South African High Commissioner to Zambia, Mr Chikane, has called on all political stakeholders to dialogue and work towards maintaining peace in the run up to the elections. He said Zambia should maintain the peace it has been renowned for and for which the AU stands for.
Meanwhile Opposition parties have denounced the ECZ for not liaising with them on the choice of a South African company to print ballot papers and have asked it to furnish them with full details about the company in the interest of transparency and confidence building.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) last week announced that it had awarded Universal Print Group Limited of Durban South Africa,a tender to print ballot paper booklets and nomination forms for the 2011 tripartite elections.
ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna said the tender was awarded to Universal Print Group after fulfilling all the tender requirements.
He said the award of the tender followed invitations by the commission of sealed bids from interested bidders through open tender procedures for the supply and delivery of ballot paper and nomination forms in April this year.
Mr. Akufuna said the tender was advertised in the print media for four weeks.
Universal Print of South Africa was also contracted to print the 2006 General elections and the 2008 Presidential elections.
Rigging has started bane but this year tukamikata
Why wasent a zambian printer given the contract for empowerment and security reasons as all stake holders can better verify prints when they are done locally for logistical reasons ?. To begin with, just know that some one is chewing from this contract and 2ndly transparency can not be claimed. MMD, no matter which tricks you try be it delaying the date of our freedom or undercover printing or blanket propaganda on ZNBC or last ditch development with borrowed manee, the pipo have had enough. Just start packing and prepare for court cases.
You mean Zambian Companies cannot print the ballot papers? What technology is required? When will you trust and empower your own Zambian Companies?
Just Watchout for Mr Mwanga the chief rigger, don’t allow him to travel to South Africa in this time.
let Mwaanga travel, we’ll just bomb the plane, though I think he’ll die before elections since he’s quite sick.
Maybe that’s why buffoon RB is holding out announcing the election date as he waiting for word from Mwanga’s doctor whether he will make it till the November!!lool!
The danger in Africa is that aFRICAN LEADERS DO’T SUPPORT AND SIDE WITH THEIR CITEZENS, INSTEAD THEY TALK AND INCLINE TOWARDS THEIR FELLOW LEADERS WHO ARE IN GOVERNMENT.
THE HIGH COMMISSIONER MUST ADVISE THE ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT ,NOT THE OPPOSITION, TO BE TRANSPARENT IN THE WAY ECZ AND THE ELECTIONS ARE MANAGED AND CONDUCTED -BEFORE,DURING AND AFTER ELECTIONS.
EVEN IF THE GOVERNMENT KILLS OR CORRUPTS IT’S OWN CITIZENS OR ABUSES GOVERNMENT RESOURCES FOR THE SAKE OF HOLDING ON TO POWER ,FELLOW AFRICAN PRESIDENTS WILL WORK TO COVER THE EVILS OF THEIR FELLOW AFRICAN PRESIDENTS.
MR SA high commissioner tell RB/ECZ TO ACCEPT DIALOGUE, AS YOU SAY ,BECAUSE THE OPPOSITION HAS BEEN AND IS STILL CALLING FOR IT.
NO ONE NEW FOR SURE THAT ONE DAY THERE WILL BE MIDDLE EAST VOLCANO. BUT STILL THE SAME AFRICAN LEADERS WERE ADVOCATING FOR DICTATORIAL AFRICAN LEADERSHIP UNDER GADAFI,WHO IS NOW KILLING AND PREPARING TO BOMB TRIPOLI FOR HIS AND FAMMILY’S HOLD TO POWER.Â
The opposition should not blame ECZ for contracting Universal Printing as it is the same co. which did so in 2006. All they should do is like in the past where all stakeholders sent their representatives to monitor the process of printing up to delivery of elections material to ECZ and subsquent distribution to all district centres. The opposition should not start crying over printing. In fact its the oppostions lack of confidence in the Govt Printer and local printing firms which has prompted work being contracted outside. The opposition should be alert if they suspecting that MMD may start the rigging process from Durban. This is time for all stakeholder sto put in place monitoring mechanisms so that the chances of rigging are minimised if at they are. Its our election and must vote wise
Is Catherine Namugala married? If not who is her boyfriend? Please someone answer me.
Look at this w@nker….please go and have a cold shower son!!
There will be no rigging. The only time Zambia ever experienced electoral rigging was during the one-party state when Kaunda used to force Zambians to choose between an Eagle and a Frog, or between him and a Frog or a snake. Since 1991 it is only bad losers who always come back crying vote rigging when they lose. Elections have never been rigged. Even Mwaanga, so-called chief rigger, you are giving him credit of cleverness that he doesn’t have. Presidents bring Mwaanga in because they think it is one way of getting atleast part of Southern votes. Stop blaming vote rigging and instead re-examine your campaign strategies. Do you think RB needs rigging to beat finished chaps like Sata?? Anybody can beat Sata.

Man, a coward hyena lives longer. I m sure this will make your day he ha he ke ke ke
How can you outsource printing of mere ballot papers…a ballot paper has only one colour; black ….buffoon RB has to go!!
Mr Commissioner best you keep quiet because your county is benefiting massively….
Is it impossible for this country to build capacities and security systems that would make it acceptable to print ballot documents locally, and save for itself billions of Kwacha? Essewntial in the process of building that capacity would be an ECZ with unquestionable integrity and full confidence from the general citizenry and the interested parties.
Since when did political parties assume the role of the tender board?
If we can’t print our own ballot papers, & can’t support our own industries, it just goes to show where priorities lie!! Sign off contracts in $ & get kick backs from the foreign contractors, becoz it is not easy to track such deals.
Another Egypt scenario in the making. No rigging this time!!!Â
