RESIDENTS in Lusaka have said they are enjoying first-class healthcare delivery at the recently-commissioned Lusaka General Hospital.

The residents who thanked President Rupiah Banda in random interviews at the new facility said the hospital had enabled them access quality healthcare within their localities. Ruth Chilufya, who delivered her child in the early hours of yesterday, said the staff at the institution were professional and efficient in attending to patients.

Ms Chilufya said the rate of infant mortality in the country will reduce because of Government’s interventions in the health sector. “I am happy with what I have seen here. It is beautiful and the service is excellent,” Ms Chilufya said.

Mulenga Njavwa expressed gratitude to the Government for considering the people especially those from Chongwe who now frequented the hospital because of its proximity. He said Chongwe residents were happy that a hospital which boasted of ultra modern equipment had been brought to their door steps.

I am happy that we have such a big hospital at our door steps, we don’t have to go all the way to UTH now,” Mr Njavwa. Andrew Chali said the new hospital was truly a sign that the Government was committed to ensuring that health services were taken to the people as close as possible.

Mr Chali said president Banda should be given chance to govern the nation so that more hospitals and clinics can be constructed in all the districts to beef up the existing ones.

Hospital medical superintendent John Kachemba said so far the hospital had attended to over one thousand patients in the two months it has been in operation and has performed over 97 operations.

He said the second line hospital was fully operational with all the departments having been adequately staffed.

Dr Kachemba said the hospital offered both surgical and medical services with all the critical departments boasting of the latest equipment in the treatment of various ailments. “We have a bed capacity of up to 159 and have the latest state of the art facilities in terms of equipment in all the departments,” Dr Kachemba said.

He said most of the clients at the hospital were from the surrounding areas which included Munali, Mutendere, Chelstone and Chongwe. Dr Kachemba said the operations were going on smoothly with a steady flow of patients.

  1. point of correction ba LT  don’t say “lusaka residents” but say “some lusaka resident”,the philosophy of generalisation yakale.am a lusaka resident but am not cheered over that new hospital.

  2. LT is no different from chanda chimba’s stand up for zambia paper. Just last week I escorted my friend’s father in law for admission at the Lsk Gen Hosp, to my suprise we were refered to chainama hospital. Seeing is believing! So what first class service are you talking about.Don’t tell lies in broad day light. the chinese constructors are still constructing the hospital fittings despite being commisioned over 2 months ago. No amount of propanda will change the mood in the nation.

  3. I saw graders still working at the new hospital n it looked closed. Levy started that hospital n he should be credited 4 it. Hope they don’t close the hospital on 21st September

  4. Sata is collapsing because he has already seen that he has no chance of winning these elections. These are a prelude to what is to come after 20 September…….Everlasting sleep for PF leader.

  5. Lets learn to give credit where it is due,RB and MMD has really delivered, thats why they are going through once again with a landslide victory.

  6. Nafuti Nafuti. Service to all Zambians by the President for all Zambians. H.E.Rupiah Bwezani Banda. Iam sure Satanists are seeing for themselves. Chweeechweee chweeeeeeeeeeeeee

  7. Are some patients enjoying the smell of new paint or service? For instance what peculiar services has this clinic offered that old ones don’t? There are no doctors in Zambia as we all know that they is plan for health systems under MMD. This is nothing and will not mean anything to a voter!! DONCHI KUBEBA is coming very soon…

  8. Ignore my earlier posting. Are some patients enjoying the smell of new paint or service? For instance what peculiar services has this clinic offered that old ones don’t? There are no doctors in Zambia as we all know that they is NO plan for health systems under MMD. This is nothing and will not mean anything to a voter!! DONCHI KUBEBA is coming very soon…

  9. Iwe Sum Guy and your slumpy MMD cronnies, at what cost has RB and MMD done this rushed buiding of school and clinic blocks? A classroom that should cost million of kwachas have been pegged at tens of billions of kwachas! And all this is BORROWED MONEY! Hey who doesn’t know the gimmicks in all these? Corruption which Levy fought so hard is the language of RB and MMD and so we the Zambians know and we will remember the traitors in the booth. Keep dreaming of “development” which the majority cannot feel. We want employemnt and blocks of some unknown structures with a plan….DONT KUBEBA ANTHEM is engraved in all our hearts….

  10. 20 years on, we want MMD to be accountable from when they occupied office to now. How much monies have been collected through revenue, PAYE etc. Hospitals and roads should not be a privilege, any Government of the day has an obligation to put up infrastructure . MMD has done nothing to alleviate poverty, they should not be praised for anything. Our great nation keeps lagging behind. HH is the way forward

  11. This year is about CHANGE because in 20 YEARS Zambia under on party called MMD has NOT seen any tangible development that impacts on the majority poor. So it’s the right time to go for an alternative who has a proven track record with minimal resources. His name is MC Sata and PF. It’s shiiii mwenawesu dont kubeba the BOAT. Under MMD unemployment has sky rocketted and poverty is the order of the day, so why waste time with such playboys? Vote pa bwatooooooooooooo, PF means business.

  12. :((Why are the patients at the UTH neglected? Because RB only cares for his pet projects where he has made money for his clan.

  13. Lets not pretend and lie about people receiving first class health care at the new hospital. If going to the new hospital and being turned away is first class service, then UTH is top class. I have been to that hospital and we were just referred to the UTH because the hospital does not have the staff and many other equipment. Well if you go out there to ask MMD cadres about this, what do you expect them to say? Lusakatimes has also been turned into a cadre online news reporter for MMD. It would be very important for LT to go and check the issue at the new hospital to really confirm the situation and not writing hearsay.
