Police officers protest over delayed allowances

Share

Some Police officers in Lusaka yesterday morning protested at the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ over the delayed payment of election allowances.

The Police officers told Muvi TV NEWS that they have not been paid their alowances for the services rendered during the September 20th 2011 polls.

For fear of being victimized some police officers who sort to speak off the camera, expressed displeasure at the delays by ECZ to pay them their allowances for the services rendered during the just ended general elections.

The police officers accused the Electoral Commission of Zambia of not showing commitment to pay them their allowances.

However when contacted for a comment, ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna expressed ignorance over the matter describing it as an administrative issue.

Meanwhile, A Police officer who shot at a public service vehicle on Monday eveining at Kabanana check point on the Lusaka-Chirundu road injuring two passengers on board has been arrested.

Zambia police service spokesperson, Ndandula Siamana has confirmed the arrest of constable Nkombe saying the officer shot at the mini bus after an argument with the driver, who decided to drive off.

She says the driver has been identified as Justine Chishimba of Lusaka’s Mandevu compound while the two injured women passengers are both from Zimbabwe and are currently admitted to Mtendere mission hospital in Chirundu.

Ms. Siamana says the police officer has been charged with unlawful wounding and will appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, Ms. Siamana says three people including a driver of a Scania truck have died on the spot in an accident in eastern province.
This is contained in a statement made available to MUVI TV News yesterday.

  1. Where was the police car with fuel that could have enabled the officer to chase the minibus instead of trying to disable it with a gun?

  2. ECZ can you pay those officers. You wanted to rig and be protected by underpaid police officers. So as a way of buying protection you promise an “allowance” . I suugest that you go ahead and Mr. Akufuna you should have consulted your colleagues instead of hiding behind “it’s an administrative issue” phrase.

  3. Firstly, that fellow should be charged with attempted murder and not unlawful wounding, or was the precendency started by that Ministrial incidence. On second account, is what happens when thugs are rectruited into the Police service and allowed to carry dangerous weapons. There are many hard working cops whose image is being tarnished by a few rotten eggs. Scurutinize that chaps’s grade 12 certificate, it was probably forged by the ECZ of Matero and he must have joined during the third term saga. :)

  4. The policeman was right to shoot except he should have aimed at the tires only. The driver is useless why did he sped off ignoring the policeman???/

  5. Constable nimwe how could you fire live ammunition when you know that there are innocent people inside ? Why not just radio the next police  post ?

  6. BA POLICE NABO MOST OF THE TIME THEY LIKE NCHEKELAKO…THEY GUY SPED OFF BECAUSE THE OFFICER WAS JUST MAKING NOISE ATI TWALALYE INSHI NGAWAPITAFYE….SHAME!!!!!

  7. Bwana Mukubwa there is no need for you to hide from the camera what you are demading is very genuine and no need to fear we are ruling this country by the ten commandments and one of the ten commanments is thou shall never tell lies.Mr Akufuna I do not think why you are still there remember what you did during the meeting of all the presidential candidates you somehow sidelined MC.You never wanted to point at him though his hand was in air lolela bwana exit is near. ECZ just pay our OFFICERS why delay balibomba ala.Guns are not their to shot innocent and denfenceless people. That cop should be jailed to send a message to trigerhappy cops. Why did that cop take a number plate for that minibus and report to Central Police

  8. RB please pay those guys, you wanted them to help you rigg the elections but now you failed hence your failure to pay them their dues neh!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Why is Chris Akufuna still at ecz? fire that chap we all know he was playing stupid politics, kakapokola shot him kumatako as well, they are becoming a danger to our fugitive nation.

  10. Police at Road blocks should carry Guns but telecomunication gadgets. If a driver does not stop at these road-blocks, just take the number plate and call for re-enforcements, simple…

  11. #4 think before you write.and ba ECZ may you please pay babuuju if you know that they worked for the money they are demanding.

  12. So now you can ignore a police officer and just speed off. This is lawlessness and should not be condoned. Admitted the cop could have shot at the tyres but the mini-bus driver should be arrested for evading arrest.

  13. ba akufuna pay the guys please, but remember basune soon you will be fired naizandamuka .at mambili will spared for been honest this time.akufuna kuyabebele mambala join dick erect nyere.

  14. That so called polio acted so unprofessionally,I mean he shud face the law under Cobra, wat do these chaps go for at Lilayi?shooting inoncent pipo in a bus bcoz they dont hav ka shut up moni.shameeeeeeeeeeee on u bwana officer,no wonder u speak on a condition of unanimity for your own money.dat is yo money which u weked 4,u are scared of wat?

  15. ECZ it is time to react fast to the fast changing scenrio. Pay, it is no longer now administrative but reluctant to fullfull the promise. How can you promise without a budget? If you did not put it in the budget then you’re in hot soop from new ADMIN.

  16. Police alishama fye.Everytime its last and thru the hard way.In 2006 others got 900pin others 285pin ati seniority in paying out of pocket.Just pay them naimwe ifyakulandalanda tafyawama ba Chris.

  17. Indeed he acted unproffessionery. He would hav taken note of the number plate then hand over to the next person who takes over from him.Coz there is only one route no altenative one.So they would hav still gotten the guy wen coming back even if he spedoff.Or he would hav informed chirundu or kariba where ever that bus was going to.

  18. how i wish that police officer shot akufuna and not those inocent souls.

akufuna is a danger to society. mr. presido, were can we deport this nuisance to?

  19. Cops are angry Cobra won’t allow them to get their bread money, started shooting out of anger.  This Cop must be hung, the rest will then get the message bribes are a thing of the past.

    • okay so i am a sophmore in high scohol and i read this story for an SSR project. it was so amazing that i never wanted to put it down. i will touch your heart and make you cry. even though it is a cliff hanger. i highly recommend this book.

  20. My comment though unrelated, I concur with #15, I have been stopped before for this same issue, & I REFUSED TO PAY, as my OLD car was still sporting its FACTORY MADE REFLECTORS, whilst those silly sticky things had on numerous times faded & worn off – SO I SAW NO SENSE IN ABIDING BY THOSE SILLY STICKERS – I think in this day & age WE SHOULD BE STEADFAST in not accepting these things at roadblocks – LET THEM ISSUE A TICKET, allowing YOU TO PROCEED, and if it is a fine, you pay it within a fixed time frame , e.g. within 5-7 days. We all have our Nat.Regs & driving licences, so there is no excuse for holding you if it is a minor infringement & your vehicle is roadworthy!!
