Government has handed over 88 flats to the university Teaching Hospital UTH and the Cancer diseases hospital which have been constructed at a cost of over 18.6 billion Kwacha.

A total of 24 two bedroomed flats and 64 one bedroomed flats have been completed and are ready for occupation.

Minister of health Kapembwa Simbao who handed over the flats for doctors, nurses and paramedics says the flats will ease accommodation shortages for medical personnel.

Mr Simbao says government is also constructing 112 flats for medical staff in, Kitwe, Chipata, Solwezi, and Mansa and in Ndola at Ndola Central Hospital and Arthur Davison Children’s hospital.

The minister says the new flats constructed in some parts of the country are part of governments programme to ensure that medical staff have decent accommodation.

Mr Simbao says a plan is already in place to ensure that over three hundred flats will be constructed to provide immediate accommodation for graduating health workers across the country.

And acting principal, University Teaching hospital Nursing education officer Beatrice Zulu says the hospital has over the years been facing accommodation problems which has affected the performance of workers.

Mrs Zulu says the provision of accommodation close to the hospital will reduce late coming and motivate members of staff.

Mr Simbao has also handed over a classroom block and a library to the school of nursing at UTH.

  1. Why should it be just before elections where did the govt go all this time now we can easily see the corruption in this govt

    • I CAN NOW SEE THAT U DNT KNW WOTS GOIN ON IN ZANBIA. THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN THERE FOR SOME YEARS NOW ITS COMPLETED.

  2. EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING AT 11TH HOUR BUT IT WILL NOT CHANGE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE WHO JUST WANTS A CHANGE.

  3. whether 11th hr or last minute, this has never happened before in zambia. Well done MMD. The uneducated short sighted kaponyas will learn with time. Education is not a joke!

    • If the country was full of people like you there would really be a disaster. People who see with their eyes and cant think with their brains. You think removing clauses that deal with people who misuse government finances is doing Zambia any good? Soon you will not be saying WELL DONE unless if you will be talking about how much money has been stolen. Wake up.

  4. Nobody needs a goverment flat now! pay them well enough to afford morgages, the problem I see, is that in five years time, the same flats will be given away as a campgain gimmic at K3 million by another presidential candidate and every thing will go back to square one, it is all part of the corruption syndrome!

  5. What 11th hour are you kaponyas talking about? So you think that the construction of these flats started last week and finished today so that MMD can get votes? This is something government has been working on for years. You don’t pause developmental projects just because you have elections. Just admit that RB is doing a great job.

  6. sometimes if we really think about our country’s future .HH could be the best man for this year to rule our country . Its just too bad we lost the best of all Mazoka . These sata and RB should just leave zambian people alone . we dont need these ols people to lead us again

  7. They please you at the last minute. As soon as they are in power they concentrate on lining their own pockets. Zambians, I hope you are not taking this band-aid therapy. The wound is in deep tissue.

  8. SMH…I wouldn’t be surprised if RB turned up next week and started giving these same houses to sitting tenants in the name of empowerment!!LOL!

  9. You have a point #5 Mwaba but i beg to differ with you when you say “just admit that RB is doing a good job”. You have rightly stated that “this is something government has been working on for five years”. How then is it RB’s good job since he has only been president for three years. Would I been wrong to state that this is rather LPM’s good job.

    • I don’t see anywhere #5 mentioned ‘5 years,’ Rather he said, the government had been carrying out the project for years.

  10.   On average the cost of each unit is 210 million kwacha. How feasible is this, if those of you living in Lusaka If the government is to house every employee at this cost we might need 210 million dollars. This is neither sustainable nor consistent with true capitalism. I guess I understand why Sata and the PF use the donch Kubeba slogan. They understand that they are working against a vision-less propaganda filled opposition.

  11. Hope these flats will not be given to none medical and nursing staff who are connected to relatives in management.Well done MMD you trully deserve another five solid years in power so that you can continue to transform this country called Zambia.Viva RB,Viva MMD

  12. we should stop blaming politicians 100% sometimes . we zambians have no business minds . we just always relying on the government. if we become strong in making money by ourselves then we can control the politicians. we have so much resource but we are still the poorest continent . the western and asians are laughing at us . if africa belonged to the western or asians  i dont know what could happen today. we have a very bad mentality of begging all the time. western and asians are not our relatives or parents . even our government the same beggar

  13. The gvmnt controls our resources & its thru those resource were we get our money from, if those resources are been mismanaged then we all get affected.
Zambia depends mainly on copper, the gvmnt doesn’t manage well the sales of copper & what they suppose to benefit from, if copper was stopped mining could Zambian survive? No
We need to make sure these guys in gvmnt do there job well for all to benefit, that why we concentrate so much on these guys.

  14. Gentlemen let’s not critisise for the sake of it. Where a credit is due, lets award it. I have been seeing that bare land near the mortuary at UTH since time immomerial. Now the government has conctructed some flats for the medical personnel it has become a political issue? Whether this has concided with the election period or not, Bravo its a job well done!!!!! That’s what we want as citizens. I’m neither PF nor MMD. I belong to the Red Cross society!!!!

  15. This is very funny, MOH has houses eg in Chainama which are in deplorable state ie never been maintained, but they can afford to build new flats?
What type of management is this?
What happened to the house loan scheme simbao announced some time back? was it another trick?

  16. THE PROBLEM WITH US ZAMBIANS THAT WE ARE EASILY DECEIVED BY PEOPLE WHO ARE PROMISING TO BUILD HIGH SCHOOLS EVERY KILOMETER AND TURN ALL TRADE SCHOOLS INTO UNIVERSITIES.WHETHER IT IS ELECTIONS THIS YEAR OR NOT THE GOVT. OF THE DAY HAS TO CONTINUE DELIVERING.THE COUNTRY CAN’T COME TO A STAND STILL BECAUSE IT’S ELECTIONS OR IS IT JEALOUS THAT YOUR COLLEAGUES WILL BE STAYING IN NEW FLATS?

  17. Why can’t the government carry building houses across the country for everyone other than a select group. Govt should now introduce a law against over crowding, and have houses built on large scales nationwide to combat disease like TB and malaria which are easily passed on due to over crowding. Malaria is rampant in cities than it is in rural areas this is due to stagnant filty water and rubbish hips thrown from shanties. Zambia is vast and wide, use the idle land and build houses. Get engineers from Israel or China to build proper structures and fire the lot at NHA

  18. Building 2 bed flat for nurses and doctors is a laugh. Zambia has lots of empty land. Build houses man. Build proper houses and encourage nurses and doctors to work in Zambia. Use the lazy NHA. Have policies and strategies in place and use this opportunty to build houses for rent and to sell. The NHA staff are so idle they cannot see where the market is going, fire the lot and hire proper civic design staff and qualified architects and civil engineers. NHA website doesn’t even run. Homenet and Knight Franks have better website designs, can’t the NHA learn from these people?
