ALLIANCE for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi has said he will not waste his time to enter into an electoral alliance with either Patriotic Front (PF) or United Party for National Development (UPND) and has declared that he will contest this year’s presidential elections.

He said the two opposition parties were the best example of failed alliances in Zambia. Mr Milupi’s remarks come in the wake of reports of failed talks with the UPND and suggestions that PF leader Michael Sata was quoting the ADD to boost his popularity in Western Province.

“I am not going to waste my time to enter into an alliance. I am standing as a presidential candidate this year.

“The PF and the UPND are the best example of how political party alliances fail in Zambia, so how would I go and work with such parties?” he said.

Some UPND sources yesterday said the party had failed to enter into an electoral alliance with ADD because Mr Milupi was unrealistic as he wanted all the seats in Western Province.

They told the Times that the two parties met two weeks ago to try and form an electoral pact.

“We met but we failed to agree because demands from the ADD were unrealistic. For instance, they wanted to be the ones to field parliamentary candidates in all the constituencies in Western Province but as UPND we felt that we are equally as strong in the province,” they said.

However, Mr Milupi accused UPND of trying to destabilise his party.“How can they say that I am unrealistic and that I want the entire seats in Western Province if we are to form an alliance?

“That is the worst insult because we want all the seats in Zambia and not just Western Province. We are fielding candidates in all the 150 constituencies,” he said.

  1. You are a time waster, how much do you have? You are better of as a chairman of some parliamentary committee not president of the Republic of Zambia.Riding on the back of tribalism you won’t make it bwana.

  2. Here comes another jocker. We now have one more jocker in addition to our seasoned Sata, then the under five HH, and the honest Miyanda.

  3. Milupi has stated that he will use his democratic right to stand as President on the ADD ticket.
We can only wish him well including all the other potential candidates.
Insulting him does not help matters especially if you think he is a non starter.Or is he really a force to reckon with for some people to be so jitttery about his pronouncements??

  4. Tizaonako, wina azalira. UPND wanted to ride on ADD’s back to win WP? Interesting how UPND can become so promiscuous. They pulled out of pact with PF hoping to blackmail MMD using the constitution making process and failed, and betrayed MMD in Parliament, now ADD. How many Parties is UPND going to call names when they fail to patronise them? I wonder the integrity and credibilty of the UPND leadership.

UPND, you can do better than this, and hope to be the future strong and bigger opposition to PF, if you don’t disband after elections due to money hunger by UPND MPs.

  5. Indeed no need to insult Milupi but only ideal to remind him of not only how much time he will waste if he goez solo, but even of the huge resourcez that will go with the exercize.

  6. MILUPI HAS BEEN BRIBED BY MMD TO CONTEST SO THAT THE VOTES IN WESTERN PROVINCE CAN BE DIVIDED.MILUPI YOU ARE JUST A DULL GUY.I WONDER IF YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO GET EVEN 10 VOTES. KEEP DREAMING ABOUT GETTING INTO PLOT 1.

  7. Either way MMD is loosing support in Western province and Sata gaining in there. The rest of the country the status quo of 2008 will hold with minor differences especially PF gaining ground in places they lagged behind last time. As for Milupi its the greatest mistake. People want change and you are viewed as a spoiler. You will get votes in Western and no any other part in zambia thus you have risked to be perceived a tribalist and will haunt you for the rest of your political carrier. The choice is yours. And for the sake of Zambians, why do you politicians fail to unit even when you are fighting a common goal.

  8. Watch this space; Edith Nawakwi, Miyanda, Ben Mwila, Sekwiba Sikota, Siulapwa, Cosmo Mumba, Chipimo Jnr to mention just a few, will all line up for plot 1electionz this year.

  9. #Ba Kuya…….dont base your analysis based on what you see and read in the post newspaper. My dear friend go round the country and not just urban areas, you will be shocked that even the copperbelt will be split this time around, one town where votes will reflect differently is kitwe.
The problem in Zambia is this sickness of following majority, analyse issues and contribute objectively my dear friendship.
Honestly, how can Lozi’s support someone who hates their paramount chief (Litunga)??? i cant understand you.

  10. VOTE MICHAEL SATA AND PF IF YOU WANT CHANGE.
BE PART OF THE BALLOT REVOLUTION AS THE WIND OF CHANGE BLOWS ACCROSS ZAMBIA.
PF IS THE ONLY LARGEST OPPOSITION PARTY WHICH WILL BRING THE BADLY WANTED CHANGE. PABWATOOOO,MWAMUKOLO COME 2011.
Beware of small tribal parties like ADD,UPND which just split votes.

  11. There must be something beneficial in contesting for president in zambia despite our belief that it makes those who fail to win poor. Chama Chakomboka, Gwendolyn Connie(MHSRIP), Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika, Nevers Mumba, Godfrey Miyanda,. Didn’t these people surely see that they did not stand any Chance of winning a presidential election – yet they went ahead. And now Milupi. Lozis are not tribal as others have always thought. They just vote for quality leadership. I will bet here that Milupi will not even beat HH in Western Province. RB will still win that province by more than 55%

  12. The other self delusional joker is Godfrey Miyanda , him Milupi and Pule and most of these inconsequential parties are people who can’t separate their dreams from reality or their imagination from what really happens on earth.
