Opposition National Movement for Progress (NMP) aspiring local government and parliamentary candidates in Solwezi on Thursday caused laughter when they failed to pronounce the name of their party.
This was during a briefing for aspiring candidates for both local government and national assembly held in the Boma conference hall in Solwezi.
The local government and one parliamentary candidates for Solwezi central constituency sent the gathering into laughter when they failed to pronounce the initials NMP on which they are contesting and opted to refer to it as Magande party.
Mr “Ng’andu” Magande who is former Finance Minister, is the President of the National Movement for Progress Party – NMP, which the candidates failed to spell out.
And addressing the candidates from five different political parties, Solwezi Central Constituency returning officer Mwiya Mwiya appealed to political parties to respect the electoral code of conduct.
The candidates were from Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), Patriotic Front (PF), and United Party for National Development (UPND), Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and NMP.
Mr. Mwiya, who is Solwezi Municipal council director of administration, said a system that will prevent violence during nominations is being devised.
He says one of the measures put in place to prevent violence is not allowing political party members to use the same routes.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set August 12, 2011 as a day for filing in of nominations for national assembly and local government seats in the September 20th tripartite elections.

I think the men were correct too. It’s Magande Party and the man is selfish. He should have joined either UPND or PF. Now his thinking is exactly like Miyanda. Moreover such thinking can bring these two guys together.
