Hakainde Hichilema fears for his safety at George Kunda’s funeral service today

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema claims PF cadres plan to harass him today’s church service for late former republican vice president, George Kunda, the same way they did at the funeral of Princess Nakatindi Wina.

Mr. Hichilema has since accused republican president Michael Sata of instructing PF cadres to beat up opposition political party leaders at state functions.

In an interview with QFM, Mr. Hichilema says it is unfortunate that the PF is using state functions to harass the opposition.

He says it is therefore better for the opposition to stay away from the Africa freedom day celebrations, instead of being subjected harassment for no reason.

Mr. Hichilema says whoever has concerns over the decision by the opposition to shun the celebrations should first express concern at the root cause, which he says is the harassment by cadres of the ruling Patriotic Front.

    • MMD was very violent, and they did harass the post newspapers and opposition leaders who tried to tend Chiluba’s funeral, yet HH supports the same party, so he should stop being a hypocrite. His hatred for Sata and PF will never make him any greater. He is just a frustrated political underdog who thinks he can make himself a political martyr. You can fool Tongas but you can’t fool the rest of the nation.

  18. I think harassment of any citizen must be prosecuted by the state more so if it is a leader of one of the largest opposition party President. In my view this requires the head of state to come out and condemn the act and even send state security to protect an important man like HH. Hope H.E will reflect and remember that at one time he was tear gassed at the ACC offices not so long ago and he spoke against the harassment of the opposition by the state.

The funeral is for the late GK and this is primarily a family and friends’ occasion and in honour of his memory, HH should keep it that way. There are alot of ways in which HH can pay his respect; visit the funeral house and mourn there privately or if you desperately wish to attend the burial, then privately speak to the police to express your fears and request help. No drama, or ‘attention seeking’ public statements required over this very solemn time for the family and friends of the late GK.

All these are opposition leaders who even provide constructive criticism to Government and no one, not even so called cadres confront them, they are objective and credible.
