United Party for National Development (UPND) has described the recent resignation of Msanzala independent Member of Parliament in Petauke district, Colonel, Joseph Lungu, as the worst plunder of national resources.

Party Deputy National Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa allege that the current scheme by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to boost its numbers in Parliament is primitive.

Mr. Mweetwa, who is Choma Central MP, says the reported resignation of the Msanzala legislator barely two-months after general elections, is disappointing.

He said although Colonel Lungu, as a democratic right of association, it is morally wrong for him to subject the people of Msanzala to a by-election so soon.

Colonel Lungu has resigned from his position as Member of Parliament and joined the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

This is not the first time an MP is resigning after September, 20th elections and force a by-election.

Meanwhile, The long awaited opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) general assembly next year will be held next year.

The mandatory general assembly comes six years after the last convention was held in 2006. The party failed to hold a mandatory general assembly prior to the 2011 tripartite elections, as prescribed by its party constitution for unknown reasons.

UPND National Youth Coordinator, Brian Hapunda has disclosed that his party is in full gear to prepare for its elective general assembly.

Mr. Hapunda says all positions in the party’s National Management Committee will be contested for and that all eligible members are free to apply

  1. Why is it that most UPND statements are issued by the Deputy \Spokesperson Mwetwa, who in my view is green, diisive and lacks dimplomatic etiqqutte and not Kakoma his boss? This guy needs to learn his procedures!!!!

  2. Why blame the PF and not the “democratic right”? Democracy is not cheap. It goes with costs. Don’t hate the person, hate the game.

  3. Why doesn’t Chilufya save the country’s resources and just turn the country into a one-party state by decree? He can even go further and decree that that only Bembas can be cabinet ministers as that is what he and his tribalist inclined supporters want.

  4. A TONGA PARTY FOR THE TONGAS BY THE TONGAS JUST LOOK AT THE PSITIONS,VICE SPOKESPERSON MWEETWA(TONGA) YOUTH CORDINATOR HAPUNDA(TONGA),U WILL NEVER RULE ZAMBIA BASKALANYONGO UNLESS YOU END YOUR INTRA PARTY TRIBALISM

  5. I see no PF hands in this. Plunder of ational resources? Wow! and who is plunderer here? PF/Sata? You guys are really fishing for any reason to connect everything to PF or Sata, how sorry and sad of Party is UPND becoming? Mweetwa, please amend the constitution if you dislike democracy so much! Just because Lungu did not resign and join UPND does not mean democracy is crap!

Yes, some of these resignations don’t make much sense, but you can’t blame PF for that. Blame the lack of principles among your fellow elected MPs and leaders. Politics of “njala” is simply too widespread among MPs. Start there Mr. Mweetwa, don’t just blame the PF and Sata for everything. You come off as petty and shallow!!!

  6. WHAT HAS PF GOT TO DO WITH HIS RESIGNATION? ARE YOU INSINUATING BRIBERY? IF SO THEN THE PARTY IS SO CHEAP AND NO CREDIBILITY TO REMAIN AS ONE BECAUSE ITS MEMBERS CAN EASILY BE PAID OFF AND BOUGHT. I BET EVEN YOURSELF AND HAKAINDE CAN BE BOUGHT. DID YOU EVER HEAR SATA COMPLAIN IN THAT WAY WHEN HIS MP’S SHIFTED TO MMD? BE READY COZ MORE ARE YET TO RESIGN. LOW THINKING CAPACITY GUY.

  7. The only dundeeds are the ones who can not link a bye election to wastage of resources. At the moment the PF has petitioned results in over 52 constituencies and if bye electons are held ,won’t it amount to deliberate wastage of tax payers money? Am dissapointed by the shallowness of the contributions of #6 and#7 bearing in mind that they are in the developed world where you dont hear of bye elections every now and then.Guys wise up

  8. Congrats by the way (as MP) our UNZANSU Sports Secretary … then UNZASU President the sky is the limit mwanawakwesu. If there was any resgnation to concentrate on UNZA politics it was a good move after all. Msanzala man could just be making a good move after all. Keep the fire aglow, one of our young law makers, two degrees – education, law,and a stint is in gvnt. Twalumba.

  9. Bloggers please be objective in your criticism of the statement in the article. Mr Zulu himself has confirmed thet the PF approachded him. So now that he has accepted to join them who is to blame but the PF? Both Zulu and PF and the constitution are to blame. The new constitution should not allow an mp who forces a bye election to contest and he/she must also pay for the cost of the bye election.

  10. Only PF fuuz can not link this bye election to stupid selfishness this foool must not be allowed to contest we would build 8blocksbof classrooms from this useless bye election. Sata is one of the most useless and selfish president Zambia will have. He came to power by a fluke and his 90days stupid lies are catching up with him non of the election promises he made has come to pass Zambians be aware these are the same crooks na ka Chiluba who made us found us into this mess

  11. No wonder we dont develop in Zambia. These resources could have been used to construct a clinic in the  Muchinga (Bemba) province instead of unnecessary bye elections.

  12. Mwaiche Cornelius, if UPND were sincere and matured enough the PF wouldn’t be desperate to prop up their numbers in Parley. Problem is you guys are trying to frustrate government policies so what do you expect them to do?

  13. This guy should just keep quiet, they won`t go no where by open up there mouths like this. there should be a reason this guys decided to resign. !!!

  14. Very disappointing indeed. You mean he couldn’t just support the PF in that position? I have a feeling this one will backfire in his face…like throwing shit at a fan…very sad…

  15. He who laughs last laughs more. I remember UDNP – Useless Party of Narrow-minded Dunderheads supporting those rebels.

More by elections please! Toot toot toot!!!!

  16. Reading through most the above comments, it is no suprise why things are the way they are in zambia! Our reasoning is somewhat unfuthormable, i rest my case!

  17. Every arrangement is a contract.  You can not accuse a shopkeeper of selling you an oversized shirt that you willingly agreed to pay for and take home.  The playing field is wide open and what PF is doing is simply capitalising on the mindset that has been cultivated since independence that you cannot do anything without supporting the ruling party.  Blame it on history.  In fact, even local councils are in the same ditch; that is why towns and cities are in disrepair because we think it is the RULING party that must repair our local roads in the townships!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Some comments posted above awe sure. Even when some easterner MP a Lungu for that matter resigns it has to do with bembas. what nonsense is this?

  19. As a nation we have tragecally reached a stage where the majority of us view the current costly circus called PF government moves as a normal way of governance. In literally all the constitutional review commissions people have complained about the wastage of limited resources on an endless array of wholly useless by-elections. This is not participatory democracy, this is masterbatory democracy and it stinks to the very heavens above. The plain s’t’u’p’i’d’i’t’y that bedevils Zambian minds deeply vexes me and I wonder why the good lord god almighty had to endower Zambians with such a wealth of f’o’o’l’i’s’h’e’s’s! Damn embaciles!

  20. it is the time for PF, let them rule after 10 or 20  years we’ll be back to developing and fighting poverty. never make a politician grant you a favour, they will always want to control you forever.Bob Marley

  21. imwe mwefita tonga mwaba shani ba gal— ,fikaitemwe what a convention only haha, hehe hihi.hoho, huhu witthout these initials you cant be in the executive.ba mweetwe bola panshi ico ichili pala twalemona kwati lyamano kanshi iyayi cowdung fulu mumutwe.today you are complaining of waisting money when your party chewed more than k2oo billion at the failed NCC.so stop barking before we false your party to bring back the money you ate at the ncc.leave the colonel he has the right to join the party of his choice.keep on receiving rabits but us ni ma giants .

  22. These happenings are the reason voting, the PF way, is a mistake everybody is regreting right now. We want “change” my foot. The only change we see is in political appointees not in the way of doing things. It’s pointless to concentrate on Mweetwa being tonga or politically incorrect. The fact that politicians have the nerve to betray their electorate by changing political affiliation, should not be allowed if we have to advance in oour democracy. The PF had a hand in the Chongwe resignation and you must be naive to deny that. Its based on this precedent that one can reasoncnly expects a similar move in the case of the not honorable but inscrupulous Lungu resignation.

  23. Ichipuba chikulu nichi #28. Ichipubafye chituntulu. Chileyitukensele kwati chalipena. Umfumyeko ine boyi. Kuti wayisa uleyaninginya apa mukututuka, finshi twachita we shilu we. Walipena boyi, kabiye ku Chainama. Just go to Chainama, the medicine came last saturday, your priscription since on Friday when you went there, it had runout. Did you say you are on lorezopam?

  24. Power is so sweet yangu tata, it’s good to be in control of the country…
HE MCS is doing a very good job..
Tonga tribal Party l feel your pain, you are really in perkunaya mwandi
HH will cry you a river and the boat will come get you if you submit to us
    Abakali bakali guys
PF three more terms with our soon to be majority

  25. if Mwakalombe who made us lose our tax we paid to govt could be appointed into diplomatic service, now it another MP Lungu wasting our tax. If PF adopts him or appoints him as a diplomat, what can you say about Lungu’s resignation? It is PF responsible. How can you say PF is for the poor or wants to put more money in the pocket when you waste money thru by-elections?

  26. This nonsense can only be stopped through a good constitution, a penalty fee for such an MP. I have advocated that we find a way of blocking such MPs to contest for at least 10 years. The sad thing is that even the constitution making process is already a waste of time. Look at the composition of the committee of experts; and one can already see what the product will be, i.e pro PF and Bembas constitution

  27. #34, In your Katangese lingua, there is a saying that goes: “Ichishinka chila unfwisha icifukushi ku mutima”. There is enough precedent to prove your options and desires, ba kolwe imwe ala, are ofen very injurious to the fabric of this nation. Any people that elect a heart diseased plain embacile like Sata for president are lunatical. To applaud his stinking and expensive by-election toilet acrobatics is to say the least supremely g’u’t’l’e’s’s. I rest my case, “suntwe yebo, wa kasondokide pe!”. By tyhe way, next time you visit this site, write in English, not Lingala la Mobutu Tsese Seko!

  28. this constitution is whack!atase..why waste our money like that..?that chap should lose the seat now..!what kind of saving are you doing ba pf..?

  29. Some people don’t just seem to get it at all. This blunt headed tonga bull called Mweetwa just doesn’t understand that UPND cannot win a national election in one Zambia one nation as long as Tongas don’t change their ways and learn to intergrate. You have a long time to cry young man. Good luck in the 2072 elections.

  30. The constitution was fine 3 years ago now since the tables have turned they cry foul since they are broke and tired…Zambia’s is crying out for a new genuine opposition Party to step, these two are USELESS selfish chaps with selfish agendas!!

  31. This was typical during MMD reign, they used to poach PF MP’s with impunity. If UPND hates the by elections so much, they should have changed the constitution when they were in bed together during the NCC.

  32. Milupi did the same. Resigned from I dont know what and stood on ADD ticket and won in Western Province. Same thing. Did PF have anything to do with that? By the way Muchinga Province has 5 districst as of now, Mpika (bemba) Chinsali (Top soil Bemba) Isoka (Namwanga) Nakonde (namwanga) Mafinga (Tumbuka), Chama (Tumbuka). So clearly Muchinga province is not for Bemba people. Eish, get a life. Muchinga is here to stay and we from Muchinga are happy. Go hang yourself.
