Patriotic Front Munali Member of Parliament Mumbi Phiri says it would be abnormal for her to discourage residents in her area from getting solar geysers from ZESCO when it is their money being used.
Mrs. Phiri says whether the project is a political gimmick by the ruling MMD of not, residents in her area should take advantage of the geysers but should cast their votes wisely.
She tells QFM that it is too late for the MMD to fool people into voting them back into power during the forthcoming general elections as people have already made up their minds on who to put in office.
Mrs. Phiri has also challenged the Zambia Electricity Supply Cooperation (ZESCO) to expand their generosity to supporting students the same way it did with the solar geysers.
She says it would be generous for the power supply company to sponsor some vulnerable students at the national resource development centre (NRDC)

I do not think she knows what she is talking about, just ignorane at its worst being exhibited here. I have a lot of time for my fellow women, but this soman is out of depth, and It saddens me to hear than she will be some Minister in the next government. We cant be that dsperate are we? Thanks
Mushota u jst another ***** without game. grow up!!!!!!!!!
This chik, Mumbi Phiri is ugly. That aside, I think she has a point.
Mushota, atlast you have spoken some sense this time. How can normal pipo vote for such a leader. Dull begets dull
UNZA, apparently is in her constituency! and how would do you describe those who voted for Shikapwasha???
Ba PF please this year spare us such mediocre pieces of subhumans you call MPs in our urban areas.Give us calibre men and women for MPs especially in Lusaka and kopala.
By saying vote wisely, I hope she knows that means not voting for the likes of her!!! That is why I said she has a point!!!
There are no free things in the world. Barklays for example have scrapped off ATM fees but increased other tariffs instead. Let us get these geysers because we never know because one way or the other we will pay for them or have already done so. Zambians all gifts given to us by these politicians coming months, Tujili gili, chibuku, chitenges, plots etc, Let us collect but this should not influence our voting because we will be back without free mealie meal soon after voting. And “intelligent” people on this blog think Mumbi Phir is dul.l. Being dul.l and intelligent is relative.
Isn’t what this boxer woman saying in essence ‘if you cant beat them, join them’?, truly this boat will be worse than the Titanic. At least the Titanic made it to water before it sunk.
at last mushota has a point, mumbi phiri and her sinking boat can never make government. The PF can not be trusted with power, from the day of the elections in 2008,they have been politicking, insults, chasing friends from the pact,no manifesto.zambians have made a point,no change of government, the MMD continues
Cantankerous, loquaciuos, garulous and quarrelsome people are usually members of the PF. NO WONDER!!!!!!!!!!
NUMBER ONE YOU TALK A LOT CAN YOU SEE WHAT YOU WROTE WITH SPELLINGS ,YOU WHO EDUCATED MADAM.
I see nothing wrong with her statement, that gu instead of wasting that money obviuosly on chinese cheap geysers, its better spent on education simple. I agree with “ZAMBIANS BEING FED FIEGURES” only the pipo here that think they re “INTELLIGENT” are the only ones vomiting what they think in thier matako’s.
These geysers very soon will start malfunctioning, pipo will start spending money for repair & the ocst of that geyser will maybe add up to half or 1. Ni waste of money
Ba Mushota…cizungu nicho vuta….what comment did you make also?…dont write like your sending sms’s to all of us…i couldnt hear anything from your comment and yet you say you are a high class lady…
Why NRDC natural resources development college students only, why not UNZA , EHC,NIPA ETC what is the interest? Honorable does NRDC mean national resource development centre or natural resources development college?
Mumbi you are right people should get those geyzers because its there money and vote wisely. I agree with you we are no longer children to be fooled with feck so called developmental projects at the last minutes.
Mumbi Phiri says people have already made up their minds to vote the MMD out. I wonder where she got the facts from! She is so simplistic and thinks politics is about uttering whatever comes to your head. She will be shocked when the results come out. She really lacks objectivity. We need serious women to contest elections, not chancers for leadership roles.
What the MP is saying is simple: Donchi ukubeba!
Mumbi is very rightt! MMD is using people’s money to bribe them. Bloggers, let the people apply for thses geysers and then vote MMD out! These 18th century fake develepment(al) projects are so outdated!! Also, I thin Mumbi Phiri is better looking that Dora “fat” Siliya!!
thanks good madam, thumb up!!!!lets vote wisely this year not on tribal lines but for economic prosperity not leaders who cant interpret GDP on platforms like IMF/world bank, not leaders who are an embarrasement to our global village,as the world stands now we need vibrant leadership with serious developmental plans for zambia, whose interest is education, agric, tourism, economic issues in short someone who undestands-PEST(political,economical,social and technological aspect of life) we as zambians a luck we have that person who qualifies in those lines-HH
someone please advise mumbi phiri that her statement is very dangerous. once those pf voters taste the fruits of the mmd tree (geysers, roads, schools, mobile hospitals, double bumper harvest=food security, etc etc etc) they will be wondering why they have wasted time with pf all these years. no strategy ba pf, you have run out of ideas completely. just continue with what you know best, i.e. the expired 90 days strategy.
#15 Given an opportunity, i will go for Dora!!!! Despite being fat she is chewable and also beaultiful. Mumbi Phiri is ugly. Former Airhostess turned politician.
Surely, how can we have an MP that encourages people to accept gifts instead of questioning the source of funds of the said gifts. Mumbi how will you practice accountability and stamp out corruption when you accept situations like this to happen? It says a lot about the calibre of PF. Sata has created a very big monster in PF (One man party show) that he will fail to appease all if he had to be elected President.
for me she is correct the zesco just increased tariffs now is seen how it was planed to use it for free solar geysers
I wish this was done at all Colleges and universities
What do you expect from former pre-school teachers? Always shooting down developments, explain to the people what your inept party will offer apart from the more money in your pockets nonsesnse.
People, I am struggling to understand the negative vitriolic reactions to the poor woman’s comments. On the first point, is she not just stating the obvious? I do not think people will shun the geysers for political reasons. It was a silly, perhaps naughty question from QFM.
On the second point, how naive of her to think that the voters have already made up their minds about whom they will vote for. Does she know something the electorate don’t? What complacency or is it arrogance by PF?
She is not bad looking I wouldn’t mind dating her does anyone have her number?
Imwe ba Lt which which school did you go to? What does NRDC stand for. Dont write things which you dont know. ‘Natural Resources Development College’ alah!
I am appalled at the amount of ignorance that is being exhibited on this forum even from people with so-called impeccable education. The use of solar water heaters is a DAMN GOOD IDEA. My only objection is that this project is being tooted as the brain child of RB and an MMD’s campaign tool. The World Bank has been funding these energy saving projects under its increased access to electricity programme. At the height of load shedding I wrote to a daily paper that the quickest and cheapest way of easing load shedding was by introducing energy saving measures. In Uganda and Rwanda energy saving bulbs were introduced. Incandescent bulbs were replaced with energy saving bulbs at no cost. In America an electric utility replaced inefficient fridges.
Cont’d.. ZESCO has not only introduced energy saving bulbs but has introduced solar water heaters as well. According to ZESCO statistics 40% of domestic electricity consumption goes towards water heating. Solar water heaters will result in reduced electricity bills. If one electric geyser uses 1500W, 150,000 solar water heaters is a saving of 150MW more than the planned Itezhitezhi Scheme. The cost of this plant is much more than solar water heaters. The selection of Mandevu is political. A substantial number of people in Mandevu use charcoal. It would have resulted in almost 100% saving of electricity for water heating if a place like Kabulonga had been chosen. The reduction in the consumption of charcoal is however welcome as it is environmentally friendly.
Nkaki, just vist the National Assembly of Zambia website and get her contact details you poor soul.
Haha! #4 VJ Rigger says “(PF) give us calibre men and women for MPs especially in Lusaka and kopala”. Where do you think they will get calibre people? In fact, they detest calibre people because their sacred top leadership is scared of calibre people. They prefer to work with dull people so that top leadership may appear bright amongst the lot. PF will end up simply as a circus whether they win or not.
# 1& 3 WAKE UP FROM YOUR DREAMS. Lusaka and Munali in particular is PF stronghold. MMD has no chance in Lusaka and CB. They depend on rural votes which they easily manipulate. That is why they are damn scared of PVT.
Thjanks # 31 I will be travelling home in 2 weeks time I will just do that.
#29 and #30 Senior Engineer RTD
Thanks for the clear, articulate and level headed contribution. I now have a good understanding of this solar geysers issue whether environmentally, politically and economically. Looks like there are too many ideologies/philosophies at play on this one. Great post keep it up
Geysers! Geysers! Out of all the basic services needed in the homes, some ***** picks a geyser as the most important. Most of the places in Lusaka don’t have sewer lines and tap water. Instead of asking for sewer lines to reduce cholera and diarrhoeal and dysentery during the rain season when pit latrines overflow, you ask for a geyser. This shows lack of leadership, people have being dying of cholera every year in Lusaka for a long time and a geyser is not going to change that scenario.Good luck with your geysers! I hope they work
@21, just a correction, “honourable” mumbi phiri is not a former air hostess, she is just like the other prominent pf politicians, hardly grade seven. maybe you mistake her with the husband a former pilot?
SOON Elias Mopndela is going to kwatila the FIRST LADY.Every day his on the phone with her.
Bakamba ali Bad mudala you can not leave your wife I reapt your wife alone with him uzapeza Baku vendezelza ba madam ka
Senior RTD Engineer please save us your ignorance on economics!! World bank doesn’t just give freebies!! Giving freebies is NOT ECONOMICALLY SOUND. If that were the case, I’d say give freebies that will sustain & preserve life as relates to Zambians today, that is Food, Water & Medicines – Not hot water geysers in a tropical climate which experiences at the most 3 months of MILD WEATHER, becoz our old season, is not COLD (am sure you can recall your physics).
I don’t have to remind you that we actually moved away from giving these items free a long time ago!! It is good to know that you are retired, but just get yourself a solar heater in sunny kabulonga rather than a free one & let the masses continue their long hard fight for an equitable state, that will improve their lives!!!
The fact that MMD are using this as an election gimmick is not my problem. The use of solar water heaters is still a damn good idea.
