Zambia’s First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda has expressed concern over the increased number of election violence in Africa.

Dr. Kaunda said there is urgent need to address the situation because innocent lives were being lost as a result such conflicts.

He was speaking during the opening of the 10th meeting of the African Union Panel of the wise in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday.

This was contained in statement released to ZANIS by the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, First Secretary- Press Dorcas Chileshe.

Dr. Kaunda said the AU Panel of the wise needs to advise and counsel current African political leaders to adhere to the electoral code conduct during and after elections to avoid disputes because

He said there is also need for African political leaders to strive to promote peace on the continent as they go towards elections.

  1. But panji is burning something and there is a lot of smoke that i can neither see nor hear you kk. I remember what you said about sata and then your own son is going to bed with sata. whats going on, kk. Have you spoken to your very evidently lost son. He is a disgrace. But anyway, am sure he is old enough, and now is time to let him taste vernom from the serpant. A snake never changes and it will bit one day. It may not bite him directly but panji will one day cry. Umonzi azalila. Trust me, iam talking from first hand experience. yizamuluma cobra. A cobra can stay a few days without eating and it can play with a baby, but once a baby knows it or its disturbed, azalila umonzi……

    • Senseless and evidently very very unwise comment. This can only come from an MMD cadre purely indoctrinated and raised by William Banda.

  2. Good message for William Banda’s crack squard and MMD atlarge. In Zambia,William Banda is violence and violence is William Banba and his party.

  3. There are very few politicians that have the love of people like you KK. Who could even PVT and change the constitution to allow plural politics and fearlessly fought corrupton, call for early election to avoid blood shed. You even allowed state owned media including ZNBC carry adverts and documentaries of the opposition. Its unfortunate RB seem not to have learnt anything from you despite serving under your guidance for so long. However, Zambians have defeated even political engineers though they are being resuscitated by their fellow corrupt elements

  4. ITS BECAUSE OF SELFISH OLD POLITICIANS WHO OVERSTAY IN POLITICAL POWER AND CAUSE OBSTRUCTION TO THE UPCOMING YOUNG ONES WITH POLITICAL AMBITIONS.YOU &FTJ ARE SUPPORTING RB SIMPLY COZ YOU BELONG TO THE SAME AGE GROUP.. YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT YOU BOTH WERE PRESIDENTS IN YOUR 40s.LETS JUST HAVE GOOD SYSTEMS IN PLACE WHERE POLITICIANS WOULD SERVE AND LEAVE TO AVOID SUFFOCATING THOSE BEHIND THEM…

  5. Conflict situations on the Continent of Africa are mainly fuelled by Neo colonialism. AU leaders must be quick to respond to conflict just like SADCC was quick to respond to Zimbabwe. The western world has failed to create a ‘situation’ in Zim because of how southern african countries are united. Zim is rich in gold, diamonds and uranium (used for making ammunition).Let us handle our own problems. Hey, its like let me know when to divorce my wife/husband myself. What are you interested in when you have your own problems yourself???

  6. Now, in the name of nato, they want to bomb the major infrastructure in Libya. Only to reconstruct it using their own contractors at huge costs and to give them ‘AID’ (loans) with plenty of strings attached only to their benefit.Their moto is divide and exploit

  7. Those who tal about old politicians should show us achivements by young politicians than being responisble for commissioning the crimes we see and old people simply wat us to start afresh-Ukubesesha bola ku numa-sending the ball back to our D-Zone for fresh start.
Chitala,Mulongoti are priudent people.Kavindele is damn good patient vulture heheh.Youths must proof how best they can do things against the people they call old.Kaunda is teaching against violence but us the youth are faning coruption and violenve so old people will help us

  8. if kk had left good legacy of handing over power when time was due we wouldnt be in a situation of politics of hatred. so just just shut up kk.

  9. Good afternoon

I equally share the concern raised by our first president. The use of force in elections as seen in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Sudan and other African countries is a very bad development.

On the other hand, history has also shown us that it is sometimes necessary to eliminate some in order to liberate some. The road to peace is usually splattered with blood and not even the panel of the wise can offer quick solutions to the various conflicts on our continent.

The AU also needs to involve African youth more in their concept. They are the ones who will take over the destiny of the continent and they have better tools to reorganise politics and to avoid more disputes in future. The Facebook revolution in Egypt ought to be an example of how influential young people can be.

  10. #9 -JOYCE you must be someone born during the 1990’s otherwise you would not insult the founding President .If it was not for KK giving up his tenure we would not have had a peaceful zambia.I bet this cannot have been done by the Kaponyas in MMD or their surrogates The PA Fwaka ,KK is a real patriot its a pity we didnot listen to him that we were voting in THUGS OF EVERY HUE-chiluba,VJ,SATA,SIKOTA,PENZA just llok at the least.

  11. Leave us moslems alone. We thrive on violence and unlike u christians we are not afraid to die. Allah akubah…

  12. KK is right.. but violence is fuelled by authorities that dont want to allow other opinions except theirs to prevail. If you take over ZNBC and force it to say only good things about Kanitundila You do the same to Daily Mail and Times people have no outlet for their anger so they will revolt violently. Botswana has been doing this since independence but its about to explode. So is Zambia. This is the time when we need selfless leadership thats concerned about the whole nation rather their families and friends only.

  13. One has to travel in order to realise how the western world infiltrates mineral rich economies to their benefit. They have experts for each country. They provide funds and withdraw them as a control mechanism. Sata, recently came to try and source these funds but the odds of winning are against him. You can easily tell about the odds by the british govt’s manouver of giving our incumbant wise boss RB, funds to facilitate a free and fair election. They know RB is going to win. That money is not for free, its got strings attached. For every dollar we get, they get atleast ten dollars back thru other means. The point is the unity shown by southern african countries should be extended or emmulated in the north. Let no one infiltrate our family!! Lets handle our own!!

  14. #10 Chale, I only disagree that youths can be blamed by violence. And the Facebook guy from Egypt is not a youth at all. The rebels shattering their own houses in Libya are not youths, Swangira of MDC in Zimbabwe is not a youth, William Banda of Zambia is a living example that Africa tolerates violent leaders.
#13 Angoni Bull is more right.
My worry is RUPHIA BANDA ever going to sit on the WISE MEN panel? In current MMD government I can’t count 2 wise men. UNIP had atleast 5 in each cabinet.

  15. Tiyende pamodzi ndi m’tima umo, Tiyende pamodzi ndi m’tima umo. Kaunda tiye!!!!!!!! Kaunda tiye!!!!!! Tiyende pamodzi ndi m’tima umo. One Zambia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One Nation!!!!!!!!!!!! Kuma 80’s ninshi ni ku meeting ya UNIP kekekekekekekekekeke!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awe ndife ba kudala ife.

  16. KK the Man! We are proud of you Son of Africa! The liberation of Africa and history cannot be complete without this legendary man! May the Lord be with you KK!

  17. Mulongoti # 14 you are right. In 2003 I had an opportunity to sit down with KK and I learned a lot from him which was a part of my writing concerning what you have raised here! Abengi abantu tabaishiba “amasetting aya!”

  18. guys KK for president. this old man would do better than all those in the political arena in Zambia today. he made mistakes but most of them were honest mistakes. not what i see in MMD where they have planned mistakes. kuyabebele. and we will arrest you as soon as you leave those offices.

  19. Ba KK mwagwila nchito, ba KK chikondi chiyamba mumanja mupitilize pasogolo, oh KK ndimwe son of Africa … Nashil Pitchen Kazembe

  20. Big Mouthed KK …Shutup !!!!!! You failed to solve the Barotse agreement where you appended you dirty signature, Practice what u preach IWE…Old for nothing …

  21. KK walibomba compared to Mugabe. You were not that perfect as Zambian are looking for Angels and will only remember that u re one of them far beyond Mwanawasa when you die. VIVA KK. Tiyende Pamodzi ndi mutima umo

  22. Your Honor Sir, Dr KK your observation is good but start by advising your sons Panji and Waza to avoid abusive language torwards others. Cadres mainly implement what their leaders say.

  23. KK is a great man. What he did for Zambia and Africa. When you travel and live in other people countries you communicate with others, you share your experiences. KK was fighting big boys with power and money, for him to say NO to Maggie Thatcher (Ronald Regan dancing partner) that took some courage. Are there any past or present leaders in Zambia who would have said No to these big boys. Yes, Zambia went through hell for supporting our brothers and sisters when they were going through their problems. And yes some of our brothers and sisters forgot about us once they got their independence. But it’s ok, we Zambians are loving good people, we keep doing the right thing we shall be blessed in fact we are blessed. One Zambia one Nation lets keep our motto going guys.

  24. In order to have orderly transistions in African Countries, we need to think of something that will be more attractive than being a president. There should be something for these guys to do after leaving the presidency. We will do well to study how the West treats its former leaders. It is not rocket science. I am an Engineer so those people from ‘kuchikwakwa’ can help us with their sociological studies.

  25. SHOOT  or LOCK  William Banda and the Problem will be solved. This bastard thinks we own him something and he has powers to do whatever he wants.

  26. Panji, state house and power is for everyone. So, please your family had a share. Leave it man. Go to the farm. Go back to the land. Your father was right.
