Opposition Patriotic Front Leader Michael Sata has charged that reports indicating that President Rupiah Banda has replaced Parliamentary Chief Whip Vernon Mwaanga as his Campaign manager with Education Deputy Minister Boniface Kawimbe is a ploy.
Mr. Sata said that the move is just a ploy by the ruling MMD to blindfold Zambians that Mr. Mwaanga has been kept out of the spotlight ahead of this year’s elections, while he continues to perform background roles.
He said that this is not the first time that the ruling MMD has succumbed to such tactics as they have done the same in the previous elections.
Mr. Sata was commenting on a media reports that President Banda has replaced Mr. Mwaanga with Doctor Kawimbe as Campaign manager in this year’s polls following a disagreement between the two emanating from the recent MMD convention which was held in Kabwe.
He said this in an interview with QFM.
Is Sata already looking for excuses just in case he loses the election? Why should he be concerned of who is MMD’s campaign manager?
It is a prerogative of the President to move around his team members on need basis. To disagree and realign in any institution with dynamism is democractic.

As I read it, the gist of what Sata said was essentially a warning to Zambians not to drop their guard against possible rigging by the MMD of the UPCOMING elections. It is a fact that many Zambians think Mwaanga is the mastermind of election rigging. Therefore, his removal as Banda’s campaign manager could lull some into thinking Mwaanga would no longer have a role in possible rigging, which is far from the truth, as Senior Citizen has just confirmed.

Advice from a fellow Mpika resident to Mr. Sata. Many notable PF members are anxious to see PF hold a Convention which will produce a credible Shadow Cabinet. Ba Sata need not spend his energy analysing the MMD’s management team, but organise his team democratically. What did Sata do to Kasama Central MP replaced by GBM? What did he do to Chimumbwa and Mumbi. Were these men not credible? The MMD team is rich with formidable personalities who have been constitutionally elected at the Convention. We have respect for Mwaanga because of his exceptional loyalty to Chiluba and RB. Mwaanga’ and back=seat advice to MMD’s strategies is valuable. Ba Sata should mind his own house rather than resort to hallucinations.
Whether Sata is talking sense or not is irrelevant. What many reasonable Zambians need now is a change of government. MMD should be voted out this year. MMD is in panicky mode: suddenly there is money for teachers’ perks, suddenly the balances are written off for people who did not complete to pay for their match-box size houses on the Copperbelt, suddenly a new mine is to be opened in Solwezi, etc, etc. This mere campaigning should not hoodwink Zambians. MY WISH: MMD to lose this year’s elections.
If Sata knows VJ as an election rigger, he is giving us more reasons why he should not be given the opportunity to be in State House. The two worked together in MMD and UNIP, why should one be favoured over the other. The fairest way out is to deny both of their parties, the chance to rule Zambia.
