Zambians feel cheated -HH

United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that Zambians feel cheated by the many promises the Patriotic Front made prior to the 2011 elections which it has failed to fulfill.

Mr Hichilema said that it is important that the Patriotic Front governs according to the expectations of the Zambian people. He said that the PF promised to look into the welfare of workers and better the living standards of Zambians among other promises it made to the people during the campaigns.

Mr Hichilema said the reported proposed salary increment of four percent to civil servants is therefore a mockery. He said that it was important that the many promises that the PF made to the people of Zambia are fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Chief Chikanta of Kalomo District has called on all Zambians to assist President Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front-PF Government deliver development. In a statement to ZANIS in Choma today, Chief Chikanta urged all traditional leaders in the province to assist President Sata and the PF government deliver on its promises to the Zambian people.

He said Chiefs must assist the government to implement programmes meant to develop the rural parts of the country. “As traditional leaders in Southern Province we support the fight against corruption and programmes aimed at reducing poverty, employment creation and good governance,” he said.

Chief Chikanta said on September 20, 2011, the people of Zambia gave President Sata a mandate to govern the country for the next five years and that it was only important that all well-meaning Zambians assisted him to effectively fulfil his mandate.

He urged all chiefs in the country to work with the government of the day to foster development in the rural parts of the country.

    • If you set out to go to Mumbwa from Lusaka, you don’t have to cover 1km before we know you are going to the east or north or south, and we will tell you that my friend, Mumbwa is in the west of Lusaka! Why do you want to go all the way to Chipata only to realise you have gone the wrong direction when you can correct the error early on?

  29. In as much as we need time to clean up the mess, we must see directions. This tendancy of always wanting to shift the goal post on MMD is itself showing performnace failure. If we see direction in the governance of our country even when these campaign promises are not being fulfilled right now, we promise to remain silent. Our only worry is the lack of vision and direction in the current regime. We cried with the hipic completion in the Mwanawasa regime but atleast we could see a light at the end of the tunnel.   42. When poverty enters the bloodstream it become normal. Yes Zambians were cheated but because they are used to poverty and bluntered lies, they will always demonise HH. You have spoken the truth and some of us saw these lies even before campaigns started and quickly made up our minds never to support PF. However alot of voters were those born after Kaunda and therefore never understood the so called great leader. This country is going nowhere even if we gave PF 50 years. They have no clue of how to bring development and all their thoughts are warped. As for me and my family, PF is not the answer. We will look eslewhere for solutions.   64. It is extremely laughable for people to always refer to how MMD governed whenever people ask the PF to deliver on its promises. For how long are we going to be fed with this story? Does it mean the PF has no agenda at all? In any case, MMD had a very clear agenda except that they stoped listening to the cries of the people. Today I have never heard any pronouncement on the developmental agenda for this country. Everybody just talks the way they like regardless of the resultant effects. Ministers and their president all behave like headless chickens with no clear direction. Do not waste time blaming the past; show us what you are going to do for Zambia.
