Young Leaders Alliance, a Youth Non Governmental Organisation(NGO) is uncomfortable with the move by the US-based Carter Centre to engage, former Zambian president, Rupiah Banda to lecture Democracy in the USA.
The Youth NGO feels the engagement is primarily premised on the fact that the Center is acting in grave inconsistence with their guiding and fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering.
It is also strongly felt that the center is additionally driven by the desire to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy among other tenets of democratic governance.
In a statement Young Leaders Alliance president, Pharaoh Mwanza strongly criticizes the move alleging that Mr. Banda did not fully live up to the tenets of democratic governance during the time that he was Zambia’s president.
Mr. Mwanza adds that since the Carter Center also stands for the protection of human rights, it would be interesting to know what they make of the January 14 killings in Mongu presided over by Mr. Banda’s government against un-armed citizens who were exercising their freedom of expression.

What is DEMOCRACY? If u answer this question u will not say much about RB lecturing.
Exactly what I had echoed on another post. He (RB) has too many unresolved issues in Zambia and the one of the most serious one among many is the January 14 killings in Mongu presided over by Mr. Banda’s government against un-armed citizens who were exercising their freedom of expression. Those peopele should not have been slaughtered in the interest of mainting “peace” in Zambia as RB put it at the time. Corruption allegations are mounting on his table regarding his office and the cabinet. Yes granted, he has been invited to go to the US but if he’s truly a leader who has ethics and a spine, his first priority should be to get his name cleared in all instances. Be real RB, if you have nothing to hide then, lay ALL your cards on the table.
I observe that YOUR POSTINGS ARE FULL OF HATRED FOR RB.Please state issues that he has to settle with tangible and compelling evidence otherwise tone down. For once hold a balanced view on issues by acknowledging that every human being has the positive and negative side. Peace loving people do not magnify the negative side of an individual. The african traditional values(if at all you are african and zambian) demand that you respect elders. The bible (if at all you are christian) demands that you respect leaders. RB was our President at a very critical time in the Zambian history at least remember how he led the in those trying moments and appreciate him.REDUCE YOU TONE AND DEBATE POLITELY.
The hell is wrong w/ that?give the old man a break.instead of talkin bout how u gon mek PF start creatin jobs 4 youths u’re hatin’ on RB.talk bout somethin’ worth drawin the nation’s attention.shoo
Well Mr misguided youth (you must be Mwansa not Mwanza :-) ), the Carter Centre is a respected institution in America and the rest of the world. First go to school and then you will appreciate their decision to invite RB. Anyway, that is what it means to be an educated president, other educated people see and value your knowledge and will always consult or use your knowledge.
iwe chi pharaoh kufipa navimeno kuipa..leave the man alone..he has earned himself credibility!!!just becoz you are PF!!!!!!!!!
jealousy down, RB is a statesman unlike pafwaka ya chamba.
This NGO is sponsored by PF. We all know where they pick their monthly cheque from and the PF will also be made to account all this money being wasted on cadres. This Pharoah Mwanza better be careful, he will be arrested alone when time comes. Zambia is going to go backwards over the next 4 years BIG TIME! What does the NGO know about democracy that it can teach the Americans??? U Fontini kupaka – nzelu zili che pa kudya na ku.nya iwe Mwanza… Just shut up.
I hope you are paying your dues. Let RB go and share his knowledge and experience. This is good for our country. I would also like to invite our President to UK to share with us how he won the elections and his experience of running the country so far. Yes!
Imwe ba PF u are liars even those accusations are lies. Since u came to existence u have never said the truth just mention one truth with ur leader. Abt mongu riots rb was not mentioned in ur coi
Sata and Mmembe always chock at people’s success. They are chocking by RB’s recognition as statesman
This group is correct!
so we will be rubbing shoulders with him in atl…..let hi come coz i have one question for hi.
KUDOJA IMILANDU ALEFWAYAFYE UYU RB. WE KNOW, DONT LET HIM GO.
“Kano nga nibo”, where God says yes, who are you to say no, justshut up and find a better way of asking for employment to feed your family.
some guys are born winners. shoot them down and they keep smiling back to glory. God pliz make me an RB.
Pharoah Mwanza who is Chola Boy for Finance bank owner Mahtani. So, it is Mahtani not Mwanza speaking here
Anybody would think that it will be Pharoa Mwanza paying for RB’s ticket and upkeep in the US. The Carter Foundation can spend its money however it chooses. For some of us RB was and will always be more of a democrat than Chilufyana who did not practice internal democracy in pf for the ten years it was in opposition and who is currently undermining democracy in Zambia as we speak.
I am sure if those lectures will be attended by a Zambian student, he will fail. What is he going to tell students, that in a democracy u dont suppress people who are trying to express their views? did he do that?
PULL HIM DOWN SYNDROME, FUSEKE!YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO? FIND A LIFE. IF YOU HAVE NO CAUSE TO FIGHT, QUIT. BY THE WAY, WHEN WAS THIS NGO REGISTERED? ANDELEKE SHUD ANSWER
Rb is a hero,he HANDED OVER POWER TO U PATHETIC FOOLS Â IN A DEMOCRATIC WAY.LEAVE HIM ALONE.WHY SO JEALOUS?WHETHA U LIKE Â IT OR NOT HE IL BE REMEMBERED THE WHOLE WORLD AS A HERO OF DEMOCRACY
WELL THE YOUTH GROUP THINK THEY OWN RB AND HE SHOULD BEHAVE THE WAY THEY WANT. THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE AVOIDED CIVIL WARS IN ZAMBIA BECAUSE PRESIDENTS HAVE HANDED OVER POWER TO THE NEWLY VOTED FOR PRESIDENT. CHILUBA TRIED TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE FOR THE THIRD TERM CAMPAIGN THAT WAS HEADED BY MICHAEL SATA. LEAVE THE MAN TO ENJOY HIS LIFE AFTER STATE HOUSE. JUST MOURN FOR YOUR FUTURE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF YOUR CURRENT PRESIDENT.
Pharaoh Mwanza? Going by your name, I can deduce you’re a very confused chap. If the Carter Centre and Boston University see it fit to invite RB to lecture in the US, who are you to question it with your unknown NGO? RB is an educated man who is sober minded and mature. The lunatic we now have in State House is the exact opposite.
please stop wasting time on old horses and try raising new ones. You have got a long future ahead. Let it go and leave RB to live whatever is ramaining of his life
RB is a states man, Mr PMwanza you will die with you jelous!
Silly NGOs,how stupid are you? What the F**K is wrong with you? Everyone they will get what they deserve at the end of the day…The world is watching us (Zambia). This is what Mr Banda deserves,The Carter Center has rewarded him accordingly.Even Sata will get what he deserves, the world knows what zambia is passing through right now (confusion)..Who are you to stop this? Foolish NGOs and your Foolish Govt you want to bring everyone down just because you are grade 7s? RB was not perfect just like all other former presidents, but honestly he was better than Sata who has no idea on developmental issues…This is the Downfall of zambia…….Kiss my A** !!!!!!!!!
it painful at time to learn to some of these chaps who believe talking in opening your mouth. shameful chap this youth something
The Carter center is short of speakers and they chance at all those out of favour former presidents, especially African presidents. How come i never heard of George Bush,Clinton,Mbeki,Mandela,Tony Blair or even old Arap Moi going there to give lectures. The aim of the center is to just give some semblence of relevance to stubborn former presidents and make them feel a bit needed and useful and drive them into retirement peacefully. Why didn t he go to lecture at Rusangu University which honoured  him with a degree?
