Two people have died while 34 others are nursing serious injuries after a truck lost control and hit into a Toyota Mark two car registration number ABF 4222 along Katimamulilo road, in Lusaka’s Garden compound.

The Truck with unknown registration number first knocked down a pedestrian before hitting into a Toyota Mark two.

And Mandevu Member Of Parliament Jean Kapata who was at the scene of an accident expressed sadness at the increasing number of accidents along Katimamululilo road.

Ms. Kapata has since appealed to the Lusaka City Council to consider putting up humps that will force motorists to drive at a low speed.

The accident happened around 12 hours when an Isuzu truck carrying mourners lost control and hit into a Toyota mark 2 registration number ABF 4222.

Police spokesperson Ndandula Siamana confirmed the accident to MUVI TV news.

Ms. Siamana says the driver of the truck Shadreck Banda had no drivers’ license and is in police custody.

She has advised members of the public to avoid getting on to overloaded vehicles when going to the graveyard.

The bodies of the deceased are lying in UTH mortuary.

  1. There is need for us to be proactive as a law abiding nation. The Police must intensify their patrols and stop all suspicious looking vehicles to check for their fitness. We always act after a nasty accident has happened and this is not good. Even us motorists must learn to observe road traffic rules. Many people think they appear very clever when they break traffic rules. You don’t gain anything by being unruly. Infact you look foolish. My appeal is to the police and RTSA to intensify on patrols. They should not just be driving around. By acting together we can serve many lives. The Police and RTSA must introduce random checks.

  2. RSTA are the most hopeless in curbingtraffic offences. They chaps are only seen on the roads when Road Tax licences are due and they want to make ‘quick money’. However when minibus drivers are misbehaving around peak hour; loading on the roads esp Arcades Bus stations, these Pot-Bellied RSTA Inspectors and their flashy cars are NOWHERE to be seen !

  3. Agreed with all views above. Instead of patrolling the roads, RTSA officers mount static check points on high ways. Defective motor vehicles and unlicenced drivers easily elude them. Time to wake up and save innocent lives.

  4. The police spokesperson advises people to ”avoid getting on to overloaded vehicles when going to the graveyard”. Does this mean that it is alright to travel on lorries when travelling elsewhere?
Not long ago policemen travelling on a defective police truck were involved in a nasty crash in Mazabuka and the police spokesperson did not comment. These accidents will go on as long as there is no effective law to ban once and for all the transportation of human beings on those killer lorries.
