WORKERS at Mwamona Engineering Enterprises, a Kitwe-based company owned by Patriotic Front (PF) Roan member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili, have accused their employer of victimisation and illegal dismissal.
The workers have complained that management has allegedly effected a 35 percent salary deduction while some of the workers have been dismissed without following procedure.
Mr Kambwili said he owns the company and confirmed that management has fired some workers for allegedly staging an illegal strike.
But some of the workers said in Kitwe yesterday that Mr Kambwili’s company is allegedly abusing their rights and called on Government to intervene.
Their spokesperson, Anthony Mwila, said some workers have been fired for allegedly opposing management decision to effect a 35 percent salary deduction.
“We reported the matter to the labour office in Kitwe and Mr Kambwili and his partners were summoned. It is unfair that the man who talks ill of Chinese investment in Zambia can today treat his fellow Zambians so badly.
“Our colleagues have been fired after they opposed the deductions from their salaries. We are appealing to Government to address this injustice,” Mr Mwila said.
He said the workers are demanding that management pays them the money it has been deducting from their salaries for three months.
“We cannot believe that a man who strongly condemns Chinese investment in Zambia can treat us like this.
These are the same politicians vying to take over government. We are disappointed with Mr Kambwili because he is supposed to protect workers,” he said.
Mr Mwila accused the management of Mwamona Engineering Enterprises of being insensitive to the plight of the workers.
But Mr Kambwili said some workers were fired after they went on an illegal strike.
“I have eight companies, but I don’t run them on a daily basis. They are independent. They have their own managers. Ask those workers if they have seen me in Mwamona Engineering Enterprises premises. I don’t go there because there are people who run the compnaies on a daily basis. My main interest is dividends at the end of the year,” he said.
Mr Kambwili urged the workers to follow procedure when airing their grievances and referred queries to the Mwamona Engineering Enterprises management.
““We cannot believe that a man who strongly condemns Chinese investment in Zambia can treat us like this.
These are the same politicians vying to take over government. “ end quote.
BINGO!!!!
Double tobela MP
With all due respect to Mr Kambwili I don’t think his 8 companies are so large and professionally managed that his involvment is as a silent shareholders who get dividends at the end of the year. One would think he was talking about a listed company, but just going by its name you can have an idea of its size. Its true he may not be involved in the day-to-day running but as a major shareholder he surely should take interest when his compamy decides to cut salaries by 35% or indeed workers go on strike. How else would he protect his investment so that he can receive his dividends at the end of the year. Unfortunatly Kambwili only makes headlines for the wrong reasons. PF does not need this right now!!
I knew this stroy would excite Mr Capitalist!!!!!!
35% salary reductions instead of salary increases!!!! unheard off!!
This is typical of the PF MPs worse off is those of SATA
Youths or young people i want you to be very careful when it comes to choosing leaders. Why is it that many seasoned people like chiefs, old politicians, KK, Chiluba and others are against people? Only those thirsty polticians like chongwe, Harrington, Nkandu luo, malimba Masheke, Sondashi who are come back like evander Holyfield, hope you know him, are interest in coming to loot. Please be aware of chaps in PF. If we elect PF we’re talking about 2021 of old people. God help us.
Mwamona ba PF, Chinese are better than some of your MPs, especially the ones who speak loudest.
Yes, this in not good for you Mr Kambwili and even PF to some extent. Instead of giving excuses, go to Kitwe and sort out that mess. You are embarrassing yourself
@#7, this has nothing to do with PF, for your information RB is a major shareholder in one of the transport companies in lsk and drivers are ill treated, salary are almost non existence.Go to HHs farms in Chisamba and Choma and you will hear how workers complain about poor conditions of service.
bwete iyo gud………
kekekekeke hahahahah; Kambwili has 8 companies and one of them is called Mwamona. What about the Shenanigan expert, has he got any? What is the name of his company?
#9 Please tip off the Post! This is stuff they would be excited about! Or is it that they have already visited the RB and HH firms/farms without finding any titillating story about suffering workers?
Running a company and your ‘main interest is dividends at the end of the year’ says too much about the MP’s calibre and management style. Nothing to do with the company except dividends, why is that?
This is nothing compared to someone working for “Jamba” (James Banda) who will fire someone and say “My father will deal with you” or “Do you know who I am?” Kambwili is simply strategising his business and reacting to market forces- why stay in business when you are only making losses? And because he is not doing well and reduces his staff; does that exempt his from pointing out the excesses of the Chinks? My message to spokesperson, Anthony Mwila is simple: You are fired!
This story lacks authenticity. To start with, who is the author or the source?
These are not reliable chaps! ati don’t kubeba at pf will be the worst shambles ever! cry my beloved nation! And the man has said he is only interested in dividends, watch out mama zambia.
No wonder many in Zambia are just noise makers to woo voters. These pf guys are not to be trusted, even their leader Sata some time in the Chiluba regime visited UTH at night just to blow a trumpet for some to say he cares, and that was when he realised that he wanted to run for presidency. Thus are just noise makers just in public without any action. HH in all his companies has a policy of empowering employees, no one works for him for over 10 years without establishing his or her own company. Zambians we need to get rid of those who make noise for public goodness just to get votes but their actions are the opposite of what they tell us. Vote wisely this time around no making same mistakes as such have costed us a lot.
I always knew this Kambwili chap was an imposter. He likes yapping about Chinese this, Chinese that, yet the hypocrite is a supplier to the Chinese run mines, thereby making him part and parcel of the system that he is so vehemently against. If he was so principled in his racist anti Chinese stance, he should just say no to being a supplier. I guess the money is too good. If so, then he should just shut the f***k up!
To top it off, I hear he will be Minister of Mines if PF win this year. Just watch this space, he will love being referred to as Honourable, our copper production will go down, he and his relatives will monopolise the supply to the mines, he will blackmail the Chinese, he will take kickbacks. Just watch, this man is nothing but poor cadre who with new found access to $$$
The guy might have a heart for his workers but he’s really a dodgy scatter-brain who runs his firms with no strategic foresight. He’s a con too. After being deregistered as a supplier at Luanshya mine for supplying a ‘gonger’ pimped up Toyota Hilux van as an ambulance, he needs to get his act together as he only got back these contracts by virtue of his position. If he messes up now, and fails to hang on to his constituency, it will be curtains for him and back to the UK since he’s so political. It’s sad for the workers as we’d expect expansion and not contraction; considering business opportunities available on the copper belt.
i have been vindicated atleast. viva RB
Am happy that no bemba kaponya will ever come near our state confers. these kaponyas believe in devidends
Well it only happens in Zed. Barclays did the same thing reduced salaries and downgraded managerial positions and ‘former managers’ were given an option of leaving or applying for lower positions. BBZ got away with it. Sure even Kambwili or whatever his companies will happen.
And you want to make this character a commerce, mines minister or whatever ministrial position to manage affairs of the country when he cant manage a ntemba. Again vote for PF at your own peril.
#19, you are right. The trouble is that the common Zambians dont want to listen. Sadly most of them dont even read to know the dealings of their so called true leaders. They just following blindly.
I meant to say that they are just following blindly
Only Bemba tribalists would vote for this hippo faced buffoon with a penchant for violence – period.
hh is the worst i dont like the way he treats his workers the chap is stingy
