Government has assured the people of Western Province that the Patriotic Front (PF) government will ensure that the province receives its fair share of national development.
Government has commissioned the long awaited K 2 billion Mayukwakwa Bailey Bridge across Luena River in Kaoma district that was washed away during flash floods caused by last season’s rains.
Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu said the Government will ensure that the province benefit from its pro poor policies which are aimed at bettering the welfare of Zambians.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Mubukwanu who is also PF Mongu Central Member of Parliament was speaking in Mongu yesterday during commissioning of the Mayukwakwa Bailey Bridge constructed by a combined team of Zambia Army and Zambia National Service.
He explained that developmental challenges in the province are not insurmountable saying the PF government is currently implementing programmes that will have a direct impact on enhancing the social and economic status of the people.
Mr. Mubukwanu further explained that the 2012 National Budget is testimony of Government’s resolve to tackle poverty in the country and making Zambia a better place for all regardless of their status.
And Mr Mubukwanu said the construction of a bailey bridge on the Mayukwayukwa U4 road brings to an end perennial cutting off of the area from the rest of the province during rainy season.
He said the bridge will also ease transportation of people and agricultural produce to the market and access to social services in the district.
Mr. Mubukwanu has since directed Kaoma District Commissioner to ensure that the bridge is secured at all times by inhibiting vehicles with load exceeding 15 tonnes from using the facility.
Earlier, the District Commissioner Frederick Lubasi commended the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) for contracting the defence force to work on the bridge.
Mr. Lubasi said the bridge plays an important role in the district’s social and economic development and also connects Mayukwayukwa Refugee Camp to the rest of the province.

Start by securing safe and reliable sources of water to drink, then health and education..infrastructure comes fourth in this prioty area. And lets stop the construction of unstable bridges with the hope of deceiving the local people that its development..plse do us a favour by telling us the life span of that bridge??
Mubukwanu is just a foolish noise maker. what bridge does he think he can put up there. the tarain theri cant allow any bridge to hold due to water and sand. hes just a fool
Poor citizens. Look at this bridge and see how the MMD had seriously isolated this part of the country. So far what has been given for the project is still less than what Big Daddy burried in his magic trunks. God be with those manguams – they made many inocent souls suffer some even died because of their (MMD) ganancia. B.L.O.O.D FUXXXXXX. Cage ’em up
@2 fake Lungowe you are the fool
. The sand you are talking about is Kalahari sand that has been blown into that area by wind. The sand is on the surface. One or two shovels will expose firm ground. Those hardwood trees like Mukusi that are in high demand are able to grow because the sand just covers the surface. Fo.olish fake Lungowe the reason bridges are built is because of the presence of water in a given locality. So it is very sill.y of you to say you cannot buid a bridges in Western province because there is water. I think you should have your head examined promptly. In todays world; you can build anything on any surface. Only backward people like you like giving execuses. The south Africans, Namibians and Tswanas are building structures on the same Kalahari sands.
Mubukwanu seems to be not of the PF Lusaka team’s view on the 2012 budget. His president is on record during recent campaigns mentioning that the budget in question belonged to MMD in making. How can this man say it is for the poor when it was done by MMD. Ask the Post News paper and one of the article on this matter a few days ago. Records are there for all to read. How come now he is saying his govt has put up a budget which will bring development in this part of the country?
And the federal system of governance being spoken about by some political party in Zambia?
Muchete muchenge ng’ombe kutegwa atakooni ng’onzi! Keep assuring them
Well, Liato’s K2bn is here, how can we fail to build this bridge!
In my view the Zambian government MUST NOT spend any tax payers money on the development of Barotseland. The province is agitating to secede and therefore does not deserve any developmental funds at all. My sense is that government should just let Barotseland go so that funds can be used to develop provinces where appreciative and deserving people live. Western Province, as we all know it, is not one of the deserving provinces. There is no need of government holding on to a secessionist province that literary scares away investors. People from the province should realize that investors know they will be mistreated and ultimately lose their investment or simply their investments will not be appreciated.
why a bailey bridge? I thot those are temporal in times of disasters and emergencies? Anyway I hope a better concrete one is coming. Luena is a small river. “speaking in Mongu at the launch of the bridge…” why not launch the bridge on site. This place is over 200km away from Mongu.!
#4 Mushiko Mwendanjangula, good point on number # 2. This bridge is in Kaoma district. There is barely any sand and water. You must be thinking all places look like flood plains where the Mongu Kalabo road passes.
@7…my bad! my brother/sister you still have issues with the Ministry of Education
Read…and stop smocking
JAFY UMASIPA A NUNKA WENA MUNYUKUNYUKU TUWE, COME BACK HOME AND SEE THE REALITY, THE PF GOVERNMENT IS TALKING ABT DEVELOPMENT, U STILL TAKE US BACK, U ARE THE PEOPLE HU JST OPEN THE MOUTH WITHOUT READING THE BAROTSE AGREEMENT. MIND U FOOLISH JAFY, THE STORY ISN’T THE B.A, WHAT A NONSENCE ARE U TALKING ABT. WHEATHER U LIKE IT OR NOT WE SHALL REMAIN A THREAT TO PEOPLE LIKE U FUGITIVE JAFY.
One Zambia One Nation
oh , yeah, as expected in 90 days, te?
A bridge worth 2billion. What nonsense is this. That is a cheap bridge. These people!!!
Only a federal govt system will develop Zambia. Watch out for the use of resources from other provinces.
Western province requires ten times funding- the same projects in other provinces because of the landscape. Different designs and construction procedures should be used. Some roads can be announced as completed, while in the same month announced as washed away. This is a sandy and rainy area as opposed to sandy and dry in deserts. Let us also be more caustious on how we award contracts in this area by examining the calibre of contractors.
the president made mention of the katunda- lukulu- watopa road in his speech to parliament. the minister of finance left it out in his budget speech. i wish to urge the people from these areas to lobby their leaders for the inclusion of this road. time is now before all the money goes north
Western province does not need piecemeal developmental projects of repairing bridges, they need a total wholesome package. Why build 2 Universities in the North and nothing in Western, N/Western & Southern? We want equal shares, time of eating masuku on other people’s heads is over, and honour the Barotse agreement, 90 days is almost over.
Decentralisation is the only answer, give equal budgets to all provinces so that locals decide what developmental projects to undertake based on their priorities, this Big Brother attitude is not working.
#9@Jafy you are a sadist and I pray the spirit of God touches your heart. Your myopic and shallow analysis shows that you are a danderhead. Western province gave the PF govt 2 seats meaning there are pipo there who believe in the PF policies and the President has to honour his promises. As for investors they can go to hell coz they are depleting the resources and externalising the profits- this is the same reason Sata used to woo people’ sympathy- look at the so called mines run by investors, how much is Zambia gaining? You are pathetic and a BIG FOOL
#9@Jafy is indeed a danderhead, typical kaponya thinking. Go to school instead of exposing your shallow mind.
Please roll up your sleeves and do the work. Stop assuring people and do the damn work quietely. People are promise fatigue. The rhetorics coming from PF government will not help develop the country. What is in the national development plan? That should be the national promise. Please Sata stop these cheap ministers you appointed from criss crossing the country and promising people this and that as if they were still on campaign trails.
Westerners don’t be deceived by Satan. It’s another deception. It’s a lie. Sata and PF will only rule Zambia this term, come 2016 these thieves will be chucked out.

Nganda you are right to day president Sata apointed only bembas 2 ministers, 4 civil servants. How do you expect others to feel. There is no development in Barotseland to talk about.Mind the powerful ministries in Government are difence, foreign affairs, home affairs, finance and works and supply.even President Obama to kill Bin laden he only sat with key ministers to make decision.Inonge Wina is vey far from decision making. So called Given lubinda can talk about Barotseland you know it.So who will bring development to Barotseland or apoint Lozi, bunda, nkoyas, lubale, lunds to civil service in jobs when you are not in power.what about in foreign service if you find a lozi civil servant may is just by chance. But look at Bembas they have now boasting that this is now their time.
