The opposition United Party for National Development on the Copperbelt has called on police to immediately arrest Kitwe Mayor Elias Kamanga for alleged abuse of authority of his office.

UPND Copperbelt Spokesperson Kennedy Kalunga says it is unacceptable for Mr. Kamanga to illegally release fuel from the council account.

Mr. Kalunga has described the act as daylight robbery and called on police to immediately arrest Mr Kamanga.

This is contained in a statement made available to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

Police in Kitwe yesterday recorded a warn-and-caution statement from Kitwe mayor Elias Kamanga in connection with allegations that he refuelled Patrick Mwanawasa’s vehicle with 73.4 litres of petrol worth K 635,000 on a council account.

The MMD Copperbelt Task Force and Kitwe City Council have filed official complaints at Riverside police station on Mr Kamanga’s alleged theft of fuel from the government.
Mr Kamanga and police sources confirmed the mayor’s questioning in separate interviews in Kitwe yesterday.

Mr Kamanga arrived at Riverside police station at 14:00 hours in the company of his lawyer, where police officers recorded a warn-and-caution statement from him.

Firsst start with the arrest of all MMD officials using Govt. vehicles for MMD campaigns,Dora Siliya for insulting Catholics,William Tekere Banda for threatening violence during FTJ”s funeral and for threatening the use of juju in Chongwe. The you can also arrest Geoge Kunda over the failed constitution.This will be very fair before you can arrest Mayor Kamanga…NO SELECTIVITY we’re all equal!!!

It is no justification for us to arrest the government officials. Every dog has its own day and ubuchenjeshi bwa nkoko pungwa tasakamana. This chap has just has be arrested so as to set an example to all the other offenders. There is nothing like even government officers are doing the same. Mwai wamuzako sagonela panja. The withdraw of the car from the kitwe mayor means that Kamanga is back to square 1 of walking on foot from Ndeke township to town every day. You see why we want only reach pipo to be in politics. They can steal and abuse power as much as a poor men like kamanga

Ist interesting to see for a change PF cadres on the defence, You feel how MMD has been feeling for the past 20 yrs, the least opportunity of power the people gave you, you hvae abused power. In lusaka the mayor and concillors sold land to each other illegally. Now imagine if PF were given the nation to run ….
