Nurses allegdly harassing Patients in Mfumbwe

Share

People seeking medical services at Mfumbwe District hospital in North Western Province are being harassed by nurses and other staff at the health institution.

Chief ChizelaA complained that patients are mistreated by nurses and other health officials.

The traditional leader also says the three doctors at the hospital spend most of their time in town instead of attending to patients.

Chief Chizela said this when Deputy Minister of Community Development in charge of Mother and Child Health Jean Kapata called on him at his palace.

And Lastone Matavu, a resident, has told ZNBC news that nurses turn away patients who come after the Out Patient Department is closed after 16 hours.

Ms Kapata has since warned of stern action against health personnel mistreating patients.

And Mufumbwe District medical Officer Dr Chimba-Bantu Kaoma acknowledged receiving such complaints.

  1. Typical of Zambian medical personnel.  They either certify you dead while you are still alive or they turn you away because they don’t know what to do with sick people.  They are now thriving under this kaponya govt who believe in “fikaisova”!

  2. If these medical personnel are not ready to work, please let them leave room for other poeple who are willing to work. PF Govt has no time to waist, we are in a hurry to deliver the best to the copmmunity. We need poeple who have work at heart, this kind of work cature is long gone. Please do the level best for the poeple, the Govt is paying you.

  3. No prejudice, get facts before you make stupid comments, health workers work very hard in Zambia under difficult conditions.

  4. Yes some nurses are pathetic with the way the handle patients their frustration is put on patients but they are forgetting God put them there for a purpose and surely they will be accountable to him even at solwezi maternity section some nurses are too hush with the patients please just remember why you are on earth and why you have that job

  5. We need to get our facts right, why should patients want to be seen after hours?? the medical personnel will attend to emergencies only if the stipulated time to close the clinic is 4pm why should they stay waiting for the late comer to surface, Lets be realistic and factual before you stat calling people names. the nurses and doctors work in very difficult circumstances and you should be grateful you have the services and Utilise them sensibly, Stop the fault finding.

    • What do yiu mean people should be grateful thet have the service? It;s their job to provide good service and they are being paid with tax payer’s money.Remember that.

  6. Nursing in Zambia is a very stressful profession. It is not for the faint hearted. One expect such things. How do you expect one nurse to attend to 500 patients at a time without becoming stressed ?

  7. Charity begins @ home others their behaviou its from home washout them give them retirement bcz they dont wont to work

  8. Health wrkers hav been treated as first class by givin them good pay rise. Such reports ar sad to read! We expect the health wrkers to perform. Moreover that profession is more of a calling than mane making n leisure!

  9. The District Officer acknowledged that he has received complaints to that effect. And what action has he taken? The medical service in that district is rotten to the core. The responsible minister must crack the whip.

  10. Medical personnel do not live in a vacuum. Their general behavior mirrors that of the community they live and work in. They are not angels! Generally speaking, people these days are less caring, more rude, more easily provoked, more stressed than years back. One finds this kind of behavior among teachers, police officers, and so on and so on. Obviously, I do not condone the nurses” behavior. Rather society must find ways of dealing with this rather negative human behavior. Singling one section of society and condemning them will not yield the desired results!!

  11. Should a man under stress abuse his wife? Should a mother under stress abuse her children? Should a boss under stress abuse his/her staff? Should a nurse under stress abuse her/his patients? This has been going on for a long time and it needs to be addressed ASAP

  12. If this is true,it is important that these workers be transfered becoz us kaondes if we mean to react,it will be a sad story.Pliz leave our land if you are not ready to give your services to our pipo.

  13. Ba Jean Kapata before comenting investigate and find the truth. It happend sometime back there was a story in the news paper that the nurses at Chawama clinic Inpatient Department in Lusaka harrased a father who visited his ill child.Dr.Rose Kumwenda who was the director of Lusaka Urban Clinics had to investigate the matter before approching the nurses, she found that the man who complained to the news reporters just made a story to dent the nurses later the director aproched the reportes and told them to write the truth, which they did and apologised for the damage they caused to the clinic
