Government clarifies reports that there are Angolan troops in Mongu

Share

Defense Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba

Government has clarified that there are no Angolan troops in Mongu. Defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba has told journalists in Lusaka today that the troops that are in Mongu are Zambian soldiers who are in the area for routine operations.

Yesterday deputy defence minister Colonel Panji Kaunda told QFM in an exclusive interview that the troops that were spotted in Mongu could be from Angola, insinuations his superior has refuted.

The Deputy Minister was responding to a story that had earlier been published by an online publication that government had deployed troops to Mongu to keep vigil on the planned Barotse National Council meeting.

Mr. Mwamba explained that soldiers during their routine operations are sent to different parts of the country and that it is only coincidental that the operations this time around are being done in Mongu at a time the Barotse national council meeting is taking place.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani is in the Mongu to check on the security status ahead of the forthcoming Barotse National Council (BNC).

She said police will not stop people from exercising their rights but allow them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.

And Western Province Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba has praised the police service in the province for maintaining law and order amidst many challenges they are facing.

Mr. Seyuba said the current situation of peace and order in the province was due to the hard work and professionalism the service has exhibited.

He appealed to the Inspector General to consider addressing the many challenges which officers face in combating crime in the province.

Mr. Seyuba said areas such Sichili, Shangombo and Mitete in Lukulu district do not have police stations, a situation that has led to an increase in the number of hired assassin cases in the region.

  1. When will these people become coherent in whatever they wish to inform the nation? How did Panji become a colonel if he can choose to alarm the nation in such a manner as having foreign troops on our soil without facts? We are really in trouble but then I was not part of creating this mess though now being affected cos I knew.

  2. Best commedy ever.Take this to Bollywood. On serious note,it can never be coincidental for those soldiers to be in Mongu. You are suppressing the Lozis when you as government have failed to even call for a transparent meeting with concerned stakeholders. Will the drama ever come to an end?

  3. What kind of government is this. Everything they say turns out to be wrong. Shoddy characters. This country is in trouble. I wonder where the rule of the know-nothings will end up. So uyu naye apepa mbanje, munzake naye ku State House will say something else. Ba sakala aba!

    • Awe, once in a while they are right about things, but they are much too biased and prone to gossip. So many of their “articles” are just unsubstantiated gossip. At least Lusakatimes doesn’t seem as partial to one side or have stories that are as salacious. And zwd, they can even ban your comments if they criticize the website or the article, but here when comments don’t go through, it seems more to just be a random error. Although both sites would do better if they didn’t allow some of the more ugly comments.

  4. On a serious note,by sending those soldiers to WP GRZ has demonstrated that Zambia has always invaded Barotseland.Sending soldiers there has not solved the problem.Instead it has worsened the situation. With modern advanced communication systems, people are watching what is happening. There will come a time, may be hundreds of years from now, when this problem will explode

  5. So Hon Mwamba is telling us that there is a problem between the PF government and the people of western province. What is this problem?

  6. So we are being told that there is a problem between the PF government and the people of western province. What is this problem?

  7. So we are being told that there is a problem between the government and the people of western province. What is this problem?

  8. Thanks for the clarification humpty dumpty! Col Panji almost got us into some serious trouble with his earlier careless statement regarding Angolan soldiers? Ukwa’s govt has had 6 months in office but still don’t seem to be settled. One minute Bob Sichinga is claiming China printed trillions of fake kwacha, next Kambwili claims health workers salaries have been doubled, now Panji would have us believe the Angolan army are loitering in our back yard? Ukwa is clearly not in charge of his ship and his erratic leadership seems to be having a trickle down effect. As for GBM, why not just admit that you’ve sent soldiers to W. Province to quell any unforeseen violent protests that might arise from their crucial meeting. Honesty is far better than this daily circus we’re being subjected to.

    • My bro you are really right Ukwa’s gvt is now behaving like marketeers. How do they share Infomation before sneding it to the public, one wonders who is incharge of this Ukwa bag.It seems everyone is in a hurry to be heard on the air. This ridiculus.

  9. How would Mwamba know this when he was in South Africa caring for his hospitalized wife whom he beat up?

  10. So Panji’s boss can tell a “better” story. Then the boss’s boss can do even “better”. Hey guys, he is back, who is being shuffled or appointed next? Nanga imwe wa Sebastian, when is the next COI, and have you finalised the budget for the second NCC disguised as “technical experts” on constitution?

  11. What I fail to understand is why people choose to tell lies when the truth would do just as well and even better. By the way ZNBC TV 19.00hrs news has just reported that “…….Mr Mwamba said this at an impromptu press briefing at State House this afternoon…….” Panic?

  12. We’re now used to such inconsistencies from our Ministers, it doesn’t surprise us at all.
In fact it would have been a huge surprise if Panji and  GBM spoke the same language!

  13. Today in parliament Dr Scott has listed the companies that carried out renovations at State House but has not answered the question of how the contracts were awarded, preferring to make unsubstantiated claim that tender procedures were followed. PF, please remove the log in your eyes before you remove the spec in your neighbour’s eyes, or to put it straight, don’t practice corruption if you want to accuse others of corruption.

  14. #15 Dr.Scott
I heard what Guy Scott said in Parliament at 18 hours Qfm main news and his response did not sound as coming from someone fighting corruption.PF will be the worst in terms of corruption. The fight is just to hoodwink their cadres while conducting massive corruption ever as evidenced by Guy’s response today.

  15. Pipo want to hv their meeting u send troops of soldiers! cowards!leave others alone.u ll never stop them kinakoooo!!!

  16. .
Sata and Lubinda, Panji Kaunda & Mwamba are not reading the same Instruction Manual. This is becoming very alarming and it’s beyond catastrophic of errors.

    The government is lacking
    (I) Protocol (II) Code of Conduct, (III) Modus Operandi, (IV) Procedure, (V) Set of Rules.

  17. This is very, very, very embarrassing! PF, get your act together like mature people!! How in hell can a depute defence minister not know the movements of his forces in the country and says something as alarming as this? Is Western province the new Moxico for the Angalona troops to be moving freely without being intercepted by our defense wings?

Don’t you people get security briefings every morning? If not, you should start because such utterances border on very serious National Security. I am sure Angola ain’t happy about this eithee! Come on now, this comedy needs to stop, it is not funny anymore!!!!!

  18. .
Panji of all people should know when to say and how to say matters that concerns the army. He was schooled in the Army. One of these two chaps is telling a lie.

Should we expect another reshuffle in the next few days from Sata?

  19. Hired assassin cases! Whoa. Wild wild West comes to Zed. Just when you calm me down by telling me the Angolan posse are not in town you inform me Don Corleone operates coz there are no sherriffs in certain areas. Pass me my meds :) I weaned myself off TV coz I got hooked on drama. Note to self. Must stop reading Zed political blogs. New job. Writing Zed thrillers. Won’t run out of plot lines. Moving back to Zed to launch my commercial fiction slash political thrillers. Discounted heavily for all LT bloggers :)

  20. Ok! So I’ll say they printed money in China, then you say the pposite. Then you say diasporans don’t come home and I’ll say they must come! On the same day he will claim there are foreign troops in Mongu, and you say something else! It’s great to have the press running to us for stories! Oh yes! Bones!Thiko soething really intelligent to say about my nephew from Garden. The one who is doing up my new permanent residence! These *****s thought they were voting for a leader? Hahaha!!! I’m a ruler!

  21. No tender on renovation of Statehouse contract given to nephew Bashi Bwembya. Zambia is seeing worst kin of institutionalized corruption just about drag the country into doom and crises.

President Uncle, Defacto Vice President and Ministry of Finance minister and deputies both nephews. Secretary to the treasury both in marriage, PS mulamu, Directors nephews and some nice while BOZ deputy Governor is cousin. If this is not institutionalized corruption, then Zambia needs a new curriculum of anti corruption. In all this bizarre development, where are Zambians?

    • I agree with Marlena I am a mum of 2 kids school aged and work 3 days a week i have tueasdys and fridays available but only between 9am and 2pm . i would like to do a group session as well Kate

  22. Zambia is seeing worst kind of institutionalized corruption just about to dump the country into doom and some historic crisis ever seen since birth of this nation.

  23. … The analyst stared thoughtfully at the report. Could the independent rumourmonger really have a deep throat? The Nubian princess patiently waited for him to come to a decision. He cleared his throat,

‘I have no choice but to call in a sharp shooter,’ he mumbled, ‘Someone with a big pipe like Kinako or perhaps a good manager.’

‘What about Yamba Yamba?’ She suggested, ‘Or Bungwe.’

Snapping his fingers, he grinned widely, ‘I was going to suggest a pan Africanist but we should let that problem child A Phiri handle this. Agreed? I’ll run it by Maxwell, Dr Sott and Ba Kaboke.’

  24. does anyone doubt anymore why the PF-UPND pact failed? This is a govt of comedy. Can anyone chronicle the events as it can make a best seller. No wonder Parliament is forced to ratify things now like names of airports which were done today. No wonder KK used to stand with a

  25. #26 A Phiri anabwela – I like your screen writing prowess, let collaborate:

    Scene 1 . State House

GBM is seen walking across the lawn, a monkey nipping at his heels. His belly fat rolling and bouncing like a giant pizza dough

Sata: Iwe Bwalya, do we have Angola soldiers in Mongu
    GBM: Kwati

  26. LOL @#28 Nubian Princess

That was so funny and so right. When will these PF guys ever get it right? Looks like the right hand does not know what the left hand is up to. No wonder fitch has no faith in us. Bunch of Jokers and it makes RB look professional,(professional thief). He must be laughing with Thandie and saying”look at these fools, at least I stole and still managed to remain dignified”

  27. @ Kinako – Honoured like a pilgrim :)

@ Nubian Princess – laughing so hard the tears are flowing. Anytime :)

  28. Mr Sata needs to deal with his government.

His ministers of our defence are all over each other.

It is beginning to be embarassing now. Can he please replace the guys toying with us by lying. Someone is telling lies, because they cannot both be telling the truth.

  29. Since when did Zambian soldiers start talking Portuguese and comprising half light skinned “mullatos”? This is was, just watch what will happen in Barotseland this week. This is all Sata needed to spark the demise of Zambia. And the contradictions continue, while in Botswana yesterday Sata asked Zambians there to go back home and develop Zambia while Lubinda just the day before in his advanced party said the direct opposite. If any one still thinks Zondwe has a clue on how to develop this nation, they better have their head tested for masalamusi.

  30. and you think pipo mu diaspora will be keen to be back, katwikalefye mwe after all zambia is a pot to use and then damp

  31. They could be Angolan soldiers, and you do not know what the hell they are doing on our soil.Panji get serious.

  32. professionalism is not option for any government official. even in your lies you ought to show some professionalism. consult machiaveli, you banch of unschooled chancers.

  33. Bloggers: All outside Zambia talking nonsense. All you do is criticise and you can’t even travel to VOTE. Go and vote and don’t just say, nshaliko ine. Ba kolwe. Atleast I voted for PF what about you.

  34. yaba..these pathetic fools..what on earth..?when will you ever learn to coordinate..?communication..chaps be sharp and learn!!

  35. If the deployment of soldiers in WP is a routine exercise, why not start with another province and give room to WP to resolve the issue of the school girls impregnanted by the so called peace keepers?

  36. Panji reached the rank of Col coz of his father KK……otherise he is material for a corporal… I miss Maj wezi kaunda! Panji njala yenze inamunyokola…manje akuta angosabaila…dont play with Angola panji!

  37. wat a colonel!panji is a disgrace to the military family,a colonel is a senior army officer i wonder hw he gat there.ths issue of the right hand nt knowing wat the left hand is doing is getting out of hand. Can the cobra start taking charge of this sinking boat.Ministers are supposed to liase wth the MOD PS &they wl b gvn wat there ar supposed to say.panji don tel us wat u thnk can u get the data frm the pipo on the ground.twanaka ba feecolour.take heed

  38. There is Army office in Mongu and a barack in Kaoma. Its disappointing to see Panji making such statements. Thus very alarming. There is too much unrest in the country. Can Ukwa show leadership for once.

  39. PF and self contradiction, what a team. Who selected this team, who voted for them? wasted five years, wasted opportunity to develop. Kaponyas at work, what will be the results Dochi Kubeba. Who thought of this slogan Dochi Kubeba for PF, may he is the only smart person in this party knowing how much won’t work and he/she decided not to tell the nation. Where is Chanda Chimba III may be he is the only brave soul in this country.

  40. The journalist who interviewed Panji must be very raw. Why didn’t he find out from Panji what the Angolan soldiers were doing in Mongu? Now we do not know who to believe between Panji and GBM. We are now waiting for the other deputy defence minister (Lungu) to say something on the matter. Maybe he will come up with a sensible explanation.

  41. COUNTRY men is high time we changed the direction of the nation our beloved country mother Zambia,Our parents/grandparents driving the nation have already done their part in the past, there is no miracle they can do to bring change now,Is only the young generation with fresh blood and idea can drive it better!

  42. …Agent Gundix slammed the report down in front of the Zed poor people.

‘You deserve better!’ He said tightly, ‘I am no senior citizen but I have blue blood like you.’ He whirled around to face the Litunga, ‘Do you approve of this zero option, Mfumu?’
The Litunga shrugged, ‘My boundaries are re-aligned daily so I have written an appeal to see.’
‘No time!’ snapped the Field Marshall, ‘A Phiri is already engaged with the liberal democrat and on the way to consult bashi K. Tione what happens in chapter 5 as Stamford, Kenjibee and

  43. …and Sofien will assess the damage and report back.’

‘Yaba,’ the Litunga murmured, ‘I hope we have not been hoodwinked.’

‘No Sir.’ The field marshall was firm, ‘A Phiri is not here to make enemies. Just present you with…’ he smiled, ‘…friendly Portuguese options.’

  44. A Phiri sent the message of Sikezi to the Angolans hiding in the bushes. Their leader read the imperfect translation and smiled his approval.

‘God bless Zambia.’ he whispered as he thought of his Lozi great grandmother.

  45. Pipo this is serious, for wat iz ukwa sending Tankers, armed cars, plenty of ammunisions to mongu?wat operation is this?why is he provoking war in the country by these acts he is not solving but stirig the already volatile stuation.Remember LOZIS fully angly this may cause them counterchallenge it can be devastating to our peace.

  46. Catalog of contradiction continue. The other day it was Sata and Lubinda and now Panji and Mwamba. No direction at all from the leadership, how can the nation have hope? Is it any wonder that a name has been coined – UKWA?

  47. GBM, panji and yo govt u are liars, there has never been any operation carried out in Mongu, even when there was war in Aongola when refugees were coming to Zambia- through Shangombo, kalabo, we had not seen the heavy presence of soldiers. One thing u nid to no is the more u are sending yo Dogs, soldiers and police officer the more u ar raising the tempers high of.Whether with or without those, Bulozi shall detach from Zambia soonest. Mr. Sata admit that you have failed to lead the country.

  48. Prayers for Ava, her family and her frnides. This story has touched my life and many others lives Stay strong baby girl you have a life to live and show these people you can do it. Over power the man who was careless and irresponsible and did harm You are precious and beautiful . <3 you
