubupupu bwachilamo conmen are busy swindling these poor farmers…to add more salt to injury some of these farmers are former Tazara workers who have not yet been paid there terminal benefits by Tazara management so how do expect them to survive.

  4. Zambia Police seem to be clueless on investigating cases of fraud. This is a simple case of fraud. Just shows how useless our GRZ has become in ensuring that the public is safe, not only from real crooks, but form the forces of peacekeeping.

  5. #1 and #2 your contributions are senseless to the least. People want their money now and you tell them to vote for PF. How many people have been shot by visiting state house. Please be mature in your contribution if you have nothing to say just shut up!
As for the affected farmers I feel for you having worked with you in 2005 and 2006. What has the provincial Minister Hon Ackimson Banda done to help them?

  6. Who owns this cooperative and why haven’t they been arrested and made to face the wrath of the law? Obviously they have sold this maize so they should have the money.
The problem is the Zambian law enforcement and the justice system is a joke.People can commit crimes with impunity and nothing is done to them.Oh except for poor people the law will come down on you like a ton of bricks. But if you have money or politically connected then you can do whatever you want.Shame on the police and the justice system, they are toothless! They have no back bone! They are men without balls! Period.
