MINISTER of Foreign Affairs Chishimba Kambwili says Zambia and Malawi enjoy cordial diplomatic relations and has dismissed assertions of souring ties between the two countries.
Mr Kambwili said in an interview on October 10 that it is important for people to differentiate between President Sata’s deportation from Malawi in 2007 and the diplomatic relations between Zambia and Malawi.
“To the contrary, the diplomatic relations between Malawi and Zambia are very cordial. You must appreciate that Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Bob Sichinga and his team has left for Malawi to attend the COMESA summit and I leave tomorrow (today) at 11:00 hours,” Mr Kambwili said.
He said President Sata would not have sent the Zambian delegation to attend the COMESA summit if the diplomatic ties between the two countries had soured.
Mr Kambwili, however, said President Sata is right to ask for an apology from the Malawian Government for having deported him in 2007.
“There is an issue here which should be resolved between the Malawian Government and His Excellency President Michael Sata and we are asking them to revoke the deportation and furnish us with reasons why he was deported,” Mr Kambwili said.
He said this is a lesson to African countries not to mistreat opposition leaders.
Mr Kambwili said African leaders should learn from developed countries like Britain and the United States which do not mistreat opposition leaders.
He said African leaders should realise that they will not be in their positions forever.
“The President is right to ask for an apology so that the matter can be resolved,” Mr Kambwili said.

Kambwili, this is not Mpatamatu and Mikomfwa relations, are you sure Malawi and Zambia are cordial?
As a matter of fact, they are. Its just Mr. Wa Mutharika being stubborn, and he is not even popular with his own people.
He is right, even HH needs to be treated with respect and dignity in any country that he chooses to visit. Mbingu is trying to revive Kamuzu Bandaism type of politics. Africa should be seen to be moving with modern democratic theories not ancient politics of thuggery, vindictiveness and assassinations. I will be the first PF cadre to ditch my lovely PF party if my government resorts to mistreating opposition leaders. The day when HH will be bundled into a land rover by the PF govt on trumped up charges, I will ditch PF and launch a political revolution in which I will declare myself as a possible presidential candidate in order to mop out the political mess in my country. I am watching my party every step it is taking. Already am not too happy with Sata’s comments on Mchenga.
The boss is making a diplomatic blunder and this guy is trying to clean up! Pathetic. The fact is his boss broke the laws of another country. Period
SATA was personally hurt. He deserves to choose those he can play with. Bingu will definately not be SATA’s friend in anyway. YES, SATA is not interested in going to Malawi on personal grounds. He has therefore sent other Zambian leaders to represent Zambia. No one should force SATA to go to a country where they don’t want him. Just because it is COMESA does not remove the fact that SATA is still Prohibited personally to go into Malawi. Why is malawi pretending that SATA as President of Zambia can go there, but the ban still remains for SATA as a person. This means SATA cannot be allowed to go anywhere in Malawi other than the meeting because he is still dangerous in their eyes. We don’t hate Malawi. Bingu is caught pants down. SATA has no time for him on personal level
ON MCHENGA, THE PRESIDENT IS RIGHT COZ MAKING A DECISION BASED ON NEWS PAPERS IS NOT GOOD. IF THERE IS SOMETHING TANGIBLE, TAKE IT TO THE PRESIDENT AND WAIT FOR THE NEXT ACTION. IF HE DOES NOT ACT THEN WE SHOULD COMMENT ACCORDINGLY.
JUDAS =which laws. be serious my friend. the
is Kambwili foolish or stupid to be making an ***** of himself
I remember Obama visiting London before he became president and a certain David Cameron complaining that the British goverment was treating Obama like he was already president. Now that is maturity on the part of the British government. Surely we have a lot to learn from them as Africans. as long as the opposition is legitimate there is no need to bundle someone on to an old Land Cruiser subjecting him to hours and hours of a bumpy ride on those African roads. Ala nichofye bakateka besu (H.E MCS) ninshimbi otherwise kuti wafika nomutwe naukalipa.
Unfortunately the mug (Mbingu) said in his daily papers yestreday that he was not going to apologise. To be honest he has a lot on his hands already having imposed his brother on the people of Malawi to take over from him.
I do not remember Obama secretly slipping into England and Germany. I do remember him having official visits to these two countries, however.
I am not sure if politicians can not take leave to look after their ill partner. Kambwili’s wife is in hospital in the UK, why cannt he look after his sick wife first and then when she is better he goes back to Z? I would not want to listen to him until I see him behaving like a real man, one who is on bedside when wife is ill.
Are you serious? His wife is I’ll in the UK??
I mwe mwebantu mulifipuba sana. U are *****s. I wish I was Mpombo to use the right english here. If someone beats u before u are president and you dont reconcile do you think you can be friend just becuase u are president? MMD/UPND Chaps u are *****s.
The president has every right to choose a friend. and this time not the malavian president.
#3 Judas: What law of Malawi did Sata break? His deportation from backwards Malawi was simply because he was an opposition leader and they thought by deporting him they would be showing solidarity with RB. Primitive politics! Our Foreign Affairs Minister is right in saying “this is a lesson to African countries not to mistreat opposition leaders.”
Personally, I do not give a damn whether we have diplomatic ties with Malawi. It is just a poor parasitic country that gains much more from us than we do from it. So many Malawian immigrants in Zambia who pretend to be Zambian and reap our fruits, including ascending to the highest office. Pathetic!
Vision, ndiwe chindere chomene. Do you know how many Zambians are in Malawi? You are an *****! Begin to think like a cosmopolitan citizen. Which school did you attend in Zambia?
@#8. Kanongesha. That is really being petty, are you a girl? I will put this simply for you to understand.
1. If she is in the UK, she is in safe hands.
2. When your wife is sick, it doesn`t mean life has to come to a stand still. And, what if whatever she is suffering from is long term, you want him to be in the UK for 2 years before say she gets better or something else happens? What happened to condition has changed or improved and the man has to go and get his wife or be at the bedside?
3. Let us move away from this mentallity of bringing everything to a stand still just for the mug next door to say iyo bamusunga umukashi. Life has to go on and this government has only got into power.
Has kambwili done bit of International Relations? Some so called ministers in PF government awe mwandi. Minister of finance, Labour, Home Affairs, Local Govt not impressive. They are not smart. Look at the British and American Politicians, very smart and proper english. Only late FTJ and Chipimo Senior who spoke the best. I miss these two guys.
Talking and performing are two different things. Right now Zambia needs people that can perform than give great speeches…
malawi government and zambian president(elected by zambian people=government). kambwili you are a liar.
U need to have one thing that covers for you shortcomings; FTJ short but with sharp tongue. Kambwili tongue not too sharp but is bully just like the his name leopard. If Mutarhikha wants to attach him them he may see the real Kambwili. Please Chishimba Chimbwili if Bingu behaves stupily towards u bunch in the face. We have ZAf, ARMy 100 times as large as malawi. Infact Nyasaland was just a province like eastern its just the Basungus who got it from us, We need it back. i hate a white man or pink man
Except the VIP- Ba Guy Scout pantu bena ni ba guy. elyo bafyalilwa pa ZED. But Muzungu ni Muzungu mwe.
@11, speaking ‘good’ English is not a mark of intelligence. I enjoy listening to Mr. Magande’s brainy discussions with his Tonga accented English. In any case I barely hear what Rooney or Sir Alex Ferguson say although they speak English everyday.
Ba Kanongesha what does your comment got to do with Zambia and Malawi relationship? I dont think Kambwili’s personal life with respect to his family got to do anything with Zambia’s diplomatic situation with Malawi. Should Kambwili stop performing his duties just becoz his wife is sick in USA? It appears you have a personal vendetta to settle with Kambwili. If you do, deal with him personally in your own way without suffocating us with your stupidity and pettiness on this forum. What exactly are you doing in UK? And did you get in UK and on which Visa? I wont be surprised that you are changing diapers of the old people in the retirement homes. You do sound poorly educated and poorly informed of national affairs.
Mr. President made a number of hits and misses in choosing his cabinet. We respect the reasons for making the choices, but Kambwili as Foreign affairs Minister was a miss!! He lacks the polish, articulation and the statue for the position. He could have been a real hit placed at Labour for he understands the plight of our workers very well and could have “kicked ass” and brought sanity in the mines and the chinese employers would have jacked up under his stewardship at that ministry. Not too late to move him into that slot!! Similarly, he could have swapped Chikwanda with Sichinga. The latter is more current and has a grasp of the world economic order.
Please people can someone tell this wamutharica that ZAmbia works with the principle of DONCH KUBEBA, he should be careful, otherwise it will be applied on him and he will become an opposition leader soon,oh!
Can Zambia also apologise to Morgan Tswangirai of Zimbabwe when he was also forced out of
Zambia by MMD Govt. Mr Sata as an opposition leader then was supposed to observe travel protocols
beffiting him and should have annonced about his intention to visit Malawi to alert Govt organs to provide him with the necessary protection and security. He silently entered Malawi and the Immigration knowing the protocols beffiting VIPS contacted high officials in foreign affairs, who contacted their counterparts in Zambia who were not kind enough to clear him but gave a very bad report that made the Malawi Government to act the way they did, this embarrasment originated from the MMD Govt in Zambia.
#13, WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN DELIVER. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH LANGUAGE THEY SPEAK.
Kambwili is not a Zambian he is a malawian related to one Kamzimbe
Judas ulitako ilyafita tawakwata amano schopeti
Sata is just a kaponya. I am not suprised by his uncivilised behaviour. The apology you are seeking wont be forthcoming. You can bully your way in Zambia but not in the international arena. Learn to pick your fights. Sata and his PF thugs are just an embarassment to Zambia. Remember there is the South African issue of carrying an undeclared $27 500 on Sata’s person. The money was confiscated to be released upon Sata providing documentation about how and where he got the money from. Upto now MCS has never bothered to go and claim his dubious money! And this is the kind of person PF Kaponya’s want to present to the world as a ‘saviour’. Thugs have indeed taken over Zambia! Enjoy the ride as Zambia plummets downwards courtesy of the Lumpen in State House!
What does this fool know about international relations and diplomacy? I have heard him speak. He doesn’t know how to talk and has the potential to damage relations with countries we need. He should continue ‘supplying’ the mines…
@#26. Kubwamba.Do you have a brain? If you do I bet it is kubwamba. Tool!
Leave HEMS alone guys. He cannot go to a country that deported him without any reason.
So far so good with Sata, a real patriot of Zambia. Go Zambia go. Not thz under dogs bar.king frm the diaspora. They have failed to act for their country but decided to barrk frm afar. Loook at Klive Kirwa, very selfish and unpatriotic; building busineses in foreign countries instead of benefitting his country. Shame.
# 11, Get your facts right before you post anything. Sata was deported during the time of Mwanawasa and not RB so there was nothing between Bingu and RB. I strongly feel we still need Malawi as a good friend of Zambia, remember your history very well about the two or three countries namely Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. A person without history is like a tree without roots so if now malawi and Zim are poor we still need them for one thing or the other. Let us avoid saying we do not need them.
@29 SPOT ON
IN ZIM IF YOU COME FROM A FOMER FEDERAL STATE YOU STATE IT AND IT IS RECOGNISED
Plse take a leaf from MUGABE. When he was or still is on international sanctions not to travel, he still used to travel to USA for the UN General Assembly. So why not MCS travel to COMESA Summit? Please, think b4 u talk ba kaponya supporters.
@27, Italian Wannnbe, your lack of brains to make it in Zambia took you to the UK…
calibre!!!!!!!!!
‘African leaders should learn from developed countries like Britain and the United States’…well said Kambwili.
African leaders should also learn to listen to people’s views.
# 30: So what? Ok we replace RB with Mwanawasa, and it does not change anything. Still primitive politics by Mbingu!
If you need Malawi, that is your problem. Zambia does not!
# 36, You are not Zambia and do not speak on behalf of Zambia please. Just say you do not need Malawi instead of Zambia. For now both of us can not speak on behalf of Zambia but as individuals. Do not get upset with me as these are my opinion and respect them as I will also respect yours.
#32 you are wrong with your wrong opinions
Using the powers vested in me by constitution of Nyasaland, I hereby declare the eastern part of this country to be part of the soveeign state of Malabi. Nyambala one ku Malabi! Mwe bantu, we need Malawi much as it needs us. We have a long history together. Todate, the Copperbelt habours a lot of people of Malawian origin who are relatives in oneway or another. Good neighbouriness demands that there must live in peace will all our neighbours. There no need to be overdemanding or arrogant, just sort issues out and we forge ahead.
Kunda Mambo #2 you put it so well. When that happens I will be your running mate.
President Sata is right to refuse those pathetic and pretentious invitations from stupid Mbingu Wa Sh*t of Malawi. He ordered his immigration department to deport Sata in order to appease his fellow ***** RB Banda. Now he has to pay the price or come clean and apologize to President Sata for wrongly bundling him in a Landrover wreck to Mwami border. Whether Sata was party Leader or an ordinary citizen of Zambia, Malawi needs to explain why they departed him. At any ray rate Kambwili should stop lying that a cordial relation exists between the two leaders. Let us just forget about that impoverished country,Malawi. They need Zambia more than we need them.
Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and wanted to mention that I have really enjoyed surfing around your weblog posts. After all I will be subscribing in your rss feed and I am hoping you write again very soon!
