Now DEC arrests Chikoti

Share

Police cordon off the entrance to the Drug Enforcement Commission

Things have turned sour for Bennedict Chikoti who went public to deny that his daughter Angela Busanga Chikoti had been arrested in Pakistan for drug trafficking.

Mr. Chikoti 68, of Ndola has now been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission for giving false information to public officers concerning his daughter.

When his daughter was arrested, Mr. Chikoti told Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper reporters that the person who was arrested in Pakistan was not his daughter but someone who might have stolen her passport.

DEC Acting Public Relations Officer, Samuel Silomba says on November, 6 2011, Chikoti gave information which he knew or believed to be false to journalists.

At the time of the interview Mr. Chikoti claimed he had spoken to his daughter who was safe and happily married in South Africa.

But further investigations by the Commission, proved that the women under arrest in Pakistan was Angela Busanga Chikoti.

Mr. Silomba says the arrest of Mr. Chikoti must serves as a warning to all the people that are bent on misleading public officers by providing false information.

  1. has Zambia become a police state where police can arrest people anyhow?Mr.Chikoti didn’t believe it was his daughter, like any father in shock would. And since when did it become an offense to give journalists false information. This is a violation of human rights

    • He knew the truth because he claimed he talked to his daughter on the material day. This is not a police state, their simply doing their job. Why do you people always get negative over every issue? It has always being a crime to give false information because it misleads people. Be realistic, do you really think it is right to lie honestly speaking!

    • Exactly, why should he be arrested for giving ”false” information to journalists,it’s not an offence unless he gave false information to law enforcement officers but if he truly spoke with his daughter then who should argue with him. Police should just do their investigations properly and not say this is a lesson to all.

  2. @1 Maria it not a crime to give journalists false infor but it is a crime to give false infor to the Police. Note the difference!

  3. @1 Maria

Don’t be daft, use your head, don’t advertise your sheer ignorance and stupid!ty on line like that. What police state? Serves Mr Chikota right for rushing to the press instead of going tothe Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These parts of the world have no mercy for Drug traffickers even if you are a muzunga or you flash a British or American passport, they will hang you till you die!!

    KEEP AWAY FROM DRUGS!!!

  4. Bushe ni chilya chi gelo balangile na ku ZNBC.chaliyumfwa saana for being out of jail after serving five years.let the father be arrested.

  5. voltron, you must be dull too just like maria. how could mr chikoti give false information about someone who has been released. i think you are the kind who just read the headline and comments. mr chikoti’ daughter was reportedly arrested in pakistan for drug trafficking and that he had spoken to his daughter after seeing the article in the paper.

  6. why even go to parkistan when you even hear about muslim brotherhood? they will snap you like in this case, especially if you dealing with drugs which they consider immorality in their religion. Anyway police have the right to question anybody with information and mr chikoti was such a person in this case.

  7. #3 and #6 a wise person once told me Never argue with an id iot. They bring you down to their level then beat you with experience.

  8. @8 Maria

Sadly my dear you don’t fit in the Wise category, so that doesn’t apply, next time think before you press submit!!!

  9. @10Maria

My dear I know you just wanted to be the first to comment the contents were irrelevant, i guess you achieved your objective!!!! kekekeke

  10. This is really Rubbish. What has the man done to deserve this. He simply did not know much about his daughter. Release him!!!!

  11. This is rubbish. Doesn’t DEC have officer that can fly to Pakistan and confirm. Don’t we have diplomats in Asia? Why can’t even defend one of our own, and ensure that they can be given a fair trial? Suppose they were tramped charges that are not even supposed to entertained? Isn’t a father allowed to hope for the better for his child? sick and dull police force. Please employ educated people. You are a shame to Zambia.

  12. The jackal and Maxwell – Did Mr Chikoti give misleading information to journalists or the police? Was he interviewed by the police?

  13. LET’S JUST HOPE WHEN THE PEOPLE IN POWER ARE QUESTIONED TO CERTAIN INFORMATION THEY TOO TELL THE TRUTH OTHERWISE WE EXPECT THEM TO BE LOCKED UP TOO. I DON’T KNOW THE STORY FULLY BUT GIVEN THE EXTENT SOME ZAMBIANS GO TO TO LIE TO THEIR FAMILIES ABOUT HOW THEY ARE ‘RESPECTABLE’ ‘MARRIED’ PEOPLE IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF THE FATHER DIDN’T KNOW THE TRUTH

  14. Very sad indeed to the old man,can you please let him free he has nothing to do with that, unless he is the one who sent the daughter to do that.

  15. This country has laws. Mr. Chikoti committed an offence for giving false information to Zambia Daily Mail reporters. IT IS WRONG to do that in Zambia.

  16. So in effect the law enforcement officers in Zambia also rely on the press for information instead of carrying out independent and more professional investigations, wow!
