Sunday’s Post Newspaper editorial comment on Chiluba denounced

Share

Some Lusaka residents have denounced Sunday’s Post Newspaper editorial comment on Second Republican President Dr. Frederick Chiluba.

The residents say Dr Chiluba should be accorded magnanimous respect as he was the father of the nation for 10 years.

They have also stated that Dr. Chiluba deserves forgiveness for some perceived short-comings during his tenure.

The Post Newspaper in its Sunday editorial made reference to theft charges, levelled against Dr Chiluba.

The paper has also stated that Dr Chiluba’s perceived enemies must not attend the funeral, if their presence could jeopardise chances of mourning the second Republican President peacefully.

And the Evangelical Youth Alliance has castigated the Post Newspapers for allegedly trivializing the accomplishments of second republican President Frederick Chiluba in Sunday’s editorial comment.

Alliance president Moses Lungu says it is sad that the Post has failed to highlight the numerous achievements Dr Chiluba scored and has instead chosen to attack his legacy.

Reverend Lungu has advised the paper to desist from attacking the dead as doing so is unchristian.

He says all well meaning Zambians are mourning Dr Chiluba with dignity and respect.

  1. Chiluba’s funeral is being politicized. As much as death may not be wished on anyone, and whether some bloggers like it or not, there are individuals and institutions out there that would rather not pretend to pay glowing tribute to the late President. I think both sides should be respected. Personally, I believe that if you have nothing positive to say about someone, better to keep quiet about it.

  2. THE TRUTH HAS TO BE REPORTED. YOU CAN’T CHANGE SOMEONE’S HISTORY SIMPLY BECAUSE HE HAS NOW PASSED ON. HE WAS A THIEF AND IT WAS ONLY FAIR TO MAKE REFERENCE TO THAT. I THOUGHT THE ARTICLE ACTUALLY PAINTED HIM AS A SAINT!! I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE MORE OF WHAT HE ACTUALLY DID FOR ZAMBIA – PLUNDER, PLUNDER AND MORE PLUNDER

    • I’m curious war judgement proved chiluba to be a theif?????in your opinion his a theif just like inmmyopinion mwanawasa was a theif its just he died in oFice… too bad Dr chiluba live llong e enough to enjoy himself to the max.

    • Yes Chiluba stole but the thing that he stole that was precious to most of us was the elections that Mazoka won and gave it to Mwanawasa who graciously and knowingly received it with open arms; when the deal went sour along the way he turned his back on Chiluba and started looking for something to take Chiluba out…How how how?? Mwanawasa was worse. My opinion. Thank U. Chiluba REST IN PEACE!!!

  3. It appears the population of people who f.a.r.t through their mouths is increasing in Zambia. I wonder if thethey use their a.r.s.e.s for sex instead of getting rid of the faecal matter that they spew out.

  4. This Kafupi guy justwe sht of celebrating Levy’s death so why should he suddenly become a saint just cause hes kicked the bucket really hard. Trut is that he was thief. Like Obama said about Osama’s death, the world is a better place without him.

  5. This Kafupi guy just went short of celebrating Levy’s death so why should he suddenly become a saint just cause hes kicked the bucket really hard. Truth is that he was thief. Like Obama said about Osama’s death, the world is a better place without him.

  6. If Chiluba accorded every Zambian dignity and respect, then let every Zambian mourn him as such.

Does anybody remember what happened to renowned journalist Gorethi Mapulanga in the Chiluba regime?

  7. Mmembe sata pact at work. Is this surely a human way of mourning the dead ? Who has never had a short coming in life ? Every human has a legacy , good and bad . The human way of honouring the dead is to appreciate even just the little good things they ve done whilst alive . No amount of negative writing from mmembe sata ll take away the achievements of chiluba . Its block vote for rb from luapula .

    • My short coming as an ordinary citizen would be LESS significant than a President’s.A President is a leader and leaders are supposed to lead by example you f.ool.Indeed you are from the ghetto, cant reason.

    • U r right that there is need for forgiveness, nomba in life it depends on who you are and the effects of your actions on people, the numbers. I bet iwe u r lucky that u hav an edution and u r not in Zed rite now. Thnk of the millions with no hope of any bright future, think of the 1000s of babies dying coz of no health care, thk of the 1000’s jobless graduates, technicians, u name them, thik of the highly underpaid civil servants all bcoz of one kafupi. Yes we o make mistakes but the consequences are far more reaching for others. Your mistakes may only be felt by mother or father not the nation. So live in your ghetto and don’t make it any worse for zambians to easily forget kafupi

  8. Before you openly display your Dullness on this site about the said Editorial, read it yourself, in fact read the whole Editorial, not just bits and pieces as ZNBC has done. It is one of the best Editorials from the Post.

    • naine napapa sana these monkeys are used to stealing peanuts! Do they think we cant read! That was a very factual editorial when the editor had a choice to remind this dead thief so many things he chose the decent route!

  9. u are liars znbcrap the editorial did none of that! There is nowhere where it makes reference to theft charges the guilty are just afraid ba ngwele imwe

  10. you may insult chiluba on this blog today and forgotten all the things that he did regarding the economy of zambia and the freedom of speech you are enjoying, may God forgive you.if you think that you are so perfect and holy, then you can condem FTJ to the grave.i appeal to you my fellow zambian, lets keep the tradition that has been passed on and give respect and allow chiluba to rest as we will go the same root sooner or later.

    • Walipena. You think this is 1960 when Zambians were trampled by the likes of you and Welenskly? Let the people speak.

    • which world do you live in where you dont know that one bad rotten deed overshadowns million goods! U also know that darkness overshadows light…so it is with the life this petty little thief led. lets live it there

  11. This article prompted me to dig deeper and find the said editorial comment. The comment was very objective and to the point. What could have excited the so called Lusaka resident denouncers is the reported fact that some issues will not die with FTJ but remain with his friends to sort out. What are those issues?………Plunder cases which someone interfered in therefore denying the Zambians a fair, legal justice. Those issues will never die

    • infact those said issues will follow the next president wen he is eventually out of office because there was everything unusual about that aquital. this is probably why they are urging peaceful zambians to forgive and forget because, guess what?we will need to do more forgiving and forgeting wen the current presdo leaves!! a precedent was set..lol

  12. These people are free to write good things about ‘Dr’ Chiluba if they think he was a great man. That is DEMOCRACY, to have a diverse number of views and not only politically correct views. I have read that editorial and it brings forward important questions that Zambians need to contemplate. Personally I feel this man betrayed the workers who put him there with all the hopes. He pushed away the big brains that were with him at the beginning and surrounded himself by Yes-men, typical African style (No offense). From there it was downhill. For those politicians embracing corruption and who think public office is a quick ticket to richness, the world will judge you harshly after you leave office. Personally I think have underestimated the degree of damage this man did. Peace

  13. This chap M’membe will never be appreciated for his stance in society as long as he keeps backing like a rbbid dog. The chap is unprincipled to an extent that he dines with wrong chaps condemned in society. Now today he wants claim to have been good to Chiluba when he is the chap who took it upon himself denouncing him to the bone. SHUT up post!

  14. LT, don’t you think in the interests of fairness and justice, you should have posted the link to the said editorial? I read it and don’t understand this butthurt. What was the Post expected to say, that Chiluba was an angel? They chose not to be hypocritical, unlike most of the reactions we have reen so far!

  15. Seriously you e-diots need to stop calling heads of state ‘father of the nation!’ It is this kind of bush rhetoric that leads to blind loyalty while the country gets robbed in broad daylight…..!Ma lubbish…..

    • Maloney well said. That’s the only part of the story that eked me as well. The are presidents period not father of the nation, fathers that steal their children’s futures maybe. Well said Malinso.

  16. I strongly feel the editorial in question was too diluted with the truth about FTJ. it simply put issues the way they are and actually respected FTJ. The fact is he was not a saint. I personally dont want my children to learn about him, let alone RB. Our future generation can not draw any inspiration from thieving leaders. Cut.

  17. these days i dont even comment much on LT they are so unprofessional. why not publish the article and let people read it and judge, just one reason; they know the article is factually correct and not hypocritical. what would have been wrong is for the post to try and paint Chiluba as saint when he never was and they did so much to bring his thieving to public attention. one’s wrong doings cannot be washed after death. the Bible says that in death there is no praising, nor worshiping and after death comes judgement. we cannot turn around start praising just cos he’s dead now. surely this is hypocrisy.

  18. The message which The Post and all PF bloggers are portraying is a clear manifestation of the ganging up of a barbaric sector of Zambian population. Mwebantu, IMFWA IKALI. Our Mbuyas the Ngoni say that “CHAONA MUZAKO CHAPITA, MAWA CHILI PAIWE”. Surely the hate sermons that PF cadres are preaching goes to show how this country would be turned into HELL in the unlikely event that their sponser Zondwa Sata became President. His tenure of office would be characterised with terror. As for Fred Mmembe, people are awaiting for the day when he must account for his role in the Zambian Airways downfall saga. Zambian Airways principal shareholders must explain where they shipped to hide money that they purportedly failed to remit to the Airport Corporation. “ALA MULANDU TAWUBOLA”.

  19. Spoiler Kapenda died spoiler Kapenda.Death will never change a thief, but will not deny a thief chances to steal any more.

  20. #20 and all those who are lazy to read, please read the editorial for yourselves to have first hand information. Dont act on impulse. No where is it written that chiluba stole this and that. rev lungu dont be a hypocrite as using the name of God in vain has costs and too much for you to bear. this is a kind warning to all those who call themselves men or women of the collar. why cant you publish the entire editorial for people to read and judge? ZNBC has been visited by IMBWA

  21. A thief is a thief even in death. I thought ZNBC is the one that reports the police have shot dead dangerous criminals at this or that place? Do they remove the thief tag? Are those people lesser humans than Chiluba?
Yes, he was our President, and it’s not me to thank/praise him. Instead it was him who was supposed to thank me for entrusting him to run my affairs on my behalf. But what did he do? Fraudulent privatisation, retrenchments, abuse of public office and resources, embezzlement/plunder. Many people died directly or indirectly due to his mismanagement. He’s dead, but US$48m from London High Court is not dead, offshore companies, assets corruptly obtained are still there to be recovered, plus US$8m in Zamtrop A/C, more than US$53m, and save our children from RB’s absurd debt.

  22. Ba MMd you are at it again. I thought the comment was fair on the side fo you thief. Rev lungu stop politicing the dwarfs funeral, dont read between the lines you MMd cadre.

  23. Please read the editorial again. Read what happened to the lady rev edith mutale. The editorial was just a warning. Shame on RB, Tekere.

  24. ZAMBIA’S LEADING NEWS PAPER ON LIES AND FABRICATION AND THE PAPER THAT DIGS DEEPER RUBBISH AND PROMOTES DIVISION

  25. Most of you here are just commenting for the sake of it and yet you never even read the editorial. Dont just follow the wind….!!! f.c.king fools.

  26. I read the editorial and i was absolutely disappointed with Membe and team, they have no human feeling and dignity, what ever differences they had with FTJ they should not bring it out when mourning a President who did a lot for the country. It goes without saying that Chiluba made a lot of mistakes but wake up and smell the coffee – so did Kaunda, Mwanawasa and even RB, the Post want to make out Chiluba as a devil and Kaunda and Mwanawasa as saints, Kaunda killed and tortured a lot of opponents, he also stole a lot of money through his sons Panji and Wezi and invested in oil rigs in The middle east, Mwanawasa was equally corrupt thats why his widow is worth over 40 million dollars today, because of dubious deals at Min of Health, Copper Sales, Petroda etc…..

  27. No sin that Chiluba committed is worse than what Kaunda or Mwanawasa did, the difference is that Chiluba’s issues where given prominence because of Mwanawasa’s foolish idea of prosecuting a former head of state who handed him the seat. Bush did a lot of Bullshit but Obama would never dare institute such proceedings against him, it would be in bad taste. We Zambians are enemies of ourselves as Mwanawasa showed when he treated Chiluba the way he did. Moi was in power for 24 years and committed a lot of atrocities, have you heard any stupid thing like what happend to Chiluba happen to him. The Kenyans have shown true respect for a former head of state.

  28. The truth is that Membe had outright hatred for Chiluba, eminating from the fact that he was not appointed to a position that his uncle Arther Wina promised him. He waged a war of hatred for Chiluba and never saw anything good in what Chiluba did. Membe himself is a dictator who has an insatiable appetite for power and will stop at nothing to get to plot one. But he can be rest assured that it won’t be in this lifetime because Zambians can’t vote for a homosexual as President, Membe was having a homosexual relationship with one of the former German ambassadors to Zambia and he shouldn’t think that Zambians don’t know.

  29. Infrastructure development, Press Freedom (More newspapers, radio and television stations), Major Improved transport sector, availability of essential commodities, no more queues, better schools and roads, more Zambians are home owners at a young age, numerous bumper harvests, liberalised economy – THANK YOU President Chiluba, we will miss you dear beloved son of Zambia and Africa. THANK YOU for declaring Zambia a Christian Nation, THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!!!!!

  30. Young blogers do not understand how long the abused press freedom has come. At the time when the darkest shadow cast over Zambia and noone would dare stand up to kick-start the road to democracy, Chiluba did. At the time when living standards were very, very poor to the extent that bare essentials were not readily available and when they did, we queued from as early as 03.00 in the morning for sugar, cooking oil, salt, tissues, bath soap(Sabina for that matter, which gave rash!),and the list goes on. No one was brave enough to openly criticise Kaunda and fight for rights of oppressed workers than Frederick Jacob Chiluba. On numerous the few that attempted to emulateFTJ where either crashed or silenced and never to seen or heard.Chiluba kept on coming charging Kaunda for draconian rule.

    • bystander well put, most of these young blogers never slept at Intercity Bus Terminus for days being harassed by vigilantes, they never queued for stale bread, they never used cooking oil as substitute for lotion, maybe non of their relatives were tortured like Valentine Mussakanya, Robert Chiluwe, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Major Chisanga, Godfrey Miyanda to mention but a few for wanting to give an alternative view to the one party participatory democracy (dictatorship).

    • Economies of African countries (perhaps with the exception of RSA and Libya before the war) cannot stand economic sanctions. The period you’re referring to, Zambia was under economic sanctions (like Zimbabwe is today) which were only lifted after the change of government in 1991. The primary objective of the sanctions, regime change, had been achieved. In short, the shortages were bound to end irrespective of who became the new President.

  31. Just ask elias Chipimo senior, detained at Chimbokaila among hard core criminals- murders etc without charge for months on end, made to eat his dinner in front of defauccating inmates. Ask Godfrey Miyanda, Heritage Party leader, detained at Mukobeko and made drink his own urine. Disappearances and mysterous deaths at the hands of Kaunda’s security apparatus were the order of day. How did the outspoken Bishop Mutale die..? Only Kaunda and his intellegence would answer that .In his speech kaunda praised his accomplishment of independence and peace as being more important than the hunger Zambian familes faced then. Chiluba responded,’Your excellence, Its not only hunger or just about peace, there is injustice in the country, Its better to have war for freedom than peace in injustice’

  32. Chipimo was made to eat his food in front of defaecating inmates. Its a shame that this tabloid, Post has chosen to ignore,( perharps a good thing) Kaunda’s misrule but elevate him to saint status. Deep down his own heart Kaunda knows how brutal his rule was. Its not surprising that the post would rather not highlight the Great Things Chiluba achieved, but attack him even in death. There is no credibilty left. Kaunda banned every private newspaper or radio that attempt to show its face. Tabloids like The Post will never have lasted a minute at the height of Kaunda’s rule! There has to be a line drawn if your credibility stands a chance of ever being restored. I doubt It!. At least try and tell the balance story of where Zambian political freedom has come from.

  33. Human beings have very short memories, it is always common that we dwell too much on the bad side of someone. It is very rare for human beings to give praise even where it is due. Dr Chiluba yes, had his own failures but at the same time he did good things which I will always live to remember. MYSRIP dad!!:(

  34. I feel sorry for the Post. Where will they find a replacement for Chiluba??? Mmembe the lawyer even forgot the principles of innocent til proven guilty. I only hope he will never proclaim it anywhere. For the people that have stood in his way Mmembe is merciless. Thanks for masses who just follow blindly and never get to read judgments or research on the so called judgments before they open their self-righteous tramps.

  35. When I heard about all the talk surrounding the Editorial Comment in the Sunday Post, I took it upon myself to look for the paper and read it for myself. To my utter disappointment and shock, I did not find any of the stuff that people are fussing about. Is there another Editorial I am not aware of, mwa? Somebody please help me. Epo mpelele.

  36. Holy God have mercy upon your children. forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Tame their tongues as you instructed in your own Words in James3:3. I pray that God your children can realise that you made us in your own image therefore we carry your characteristics. i pray that your children could STOP defaming your own image beacuse of the worldly activities that have nothing do to with savation. Holy Father, I commit those who are burdened like the family of Chiluba and those that we do not know about who have lost their dear ones, since you are omnipresent and omnicient, you know all these. I pray for syria, russia, those in yemen, libya, bharain and all those saints and enemies thru out the world. we will continue praying for peace and prosperity for this nation in Jesus Nm

  37. The fact is that The Post Newspaper is as useless a paper as #3 Curious/#4. The paper hss no morals or any journalism ethics and like Mmembe have no taste. With the late President the paper was used to destroy the legacy of a great president and the evil that you do to others shall soon catch up with you.

  38. I’m no longer positive where you’re getting your information, however good topic. I must spend a while learning much more or understanding more. Thank you for magnificent information I was in search of this info for my mission.

  39. You really make it seem so easy together with your presentation however I find this topic to be actually one thing that I think I’d by no means understand. It seems too complicated and extremely vast for me. I am taking a look ahead in your subsequent put up, I’ll attempt to get the dangle of it!
