92 year old Former Ngambela of the Barosteland, Maxwell Mututwa

FORMER prime minister of the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) Maxwell Mututwa has died.
Both Western Province Minister Richard Mwapela and family spokesperson Charles Mututwa, who is Mr Mututwa’s nephew, confirmed the death of Mr Mututwa, 92, who died on Saturday night.

The funeral of Mr Mututwa is being held in Silele Village, Chief Kakene’s area in Senanga District where he was born and lived until the time of his death.

Mr Mututwa said his uncle had not complained of any illness and before he died, he was watching television with his grandchildren until around 21:00 hours when he suddenly fell ill and died 30 minutes later.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Namangolwa, three children, 39 grandchildren and 113 great grandchildren.
The minister said the death of Mr Mututwa, who had also served as member of Parliament for Sinjembela Constituency in the UNIP government, was a big loss to the nation as he had become a fountain of wisdom, especially to the young generation.

“My appeal to the Zambian people is to emulate Mr Mututwa who in the final days of his life preached peace in the country and urged the youth not to rise against the Government,” he said.
Mr Mututwa was at the time of his death a leader of the Barotse Church.

  1. Another Lozi warrior dies without achieving the ideals of the Barotseland agreement…may his grand children get to see this in their life time with the PF government.

  2. How sad may this fountain of wisdom lay in eternal peace in the presence of god. Amen. How sad for this goverment to have harrased such a man.

  3. nabalale muchibote ba mututwa. The man was traumatised by the one month stay in prison. I think he was not himself afer he was released. He being eaten silently inside leading to his death. This governmrnt, awe sure. I wonder how many lozis will die once Bwezani is re-elected.

  4. It was the trauma from the one month illegal jail by Bwezani that finally killed the old man.

  5. After suffering so much at the hands of the MMD government surely his death will not be in vain. May God guide and strengthen his family and bless Barotseland.

  6. Have you noticed how the state media houzes have deliberately and conveniently chozen not to mention that the late Mututwa waz once arrested and detained by the government for hiz alleged involvement in the Baroste Agreement fracas not too long ago?

  7. This has nothing to do with the time he spent in prison, the man is just too old,its natural causes.
Or he might have died from strain and stress, how many 92 years olds do you see protesting and making noise like he did? That was too much for his old body.

  8. I remember we badly tortured this old man in his prison cell. We had recieved strict instructions from the HQ to handle him that way. I think this could have contributed to his death.

  9. Wish we didn’t spend so much on kafupi we could have some change to spare for the old man.you tried old man 92 isn’t bad pa zed.you were not even in a nursing home ,my heart is with your family in senanga.

  10. @Mashimba – You are 100% correct. The man has just out lived his life. @ Prisoner Warder, you are being stupid. Mututwa was just too old. 39 grand kids and 113 great grand kids.It is always about politics. Your own relative died at 20 or 15 years, what happened? Prison?

  11. What do you mean by asking “how long did you want him to live” what’s wrong with 101 years.I know you are pa zed where 66 is an achievement but we can stil aim higher bane.

  13. My condolence to his family. He should have not been sent to prison. still he died a good note. GRZ should proclaim a one day of national mourning for him being a former ngambela.
