Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Given Lubinda has disclosed that Government has stepped up measures aimed at attracting economically gigantic investors to conduct business in Zambia.
Mr. Lubinda said Government would work hard towards engaging economic giants to invest in Zambia so as to create more job opportunities for Zambians.

He said Zambians were expecting more jobs to be created now that the Patriotic Front (PF) is in power.

The Minister said government was therefore working on fulfilling the promises the PF made in the pre-election campaigns which earned the party support of many Zambians.

Mr. Lubinda said the creation of more job opportunities would be done side by side with the fight against corruption.

He said corruption erodes investor confidence hence it should be fought mercilessly.

Mr. Lubinda said genuine investors feared to conduct business in a corrupt infested society because they know their business cannot thrive.

He said this when he wound up his ten days working visit to the United States of America.

While in the US, Mr. Lubinda attended the 40th annual convention of the Safari Club International in Las Vegas where at least 20 Zambian safari operators were exhibiting and held various meetings with US government officials in Washington DC

  1. Lubinda ,it seems you are the only one working hard to bring Investors but tell your colleagues to stop issueing alarming statements about Kwacha currency Please!!

  2. we are waiting for Obama who you invited. Your Pf party has no plan but just alarming the nation and confiscating 46 bags of mealie leal from GK. sata is full of hate and has no room in his head to think of development. 46 bags, 2 sewing machines sure mwebantu and you call it corruption. atase

  3. Sounds very unusual of a PF minister to talk about attracting foreign investment. At home the Govt is being perceived as doing exactly the opposite. They are anti-business, anti-foreign investors and seems to have no economic plan.

  4. Totally ignorant and disillusioned Lubinda. Ask professional Zambian diaspora who understand the American interest better. Unlike Chinese risk takers, Americans are highly aversive more the fact that the US has many internal challenges to risk investment resources in Zambia at a grand scale you are ignorantly dreaming about. They invested in Argentina and other South American unstable economies, corporate America is neither impulsive nor daft fault themselves under your unstable flip flopping regime PF that is.

  5. You are better off tapping wealth from Zambian diaspora community whose remittances are hitting over US $500 million. Give them dual citizenship and clear cut policies instead of your changanya they will take up every sector and move Zambia where it deserves leaving you clueless dry bones mesmerized. Its Zambian diaspora who will bring sustainable opportunities with their intellectual capital, resources, ingenuity, work culture, ethics, skill-sets and webs of networks not the utopia of PF.

  6. Since when did you see these plutocrats develop a third world country? Singapore founding father Lee Kuan Yew was challenged but he fell on his people first to transform his country than your so called foreign Giants. Create room for Zambian Dangotes instead of your hollow hoaxes of daily alarming the nation with drivel and doom.

  7. Ati Nationalists for re-nationalization. Being clueless is not only an affront but a curse on the nation if its on the executive leadership.

  8. Mr. jere, please form a taskforce like the one in northern province so that you are advised properly which cases to follow and not this one. No,no,no please.46 bags of maize meal, not impressive.Ask Mwamba from kasama he will give you proper advice.

  9. if you can’t manage the ‘small’ investors you have, how can you attract the ‘gigantic investors’, Lubinda? We know u can do better, unfortunately u surround urself with dander heads, ur efforts are in futility

  10. The problem that nags these guys is that they inherited solid economic programmes which they find difficult to beat. They mistakenly think that they must outdo the MMD if they are to impress their supporters. Please be advised that you will not succeed on that path, but you WILL certainly succeed if you BUILD on what you found rather than try to outdo RB’s achievements. All normal people the world over build on what they find or inherit which is why the West is where it is today. That is the meaning of “Rome was not built in a day”. So bo Lubinda, be advised that the best and most willing foreign investors are the “small” guys and NOT the giants who see no value in a small economy like Zambia. If you have no ideas of your own use those of others, you reap the same results.

  11. Lubinda take extra care of yourself.Your good leadership qualities may make your pf friends feel intimidated and harm you

  12. ” Government has stepped up measures aimed at attracting economically gigantic investors to conduct business in Zambia. ”

That is old-fashioned, neoliberal thinking. Let Zambians create their own jobs – make credit available, lower bank lending rates, and people will start their own businesses and employ themselves. That way the country is not given away to foreign corporations.

I wish the PF government would exchange ideas with non-neoliberal economists and people in the diaspora.

Big is not best, small business, small irrigation projects, that is the way to go.

  13. ha ha ha ha. All the best to Lubinda who seems to be much better thinker than the head of state. While Lubinda is trying his best, the other Ministers and their relatives are blackmailing investors to get out of Zambia so that they can confiscate their wealth. We Zambians are expert in fooling others. But the world has woken up to our lies. The investors will not be fooled this time. The Zamtel and Pepsi cases have enough reasons for the investors to keep away and take money to other countries like Ghana, which has been declared a better democracy than Zambia. I wish I am proved wrong (not by some letters here), by seeing real investment flowing into Zambia.

  14. America is not the best place to look to for investors. They, like Europe, are broke and what keeps them going on is just their big name. Wise leaders are now looking to Asia especailly to China. So pf has misplaced priorities. Anyway Lubinda is the only one doing a good job for zambia at the moment but sadly he is among vultures who know nothing on governance but retribution and peddling of lies to incliminate others. Sata is busy building a defacto one party state where there must be no opposition. membe is the schemer through his post but thank god they won’t manage.

  15. Filling natural aquifers is much better than building dams – and we all know politicians penchant for large dams.

Go to youtube com, and type in: permaculture water harvesting

Using swales is much cheaper, and they can be used to store water in the soil. Low cost, zero evaporation.

  16. PF are ideologically bankrupt. They have no idea what big American business can do to the environment, people and the politics of Zambia. Ask Chile how Allende was deposed by big business. Or ask Iran how American and British big business deposed their democratic government and installed the Shah in 1953. Lubinda does not know anything about political history of the US. Imperialism supported apartheid, and continues via Neo-liberal economic policies we have had since 1991. As such, an average Zambian is now worse off than in 1991.

  17. All very well to talk about bringing in investors if you can. The bottom line in these efforts is to empower the Zambian!! We should have in place policies that adequately cover the Zambian in foreign companies wishing to operate here. Joint Ventures and directorship positions in new companies would be a start, otherwise you are continueing to promote neo colonialism or development at the expense of the Zambian.

  18. Hmm. I still don’t think PF got the memo that they are in power. A man with a plan would have said something specific. To be this cryptic only makes sense if you are in opposition and you don’t want other to steal your ideas.
This vague statement PF has made confirms what we are all thinking: PF has no idea what they are doing.

  19. I wish theyd do something about the high crime rate spiralling out of control in zambia, criminals are operating with impunity now. Investors cant come in a place like that.

  20. Lubinda, You are doing well please carry on with your noble duties as a minister. The American tourists if attracted to the Safari Hunting can bring in the needed income and jobs in the tourist industry. Dollar
