Police in Ndola Release 32 Vendors Unconditionally

Share

Police in Ndola have unconditionally released all the thirty-two vendors that were detained in Friday’s clashes.

Copperbelt Minister, John Kufuna led an entourage From Ndola City Council, Patriotic Front and Copperbelt Police Headquarters in Ndola to sensitize suspects that were detained for refusing to vacate the streets after a Council directive.

Mr. Kafuna has pleaded with the traders to operate from designated places and stop doing business on the streets because the law does not allow.

And Copperbelt Police Deputy Commissioner MILNER Muyambango says the police does not segregate people because of their status in society but simply upholds the law.

  1. You just scared of them you PF fools that your popularity will wane further.True failures how do let roiters free like that, next it will be in Lusaka,Chipata, your Kasama,Kitwe and thats when you you will appreciate the effectiveness of cagging your kaponyas, you cowards woooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  2. This is good. It is good to understand the poverty that leads people to vending, so it is a very honourable thing to do to at least let them off with a warning and sensitization rather than let them languish in prisons for being victims of poverty. If they repeat the act of refusing to follow the law, then we can lock them up paermanently. I think this gesture by police/govt, is humane. Congratulations, and keep it up. This is humanism. People should not just enjoy punishing even where alternatives of mutual benefit can be arrived at.

  3. Sorry, not lock them up permanently, but for as long as the period for which one can be imprisoned for such a crime, or if its a fine, they pay fines. For now, bravo police, government, for showing a humane side.

  4. We have often distanced social and scientific research from development. If research will continue to be an academic exercise very little will be achieved in terms of economic development. Street vending is a social and economic phenomenon which can be resolved through engaging in robus social research to find solutions. It may sound trivial to some inteligent bloggers but an indepth analysis of the problem needs to be conducted. For example, getting to know the class of people who buy from street vendors, where they live/stay with a view of taking the merchandise to markets near their homes. Secondly, the size of desgnated markets needs to be known. Are they capacitated enough to swallow all traders, if not what should be done to improve their capacities.

  5. Ndola is the place to be. It is now the cleanest city in Zambia and I am proud to be part of it. We can’t let people be trading on the streets in this century. Shame on the past MMD which failed clean our streets.

  6. Point of correction No.7 Boju. The MMD had cleaned the streets quite alright, but then, from the time MMD announced the election day, it allowed the vendors to sell en masse in town corridors because of political expediency. And, as we saw during elections, they were not swayed by that political consideration and voted MMD out.

  7. VENDORS AND KAPONYAS, SO YOU REALLY BELIEVED SATA WHEN HE SAID MORE MONEY IN YOU POCKETS IN 90 DAYS? SHAME ON YOU COS YOU WERE WARNED. NOW THE PF GOVERNMENT IS TAKING FOOD FROM YOUR TABLE.
