The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has appointed Clement Wainyae Sinyinda as its new Prime Minister ( Ngambela) for Western Province.

Mr Sinyinda who originates from Situnda Village, headman Saela, Chief Kakene in Senanga district in Western Province today assumed new titles of Minyolui, Sope, and the Ngambela of Barotseland.

ZANIS reports from Mongu that the ceremony was characterised by ululations and beating of the royal drums when Mr. Sinyinda was installed as Ngambela at Lealui Royal Village in Mongu District this morning.

Mr.Sinyinda was Education Deputy Minister during the former MMD regime

Speaking after the installation, Induna Mutwaleti appealed to the people of Western Province to accord the new Ngambela with the respect he deserves.

Induna Mutwaleti noted that the appointment and installation of the Ngambela for the Province was a major cry of the lozi people for a long time.

He said the Ngambela is the spokes person of the Litunga and he is major link between the Litunga and the people of Barotseland.

Meanwhile, Provincial Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has commended the BRE for installing a new Ngambela.

Mr. Mubukwanu said government stands ready to support the BRE and its new Ngambela each time his office will be called upon.

The Installation ceremony was attended by a number of Silalo Indunas, Village headmen, the Provincial Minister Mr Nathanael Mubukwanu, Permanent secretary Mr Augustine Seyuba, Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr Mwangala Liomba, Mongu District Commissioner Piaus Mishengo and other traditional leaders in the province

  9. I admire the way culture iz being observed here and do hope that the “Prime Minister” tittle doez not become a source conflict. What iz the relationship of the Ngambela to Litunga in termz of authourity and the like?

  10. Minyolui taba yetuna ki tukuluho ya Bulozi. Lutaina kuisa lili mwa Buchabela? Barotseland expects alot from you. Congrats.

  11. Living Jay, answer to your question is that the Ngambela combines the roles of ‘leader of the people’, ‘chief administrator’ and ‘official spokesperson’ for Barotseland. These functions translate in the three titles bestored on him, namely; minyolui (lord of the alui), sope (prime minister or first commoner) and ngambela (the one who speaks for us). The Litunga is the Minyamupu-na-Ngombe (owner of all land and natural resources), he is also Kaongolo-ka-Nyambe (God’s pet snake) which depicts the combination of power and compasion reposed in him. Other titles for the Litunga include ‘Ngochana’ (calf) depicting the fact that he is a lovable and incorruptable center of attraction as well as source of life. Simply stated, the Litunga reigns and the Ngambela leads.

  12. I have known him tobe a coward and very dull. How he is going to work with such a cunning and corrupt Litunga is nobody’s guess only time will tell. Our Litunga is such a cunning man who disregards his Indunas’ advices, the Mongu disaster would not have ocurred if he had accepted the advice from Natamoyo and some of the indunas. The Mongu fracas and the blood of those young ones squarelly stands on his way, there is no way he can deny it.

  13. mutingulu,
that is great thanks.the Hon prime minister doesnt pass decisions but announces the recommendations of the BNA. in barotse style of administration, the voice of the people is the will of the minyolui and is sealed by elephant to bind. Finally, the natamoya has his Prime minister.Great moment for barotseland

  14. This article is poorly written by ZANIS. The Ngambela is for the Barotse Royal Establishment and not for Western Province. The immediate past Ngambela was Manyando Mukela who retired a few years ago and not late Maxwell Mutukwa who was Ngambela in the Seventies and Eighties until he retired.

    • It started life as a pond niddupg with a currant and sugar filling. The pastry on a good pond niddupg is supposed to break apart when you turn it out because it is loaded with juice. I then had the idea of creating a niddupg with a savoury filling.
