The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has called on political party leaders not to politicise this year’s Independence celebrations which falls on Monday, 24th October.

EFZ Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza observed that political party leaders were fond of politicising events such as the independence celebrations which were very cardinal to the nation.

Rev Mwanza told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that celebrations such as the Independence Anniversary were supposed to unite the people in the country and not divide them.

He said that it was high time politicians buried their differences and looked up to God for strength and guidance to lead the country.

Rev Mwanza noted that Independence Day was a very important event in which the leaders were supposed to show solidarity instead of expending their energies on character assassination.

He said political leaders should work together in the country regardless of their political affiliations, if peace was to continue prevailing in the country.

He said that political leaders should show oneness adding that this was in line with the country’s motto of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’.

And Rev Mwanza advised political party leaders who were fond of shunning Independence celebrations when invited not to do so this year as the trend sent a wrong signal to the outside world.

The Clergy appealed to members of the public not to be overexcited with the celebrations but that they should remember to praise God for the country’s 47th Independence anniversary.

This year’s independence anniversary falls on Monday next week and will be celebrated under theme; ‘Rejuvenating Our Prosperity, Patriotism and Fight Against Corruption’.

  1. HH will turn down the invitation to attend the uhuru celebrations at State House. The rest will attend but not too about RB. The most prominent figure will be Dr Kaunda who will be sitting next to King Cobra. I am told HH has issued an order warning his MPs that whoever will attend the celebrations at State House will be chopped from the part of which a by-election will be called.

  2. # 1. I guess you have to grow up and learn that rumours are not admissible as evidence. HH can refuse to celebrate it state hse or else where if he has a pre arranged meeting or agend. He is not an idle mind to attend to everything! I suggest you consider being mature and report facts and not peddle wat “i hear”. Intelligent and wise people report fact and not hearsay. Which category are you? HH is not mentioned in the article. How does he come in? Sata and many other leaders including Kaunda have turned inivitations before. Wat would be wrong with HH refusing. I feel sorry for your hatred of this man . It seems he gives you sleepless nites. Why I do not know. Please mature up and libe up to standards of normal and a lunatic human being. This is free advise to you

  3. @Happi, your HH is bitter period. Why are u trying to exonerate him? Are u also part of the bantustan? What important meetings does HH have? No wonder one blogger Kunda Mambo once said the problem with UPND cadres is that they think their cows will vote for them in order to unseat the MMD. Your HH is finished and by the time he realizes it, he will be a senior citizen whom we shall also ask to retire from politics. UPND and HH will never form govt. UPND is good for an opposition. Just look at your numbers in the parliament. From more than 40 MPs in 2001 elections to 28 MPs now. Are u doing any better? Sata started with 1 MP in 2001 and rose to 49 in 2006 and now he has swelled to 60. Soon the parly will be dominated by PF bcoz we shall be scooping all the by-elections one after another.

  4. having stayed on the CB for over 20 years, I have a good appreciation of the hatred for Tongas. The common line is’UmuTonga, awe!’. The haters can argue if they want, but this is the truth I have come across several times.

  5. I have never been a party member but I have vowed only to support a progressive party that has the interests of the great people of Zambia at heart, not the chwe chwe nafuti nafuti nonsense. Right now I believe the PF is on the right track.
As for HH we can all see that he is a very bitter man, and these are the qualities of a pathetic opportunist who has still to learn and understand what true national leadership is all about.

  6. Wearing of party regalia and prominence of ruling party dancers is what politicises such functions, especially at State House. On another note can Sata abolish the debasing acts of mothers dancing at the airport. I also do not see the value of the whole cabinet and service chiefs lining up each time the president is to board or disembark from a plane.Total waste of manhours and abuse of those individuals lining up.

  7. What was he talking about? Independence was apolitical victory, its just impossible to even talk about indepence without talking about the politics behind it.

Point made, now when did we start using this ‘uhuru’ terminology? Fu*k it, there are no swahii’s in Zambia, ok. No point bringing Tanzania/kenya politics when we have our own politics to talk about on 24th october.

  8. # 3. If i wa HH’s personal advisor, i would tell him not to attend or if he did never to eat anything saved to him. Or else may end up being poisoned during the celebrations. Senior govt officials have warned him that they will sort him out. Only a stupid fool like you will go into a camp that has vowed to kill you. This is an open statement reported in the media from Kambwili and Lubinda. It will folly to accuse him of being unpatriotic. You only need to be a normal wise human being not stupid as you are!

  9. Sata was shunning the celebrations when he was in opposition. What will stop the opposition to do the same this time around when the King Cobra had set the precedent? What goes round…the rest is history.
