Simba may have not renewed Patrick Phiri’s contract for next season but their former coach on Thursday won the Tanzania coach of the year award.
Phiri, who left Simba after three seasons in charge last month, was voted as the Tanzania Football Federation Vodacom Coach of the year on Thursday.
This is despite Simba failing to retain its league title after archrivals Young Africans snatched the crown on the final day of the season on goal difference after finishing on 46 points that subsequently led to Phiri’s departure.
Phiri took home the equivalent of K9 million from league sponsors and mobile telephone provider Vodacom.
Meanwhile, Isaac Chansa has been shortlisted for the South Africa MTN Top 8 Cup player of the tournament.
The Orlando Pirates midfielder is on the three-man shortlist together with club-mate and veteran defender Lucky Lekgwathi and ex-Bafana Bafana striker Siyabonga Nomvete of Moroka Swallows.

It is very disappointing that Simba expected nothing but a win of the league again and again and again! No it never goes that way! We will see if their new coach will give them the first spot! I wish them a fifth spot then they will come to know who Patrick Phiri really is as a coach. Congratulations Patrick.
