Police probe assassination plot

Share

Inspector General of Police- Dr Martin Malama

THE police have launched investigations into an alleged plot by unnamed opposition leaders and retired army generals planning to assassinate Government leaders spearheading the fight against corruption.

Inspector-General of Police Martin Malama warned in Lusaka yesterday that the police would not condone criminality and lawlessness. He said people that were plotting criminality and lawlessness would face the full wrath of the law. He said the police would safeguard the country against any external and internal threats against the country. “The police will ensure that the country continues to enjoy the peace it has been enjoying and I want to categorically state that the country is safe,” he said.

Dr Malama, however, assured that the country was safe for both local and foreign investments. He said the people in the country would continue to enjoy the protection of the police service. He said the police received various threats against their lives from some citizens and it was their obligation to investigate such allegations and that those to be found wanting would be prosecuted by the courts of law.

Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba told the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) on Wednesday that some opposition leaders and ex-generals were plotting to assassinate Government leaders that were spearheading the fight against corruption. Mr Mwamba said security agencies were trailing these people

  1. I thought police was only for home affairs! “the police would safeguard the country against any external and internal threats against the country“

  2. Monk Sq analysis: You mean u dont know that there’s also interpol! Thats the problem when go fishing instead of going to school! Ubututu

  3. This is careless talk which frighten people and achieves nothing. If you have evidence, make arrests quietly and charge the culprits. Pissing in the wind like this is so 1970s.

  4. This is really rubbish! Who will even think of assassinating such incompetent leaders. PF will be assassinated by the same wild promises they to the people.

  5. Awe guys naimwe, lets be civil. Insele against each other is not good. Kuluku, you should have just advised monk sq analysis amicably. We are all Zambians. Lets build that spirit of brotherhood and reclaim our dignity as first class sitizens. We have been third class in our own country for too long. I love Dr. Malama and he knows that the Boss is listening at State House. Eya nomba ebutekobu.

  6. When ignobles are tested with power they end up seeing figments everywhere. What do you expect from illiterate retards in sensitive positions through family dynasties? Mwamba is not only an alarmist that deserves to to be fired and save Sata from irredeemable shame, but he should be grilled regardless of his blood pressure risks. Does this retard understand that such reckless talk put only builds real risks against the country from sleeping hostile forces? Does he realize that it make investors consider Zambia as a high risk investment destination?

  7. If Sata does not tame such retards, the next thing he might dream of is sending our defense into aggression against neighboring countries cheating himself that he is too powerful to crash anyone in the region. Watch such premates without common sense and basic education. He thinks because he is in a government office then everyone can be caged needlessly. Mwamba good luck in your myopia and drivel.

  8. Didnt the President fire almost 30 senior soldiers? I said they should stop playing with boiling soup, yes they should.Military issues are not everyones cup of tea.Prevention is better than cure. Now people will get arrested.I say arrest all these plotters and charge them with treason. That too costs money. Two wrongs never make a right. We are a democracy and regime change should be democratic.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  9. There is no Smoke with fire. let the police do their Job. Sata is under fire from opposition Enemies. Please double your Security for the President! Foreign powers may be involved in such plots. The Late Mwanawasa had similar threats when he started the fight against Corruption. It looks like we have Maffas in Zambia as well. Please crush them.

  10. Kolala II,you are right there is no smoke without fire but one thing you should not forget is that Sata has risen to this position through lies and deceipt and thrives on rumours.Remember the days of Black Mamba when he was working together with Chiluba or Zero option. This was just meant to get rid of Political opponents. We had a quiet time with Levy and RB where no one was assassinated but i can promise you that with the coming in of King Cobra, you will see these things coming back.He has already started accusing RB and HH because these are potential threats to his Presidence.I will not also be surprised to start hearing that so and so has died in a Road accident or has been shot by theives.

  11. Nonsense absolute nonsense !!these chaps just like blowing the trumpet as loud as possible but nothing tangible…happens!what assassinations just concentrate on building the country!!

  12. Absolute nonsense. Police are not investigating anything because there is nothing to investigate. The so-called assassination plot is nothing but a figment of GBM’s own imagination.

  13. Do a NAME SHAME THEM concept, why beat about the bush, we want transparency, just publish their names. Let this not be an excuse for PF to stop fighting corruption

  14. Who among you remember the Zero option saga, this is the same wolf in another skin. So please let us not be fooled these people made promises and will by all means use such excuses to break them.DON’T LISTEN TO THEM ZAMBIA, NOBODY HAS REASON TO ASSASSINATE ANY ONE. They are simply shit scared of this grievous failure of theirs. We’re 51  days in and I see no sign of my money !!Pa Fwakaaar!! Allergic to corruption my foot.

  15. Careless pronouncements and loose barking by PF leaders. You cant differentiate between a PF cadre and a minister.GBM has sunk so low.Even a mad dog doesnt bark so aimlessly.RB wants to retire i dont see how he can be chasing MCS.No matter how we may hate HH he is not such type of guy.So PF should not try to take our attention elsewhere. The issue here is 90 days and so much that was promised.Shall we have information when we will start receiving that which was promised to us.Simple

  16. I think the PF government should not create fictitious assassination plots just to find an excuse to trumple on people’s human rights. We knew that GBM would start coming up with stupid allegations like these. Who can be more corrupt than GBM in Zambia? It is GBM who up to now does not pay his workers, has battered his wife in full view of the public, and has corruptly obtained govt contracts before, and bribed the entire Kasama in the last elections. Let’s gte reall. He must focus on national defense matters, not attending toy-soldier exercises and creating fictitious stories to alarm the nation. What kind of crap is that? The problem is he has no clue as to what he should be doing in his job. Did GBM even finish secondary school???

  17. Zambia has Mafias . Dangerous criminals who should not be given any space. Levy was killed by the same devils. Pf must out maneuver these criminals. What kind of critisism is this from day one upto today . Counter attack them. Ngakufililamusenge nafibe. They have no country’s interest at heart. Deal with them ruthlessly ba dogstan.

  18. As a nation we have gone backwards since PF took up power.nothing has been achieved so far except taling and commisions of enquiry and dubious appointments.Nothing else has happened that we can call development. So far even the worst we had in RB seems better than now.Apart from promises nothing is happening at all.Its all talk talk and more talk. Please we are tired of stories

  19. Development can not be seen in one day or so…Let the new govt clean the house first and then there will be development. All we need to do is to remain patience and give them a chance to put things in place…

  20. It is very unprofessional for the Defence Minister to announce that security agencies were trailing these people.

  21. what is this. zambia is a peacefull christian nation. the people planning this rot should be caged and caged for good. period

  22. This looks like diverting attention from the main issue of delivering in 90days! Has the money increased in people’s pockets? Are there more houses now, as the promise was within 90days? Is there more employment now?

  23. So now the Zambia Police will protect us from external threats including war declarations from neighboring counries… I can now see the confusion between treatment and immunization in our medical IG…

  24. What dya expect when you have a kaponya for a defence minister!? GBM’s KB mentality is so deeply ingrained within him that if you cut open his heart, you’ll find it there.Trying to divert attention from the expected 90-day failures – he should just focus on what his boss promised. Unfortunately, from what has transpired since inauguration, looks like Sata does not know what to do in that office of his, being a cop and cleaning railway stations in London is not the same as being state president.

  25. Former Generals and oppositions members in the same pot is a dangerous meal…yet again how mature is the Defence Minister to have mentioned this and left it hanging? I reckon such a sinistive matter should be mentioned with full disclosure-with FACTS or not at all…the he want about it leaves fear in a country-Generals and opposition leader, terrible recipe for any country…

  26. In military any rumour must be taken seriourly, but GBM and malama could have done their investigation throughouly and acted on the offenders instead of just rushing to the press.

  27. Dr Malama sir, please dont publiclly say what the police is up to. When the time comes just start arresting them and lock them up. I will be very gratefull if we see some people go behind bars. This is the change we wanted.
