State House dismisses reports by Post Newspaper on Wa Mutharika

Share

FLASHBACK: President Rupiah Banda embraces his Malawian counterpart Bingu Wa Mutarika at Lusaka international airport

State House has dismissed reports that Malawian President Bingu Wa Mutharika has been invited to open the 85th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere says he is not aware of any invitation to any foreign head of state to officiate at the show.

He says the statement by Former Patriotic Front Member of Parliament Given Lubinda is misleading.

Mr Jere says records are available at the ministry of foreign affairs to prove that the President did not invite any foreign head of state to officiate at the show.

He says it is unfortunate that the PF has decided to conduct a malicious campaign and statements about President Banda and his Malawian counterpart whose country has enjoyed long standing warm relations with Zambia dating back to pre-independence days.

Mr Jere has also clarified that the decision by President Banda not to invite President Mutharika or any other head of state has nothing to do with recent disturbances in Malawi.

He told ZNBC News that the President had issued a statement that he will officiate at the Agricultural and Commercial shows in Kitwe and Lusaka as well as the Trade Fair in Ndola.

The Post Newspaper has published a lie from former Kabwata PF Member of Parliament that the Malawian president is in the country to officially open the Agricultural and Commercial show in Lusaka.

And President Rupiah Banda Saturday morning toured stands at the on-going 85th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial show in Lusaka.

President Banda who arrived in the showground’s shortly after 10 hours and was met by Show Society officials and Deputy Secretary to cabinet Evans Chibiliti.

Some of the stands the President toured included Jubilee hall where several small scale farmers are exhibiting, Diary Association of Zambia, and ZANACO bank.

During his tour President Banda was accompanied by Agriculture Permanent Secretary Abednigo Banda and his counterpart at the Ministry of livestock Professor Isaac Phiri.

And President Banda took time to interact with show goers that wanted to have a glimpse of him.

President Banda made several stopovers to shake hands with people who included the young and the old.

  1. despicable desperation by PF. even the statement sata makes that RB is responsible for the body he found. I cant put it past sata to have placed it there himself, ataa!

  2. No.1: You are very wrong, pls read throught the lines. Kenneth Kaunda/Bwezani and Wamutharika are all one and the same. They are foreigners; Malawians! They believe in politics of intimidation, persecussions and will rule with an iron fist. Even if we do not have what it takes to be a good leader (in Sata), lets embrace his ideals for now and perhaps sort our problems later because what he stands for is Zambian ideology. Some of us who where there in 1991 understand Zambian politics beta than you new commers who think that, what Bwezani says and does is just, far from it. Unless you are not Zambian yourself, you will always reap trouble…

    • # 2 I take it you are not shy of objective analysis. What does sata have that predisposes him to change his wicked ways (assuming as some want us believe that sata HAS CHANGED from his panga wielding days in chawama and intimidation of opposing views as evident during SAD (3rd) Term saga) that Rupia doesnt? In fact Rupia has shown in the time he has been President that he can improve. Sata is not a saint as he wants us to believe and neither is Rupia. Look at how Sata has changed an isolated accident and cunning found a way of having Rupia to blame, whats that to you? And what value does being Malawian bring to this debate? Be logical and objective, thats all.

  3. Bakabwa aba ba Namakando Mmembe. Wa Mutarika is nowhere to be seen in Zambia and these phools have no shame in lying through their teeth. Shame on you h.om.osexual Namakando and your Pa Fwaka bed partners.

  5. @2 Chumbu or ichipushi whatever your name is, if you were there in 1991 you would know what Mr Sata is and what the Post was. Just for once, can’t you PF guys and your leader divorce yourselves from lies and deception, just this once please?

  6. You people you wont stop to amza me…you konw what, I think I should defect to PF as every one talks about SATA….I didn’t know that Sata is a factor on zambian politics as I took him to bE A Jocker…I m now PF and I have rescinded my earlier decision of not voting..

  7. The level to which Mmembe has reduced the once respected Post is shocking! It is no longer intellectually stimulating, you would think that it is now edited at Kulima tower bus stop.

  8. Shameless Presidents both Zambia and Malawi. Malawian are living in poverty whilst their president is travelling to zambia for non benefitiacial business except to help his friend win elections. Every country has to remember that the elected are there for the people and not for their own benefit. Banda and his friend are in politics for their own gain and do not think about the poor people around them. the earlier the zambian people ger rid of Banda the better for them.

  9. Just look at how this country is now swamped by illegal Malawans masquerading as Zambians, they are all over: “During his tour President Banda was accompanied by Agriculture Permanent Secretary Abednigo Banda and his counterpart at the Ministry of livestock Professor Isaac Phiri”. Awe sure “fi Nyasa fya fulisha saana in Zambia!”

  10. There is your most credible newspaper in the world. PF fans must be very happy now since Mbingu Wa Mtharika has opened the Agriculture Show!

Namakando thinks he is the Rupert Murdoch of Zambia. In the developed world this creep will just be newspaper vendor at the best.

  11. Why should adults lie? What has gone wrong for a f.ool like Given to simply deteriorate to a level of becoming an even bigger f.ool? It is shameful to lie, and lies of such nature are better left to homosexual namakando and his pf photo album. For a leader to resort to blatant lies, its a clear act of inquesrionable desperation.

  12. be objective in your reporting in order to defend the reputation of ur paper.politicians have their own agendas which u as a source of reliable data shd not blindly espouse.

  14. PF leaders are full of oral diarrhoea.
You have seven weeks to tell us your policies and only a few days to unveil you parliamentary candidates. They yap all the time like they forever want to be in opposition then into oblivion.

  16. I always looked at Given Lubinda as a person who would take over the reigns of Pantu Fyandi (PF) once the Tanzanian kingpin decided to call it quits. I was wrong. He’s supposed to be selling his party programme to the electorate and not waste time on peddling lies.

  17. Clearly Given has absolutely no sense of shame! A little gratuity in the pocket and he has taken leave of his thinking. Ba Given.

  18. ECZ sets August 7 to 10 as nomination for presidential candidates and 12 August 2011 for MPs and local government candidates.

  19. The short and the long of this all is: IS THIS MALAWIAN THUG BINGU WA MUTHARIKA IN ZAMBIA? Period! Why should he come to Zambia to open a show or visit when there is no functional government in Zambia? May be LAZ must enlighten us!

  20. Chumbu you thinking worries me a lot. I do not want to debate the nationality of Rupiah and Kaunda because as things stand now they are both Zambians. Are you saying even if when no that Ba Sata will be a problem at State house we should take him there in order to remove MMD and then deal with him later. How do you propose we do this considering the fact that leaders become so power once they are at plot one? I recommend to you HH instead of Ba Sata. It will be easy to throw HH once he fails than Ba Sata. Please rethink your stand on Ba Sata and HH. Personally between Ba Sata and HH I am for HH. Between Rupiah and Ba Sata. I am for Rupiah because I find him more reasonable than Ba Sata despite his tendencies for not being straight through his sons. Go HHHHHHHHHHH.

  21. sata had the discovered body and put it there. why does he always want to be noticed? he cant do a good deed quietly yet claims to be a christian? Christian preach that what the left hand gives, the right hand shouldnt know. shame

  22. Zambia denies inviting Bingu to Lusaka
    By Nyasa Times
    Published: July 30, 2011
Zambia’s President Rupiah Banda has denied inviting embattled Malawian leader Bingu Wa Mutharika to Lusaka at the weekend.
President Mutharika, in power since 2004, is under unprecedented pressure from Malawians after the July 20 street demonstrations that left 18 people dead, several injured while others arrested as his compatriots protested against his rule.
“It must be put on record that President Banda’s decision not to invite President Mutharika, or indeed any other Head of State, has nothing to do with the recent disturbances in Malawi,” stated Dickson Jere, the spokesperson of the Zambian ruler, in a media release.
Some Zambian media houses carried the story.

  23. Jere stop lying, Mutharika is in Lsk!!! Problem is you are embarrassed, thus hiding him & reason for his visit – or is it that both are trying to arrange ASYLUM PLANS in case things go awry for either of them?????

  24. #Bragadacio, We Zambians have never had a case of asylum for any former President. They have all lived in Zambia and this gives us great pride. Why should Rupia seek asylum? What crime has he committed? Please let us blog with brains not buttocks. Those with memory will recall the same Sata in 1991 claiming that Kaunda had weapons at Sindamisale to wage a civil war. The man will never change and his supporters imitate him.[-(

  25. We know why the the to be fromer presdio of malawi is comming. RB and his clan
have arwared major road works contrcts to RBs relaties namely throu his brother law. Names and details arewill be avalible.

  26. #28 I see your point, you telling me you’ve got your head stuck in between your buttocks??Good Heavens how did that happen?? Were you trying to sharpen your a.s.s licking technique???

  27. The media institutions in Africa should pick a leaf from events that led to the downfall of a popular British newspaper, “News of the World”. Advice to Mmembe’s Post Management: If their journalist picked this story of Wamutarika’s opening of the Agricultural Shaw from ChaChaCha Street, the Management Staff should have phoned State House to seek verification. Publishing unverified sensational news will lead to the downfall of the The Post – especially after the 2011 election when their idol formally fails to win the Presidential race. When Sata loses the 2011 election to either Elias Chipimo, HH, Magande, Milupi, RB or Tilyenji, many readers will refuse to read the Post. This will be the demise of this unprofessional tabloid.

  28. Whatever the case may be, Zambians must be vigilant and watch Mutharika’s movements and activities during this election period. Remember, he thanked Rupiah Banda for helping him win elections in his country, so payback time is now!

  29. now i andastand why sata is ahead on the political scene, some dull and stupid bloggers cant seem to read what was in the paper right. GL said president RB has invited mbingu to officiate at this year’s ACS,not that he is in zambia already.

  30. No #2 Chumbu munshululwa ,
Do you have facts that these people you have emntioned are foreigners or its media influence? Please write facts here and not hearsay from the shinda paper that lies deeper ok. Dont get bark, tuck in your brown teeth

  31. President Banda made several stopovers to shake hands with people who included the young and the old. This is interesting news; ZNBC no longer has better words or enticing words. So who cares whether he greets babies, old pipo or goats at the show why now not last year. sis
