The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has condemned President Rupiah Banda’s public attacks on Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo the Second of the Soli people of Chongwe district.
Speaking in an interview with Qfm in Lusaka today, SACCORD Executive Director Lee Habasonda said it was not necessary for President Banda to denounce Chieftainess Nkomeshya at a public rally.
Mr. Habasonda says the President should have used other avenues to resolve his differences with the traditional leader.
He says traditional leaders in the country should not be drawn into political campaigns adding that they deserve to be respected.
The SACCORD Executive Director explains that it is surprising at how Chieftainess Nkomeshya has been criticized for her stance to rally behind the opposition when other traditional leaders who have publicly declared their support for the ruling party have not been victimized in any way.
He says people’s preferences have to be respected and further urges Zambians to remain calm and commit to peace in this year%u2019s general elections.
QFM
So this guy thinks its ok for the Nkomeshya to victimise and intimidate people in Chongwe who do not share her political views? Surely, the very serious allegation of victimisation on the part of chieftainess can not be swept under the carpet just like the threat of ethnic cleansing and genocide was conveniently ignored by those in support of the so called ‘Barotse uprising’.
Nkomesha did not victimise anyone in her chiefdom. These are tricky politics MMD uses to show people that they command support. Let those chiefs come out and challenge the chieftainess. Brown envelopes in play. Those chiefs survive on brown envelopes. I wish umwine lol ubemba can get something from this woman of substance. Power to people
An elder who does not respect themselves deserves no respect. She could have met RB and aired her grievances and continued to urge her ‘subjects’ not to vote for MMD if she so willed..I cannot think of a time the Queen has refused to meet a Prime Minister she might disapprove of some of his actions but grace does not desert her in the manner it has deserted this our mother..Nkomesha has openned a pandoras box which she will have great difficulty to close..her life has been an open closed box until now but now its ready to spews over and she has only herself to blame …..she has a right to vote for PF or UPND but she needs to do so with grace..13 days to go we shall know the truth.
Even if nkomeshya is in the wrong, RB being the republican president should learn to think before opening his mouth!! typical of african leaders who are only bent on insulting and calling eacth other names..take a leaf from western leaders, they only talk developmental issues!!
#4 RB did not insult anybody. He just reminded Nkomeshya of the fact that people in Chongwe have the right to support any political party without fear of intimidation. Please, you are a supporter of pf, so dont bring up the issue of leaders using insults if you dont want to embarrass yourself.
hehehe! ati mwakamba ka..sorry man, i dont support any political party! no one is worth to be zambia’s president! old reclyed policians, aint no time for that!!!
Ba Habasonda if you have nothing to say, just shut it ayi.
Habasonda misrepresented himself in the matter and confused his own thought.
Habasonda says:
“The SACCORD Executive Director explains that it is surprising at how Chieftainess Nkomeshya has been criticized for her stance to rally behind the opposition when other traditional leaders who have publicly declared their support for the ruling party have not been victimized in any way.”
Now, Habasonda missed his logic when making the comparison
The issue of chiefs supporting MMD or any other party is not the focus in this matter.
Any Chief or chieftainess is free to support any candidate or her choice.
But the problem is if the chief or chieftainess will not tolerate other people with other preferences from hers and victimize them.
So the comparison Habasonda is making is misplaced.
The problem with Nkomesha is not because she supported opposition but it is because she threatened to victimize those who do not support the party of her choice.
That is where the problem is – stopping others and threatening punishment if the pursued their choices as long as their choices differed from Nkomesha’s choice.
That is what RB said was wrong, and that she does not have the right to stop anyone from supporting whoever they wanted to.
I must say that what RB said should have been said at a different forum than a public rally, NOT that it was wrong to say so but probably place and time.
We will be creating an undemocratic society if we will encourage our chiefs to victimize subjects based on their pursuit of different political choices – this should not be allowed.
what about Mwata Kazembe in Luapula who threatens his subjects for supporting PF in preference to MMD? Chiwamina Galu!
Ba fee more fee more, what about the luapula chiefs who are threatening there subjects if the voted for PF? can RBish also say something on this?
@ 1,3,5, 7, 8 Great comments.
Long gone are the days when chiefdoms were literally (families) clans… Today people from everywhere, with independent minds live together “under” chief “Lusaka”
There should be fair play in all angels ,especially from leaders. How can a president speak like a fool.He needs to control his mouth too.He is running a very respected office that does not allow him to be a bully. Why can’t he use the same language to Chiti mukulu and all those guys in Luapula?Paranoids
This is RICH coming from a dictator of SACCORD like Mr. Habasonda:((
RB matole yakwe, he should learn to respect other people
Habasonda, yamu njokola njala yamabisi
Donchi Kubeba. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Lady Gaga #9 you are very right. Why should RB pick on Chieftainess Nkomeshya. Why didn’t he condemn the Luapula chiefs? This is selfishness of the highest order. Today it is Nkomeshya and tomorrow he will turn his wrath on another chief who will dare to voice out his grievances against the MMD government. Does he want chiefs to be his mere eunuchs? Zambia is not Malawi’s Kamuzu Banda.
Its like you propose love to a woman and offers expensive gifts, if she refuses, you dont start insulting her, you just swallow your pride, move on with your tail between your legs and try your luck with another woman. That is what RB has failed to do. Nkomeshya is hard and principled and cannot be bought by brown envelopes.
@14, I meant to say “Zambia is not Kamuzu Banda’s Malawi”.
What of Luapula chiefs u MMD vuvuzelas??????????? anyway in donci………………..
RB did not err in any way and never ever did he say he will dethrone her! ba post..nonsense!!
learn to reason before you speak, some of you are contributing has if you have just come to Zambia. who told you than Nkomesha was intimidating her subjects? this was just cooked.
MMD foooooooooooools why do you always want to support wrong things? Chi RB said it he will dethrone her, the chietness just didnt want to see this animal & devil called RB. Who said she refused pipo from voting other parties.
Shame on you bakolwe, dont just support fooolishly even wrong wrong things niwe ukachula 5 years.
Every erudite and reasoning zambian must know how hard The Post endeavours to dramatise small small things to indoctrinate the people according to their wish- that of causing wide hatred for MMD and RB.Up now I fail to see how some of these people who are actually educated can’t see the subjectivism of the Post. The paper has become boring because most of the stuff you find written are the feelings of Namakando Mmembe;not news. The hate and pain of Mmembe in the post is clear and one can’t say it’s an objective paper.I wonder how a man with a sick ego like Namakando can sway people’s understanding ! Out of wedlock he was indeed born thus he knows no parental love…thus he can’t love anyone …..
Learned people who support sata do so deliberately hoping that if sata wins[a pipe dream] they would be given positions and take advantage of sata’s foolishness and economic ignorance to engage in corrupt activities under his nose. I do not see any reason really because any sane and well meaning zambian can’t vote for sata. And people of zambia please reason….There is a reason why sata is not a God’s favourite. He is simply not the rght material for the position one in our country. He is sick both physicall and mentally. Those who are honest that have come close to him can attest to this.He thinks using his groin and is quick to do so when he sees a woman. Is it any woneder that masebo is now on the campaign trails that he makes?
And Rb has already won these elections. So the strategy the PF have devised is to put into the the minds of the people that if PF does not win it means elections have been rigged and hope that they will incite the people to riot. Very poor political calculation. Zambia has always been a democracy of some sort and more so after 1991. So what obtained in Ivory Coast , Egypt, Tunisia and now Lybia because we have always be blesseed with the opportunity to elect leaders of our choice.Simple logic is that the man who wins [in this case RB] will have a majority. And as long as the majority say no to sata the few *****s who want to make noise will not succeed…..Sata must prepare for a big time stroke not like the one his wife suffered from….
Habasonda tho u r almost my name sake shut up u not clean chap.We will c u afta 20 with your ka chieftainess.RB NAFUTI NAFUTI.
Waisting time with bapompwe…. All these literates who are supporting RB are not genuine supporters but rather worried that should they allow King Cobra to win this election their sources of cash for tujilijili and concubines will be sealed for the benefit of the poor. Continue troubling yourselves by twisting things it wont help you. People have already made up their minds…… Its Mwamukolooo…. Look at how your VP was humiliated in Mongu……. All in the name of supporting and shielding RB…….. Shame!!!!!!!!!\:d/
Let us not even waste our breath on these *****s who think mwamukolo is wining, the truth is mukolo wa tiba la 20/9, RB, feela, nafut nafuti nafuti chwelaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
