Mwinilunga District Commissioner Victor Kayekesi has refuted media reports alleging that the 2012 recruitment exercises of nurses at Kalene school of nursing was marred with corruption.

Mr Kayekesi told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview that the article published in one of the on line newspapers was false and defamatory in nature.

The article published alleged that the recruitment and selection process of candidates to undergo training as nurses at Kalene school of nursing in Ikelengi district of North-Western province was characterized with corruption.

He explained that the panel appointed to carry out the recruitment exercise was chosen according to the Ministry of Health and General Nursing Council guidelines and standards.

Mr Kayekesi wondered why the aggrieved person chose to rush to the media instead of reporting the matter to the Police or District Commissioner’s office.

He said at no time did his office receive any complaint from the general public in the manner the recruitment exercises was conducted.

Mr Kayekesi stated that a competent selection committee was instituted to carry out interviews comprising of officers from the Office of the Vice President, District Education Board Secretary (DEBS),Community representative, Human Resources Management Officer, Clinical Tutors, Dsitrict Medical Officer and Midwife for the district.

Meanwhile Kalene Mission Hospital Executive Director, John Woodfield said the mission is dismayed at the malicious article.

Dr Woodfield said the selection process was transparent and free from malpractices as opposed to the reported story in the on line media.

He disclosed that the selection committee was verbally abused and threatened for simply sticking to the stipulated guideline by the General Nursing Council and Ministry of Healthy by those who did not meet the criteria for entry.

Dr Woodfield said the panel strictly adhered to the stipulated standards and selected deserving candidates without biasness.

“I am very disappointed that a news website such as Zambia Watchdog, which prides itself on presenting accurate information to the public, would publish such unsubstantiated allegations from anonymous people.

Investigative journalism would be able to confirm that the DEBS and Senior nursing officer are both female, and would also be able to confirm that no one can be selected without achieving the appropriate grade 12 qualifications first as all grades are independently reviewed by the General Nursing Council,” he complained.

Dr Woodfield said the author of the defamatory and malicious article wants to deliberately undermine members of the selection panel who were tasked to carry out the recruitment exercise with unfounded reports.

  1. NO WONDER THERE WAS CORRUPTION BECAUSE AS FAR AS I KNOW THE SELECTION OF STUDENT NURSES MUST BE DONE BY TUTORS WITH THE HELP OF NURSES IN ADMINISTRATION. WHY DO YOU DO NEED PEOPLE FROM OFFICE OF VICE PRESIDENT AND MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AT DISTRICT LEVEL TO SELECT STUDENT NURSES? ACTUALLY IT IS THE ATTEMPTED EXPLANATION THAT HAS NOW EXPOSED THE LOOP HOLES IN THE SELECTION PROCESS. WHAT DO TEACHERS NO ABOUT NURSING? STOP THAT RUBBISH IN OUR COUNTRY OF CALLING PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT NURSES TO MEDDLE IN NURSING ISSUES. DO TEACHERS EVER CALL NURSES TO CHOOSE THEIR STUDENTS? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU NURSES, WHY CAN YOU NOT DO THINGS ON YOUR OWN? NO WONDER A LOT OF YOUR FRIENDS LEFT THE COUNTRY BECAUSE YOU HAVE HAD MSIDI AT GNC FOR 30 YEARS AS IF IT IS PERSONAL TO HOLDER POST.

  2. People with little brains will always complain and see corruption in every nook and cranny. The selection committee can come from any profession. Let the accusing person bring his or her results before we can accuse the panel of interviewers of corruption.

  3. IT IS NOT ABOUT SMALL BRAINS SEEING CORRUPTION AND COMPLAINING BUT ABOUT PROFESSIONALISM. THAT WHITE MAN DR WOODFIELD DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT CORRUPTION IS AND HOW MANIPULATIVE ZAMBIANS CAN BE. THEY CAN BURY BILLIONS OF KWACHA IN THE GROUND AND THEY CAN DIVERT FARMING EQUIPMENT THAT ARE MEANT TO BE FOR THE COMMUNITY TO THE FARMS OF POLITICIANS. SO DO NOT GET WHO ARE NOT NURSES TO DO CHOOSE STUDENT NURSES, THEY ARE ALREADY CONTAMINATED WITH BAD IDEAS FROM WHERE THEY COME FROM. THE ONLY OUTSIDERS I KNOW WHO COME DURING INTERVIEWS OF NURSES ARE THOSE WHO CONDUCT THEORY TEST AND THESE DO IT FOR ALL COLLEGES. WHAT HAS AN EDUCATION OFFICER TO DO WITH NURSING? WHY NOT CALLING PEOPLE FROM THE DISTRICT HEALTH OFFICE TO ASSIST? A WRONG WILL NEVER BE RIGHT I TELL YOU EVEN IF YOU EXPLAIN MILLION TIMES

  4. ZAMBIA MY COUNTRY kindly provide evidence of corruption so that govt moves in not these empty lengthy statements.

  5. Dr John is being economical with the TRUTH. His response in many respects tarry with the whistle blower’s claim. It’s not in dispute that the Black jeep the claimant alluded to has been admitted by Dr John. It’s not in dispute that the TWO female prospective nursing students (interviewees) were with the interviewer in the black jeep (Dr John in fact says he was behind that car in his white land cruiser ,when those interviewees were dropped off). It’s again not in dispute that these interviewees shared the same lodge with the interviewers and in fact Dr john even confirmed that these interviewees have had meals in the same restaurant……why where they allowed to share same lodge…
The whistle blower has facts and truth in the CORRUPTION at KALENE NURSING SCHOOL

  6. The whistle blower has facts and truth in the CORRUPTION at KALENE NURSING SCHOOL which Dr John has directly and indirectly admitted too. Women being an exploitated species, coupled with the high levels of unemployment in Zambia, Many Training schools like KASIYA SECRETARIAL COLLEGE, and KALENE alike are feasting on these desperate girls and spreading HIV/AIDS indiscriminately.Govt MUST ACT laws (like in Norway) to protect such women and girls being forced into sex just for a school or employment place (ass favours) Such laws must be framed like the Norway system ( It’s the respondent’s burden to prove his innocence against the victim’s claim and evidence -not the other way round) this will deter impunity by such colleges and stop degrading treatments of women. We have an ACTION GOVT

  7. just name the person who had abused the interviewed students if you have facts. kk said you win some and lose some. Kalene like any other college can not accept all the prospective students who turned up. #Mulundu too, you failed to shed some light on the Norway laws. what does the Norway law on selecting students say?

  8. @Seseseko, the issue is not student selection,Malundu too is talking about ,but the CORRUPTION and SEX by officials at KALENE Nursing school and other colleges alike. Dr John in his response above,he has not disputed the whistle blower’s facts. As for the sex Law in Norway and Sweden….Google, sex law in Norway and read it. It’s inspiring to import such laws to Zambia,to punish such KALENE officials, who have no morals and full of corrupt intent…
