Zambia withdraws From Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup

Cecafa has withdrawn Zambia’s participation in this month-ends Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup to be held in Tanzania.

Cecafa general secretary Nicholas Musonye said in correspondence to Faz on Friday that they had been informed by Caf that regulations prohibited a team that had qualified for the Africa Cup from taking part in the event.

“We have just received a letter from CAF informing us that according to CAF regulations we cannot invite team(s) that have qualified to CAN to participate in CECAFA competition, more particularly after the CAN draws have been done,” Musonye said.

“This means we cannot invite you and Cote d’Ivoire as we had planned.”

A 24-man Zambia team was due to go into camp in Lusaka on Sunday to start training camp for the tournament that will be held in Dar es Salaam from November 24 to December.

  1. Rules are rules guys. I would have been a good preparation opportunity for us though. Let us focus on more friendlies now.

  2. Again bafikala ba LT the headline and the story are completely opposite. It is not Zambia that has withdrawn. It is CAF that has ruled out Zambia’s eligibility to participate.

  3. This reasoning does not make much sense! Have we not participated in this tournament before after we had already qualified for AFCON before? Is this a new rule?

  4. KCI, you are right about the head line. please ba LT, be carefull as some people read and pay attension to sentenses. as for our team, too bad.

  5. Why majority africans cannot read , comprehend and remember what is written??? SA was the same case , the coach misjudged and misguided the team to go for a draw at home, result they were booted out of AFCON. Zambia goes ahead to name the team for CECAFA and probably already made arrangements for camping only to be told u cant participate hahahahahaha…poseniko amano read CAF rules carefully otherwise muza sebana KU afcon

  6. headline is very misleading….read through your reports before posting..anyway we know you are trying to say zambia won’t be part of that nonsense..good change for once.. it really cost us fifa rankings because of losing to hopeless teams like ethiopia and zanzibar..FAZ stop going there…plse

  7. yaba…what the hell..they should have communicated b4..but anyways..that saves our tax payers’ money!!
