Let planned demonstration over suspended judges go ahead- SACCORD

The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has appealed to government to allow the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) go ahead with its planned demonstration over the suspension of the three judges.

SACCORD information officer Obby Chibuluma says there is nothing wrong with the planned demonstration by the opposition, stating that it is one of the fundamental rights that citizens enjoy.

Mr. Chibuluma says political parties are at liberty to stage peaceful protests whenever they feel their interests are not being addressed.

He however stated that anyone planning to demonstrate should ensure that it is done peacefully so that other citizens’ rights are not violated in the process.

Speaking to QFM in an interview, Mr. Chibuluma says government would make a mistake if it decided to stop the opposition from proceeding with the demonstrations.

  1. Yes, let them demonstrate, but let the tribunal also go ahead, the panic by the Judges is also worrying, especially with the visit to the prison to most likely ‘cox’ Muhan, we want to know the truth. Afterall, chikopa appears to be professional, he will call a spade, spade and not a big sppon.

The Research Question is: Are Judges bribed to influence judgements?
The methodology is the Tribunal. After the findings, the Data analysis will be conducted by all Zambians and Conclusion reached. Then we will have recommendations, which may include getting rid of the Chief Justice. As for now, lets see what Chikopa has.

  2. Why are they planning to demonstrate; on what? Defending corrupt Judges come on ordinary Zambians need to start feel respected and equal justice for all. Why cant those Judges go on trial like any other ordinary citizens and UPND just want to gain political mileage on this one!!!!!!!

  3. The massege is We want the 14bn saga addressed before judges are victimised. They may not receive a fair trial. Who and why was 14bn written off?? Was it politically motivated.

    YES LET THEM DEMOSTRATE!!!!!!!!

    • What you are calling for is the typical chicken & egg, what comes first scenario! In my opinion, the 14 Billion issue will not be resolved if the judges do not face the tribunal. The tribunal gives the judges the opportunity to spill the beans!

  4. What interest does the UPND have in the suspension of the three judges? It seems UPND’s bitterness after loosing the elections is making them lose direction.UPND is suporting corruption by demonstrating against the suspension of judges.UPND’s planned demo smells rats, pigs and dogs.Let them parade in the streets and expose their stupidity. If they think they will be popular by so doing they will prove themselves wrong

  5. Ever since Habasonda left SACCORD there seems to a tendency just to be heard or read about by the new leadership. Commenting on every nonsensical issue. Is there anything to demonstrate about in the judiciary debacle?

  6. IG MME LIBONGANI, ALLOW THEM TO DEMONSTRATE SO THAT WE CAN SEE THEIR IGNORANCE & SUPPORT FOR CORRUPTION. THERE IS NO NEED FOR HH & HIS LUMPENS TO CONFUSE THE CASE WHICH IS SEPARATE & THE TRIBUNAL! HH & ALL HIS GOONS KNOW THAT DBZ STILL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO THE RULING! DBZ ALREADY WON THE CASE & MUTEMBO, JNC & THE POST HAVE APPEALED. THIS MATTER IS NOT RELATED TO THE CONDUCT OF THE JUDGES TO APPEAR BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL CHAIRED BY JUDGE CHIKOPA! MOST PEOPLE WON’T BE BOTHERED WITH UPND, BECAUSE UBUPUBA NABUCHILAMO!

  7. UPND should own up to be accountable for whatever destruction in whatever form this may result in. People should not abuse the freedom this government is offering them, wina azalila.

  8. THE OPPOSITION ARE VERY FRAUSTRATED TO BE IN POWER THAT THEY ARE EVEN READY TO DESTROY ZAMBIA BY CALLING FOR AN UNREST IN THE COUNTRY. THIS CHAPS BEHIND THIS DEMONSTRATION SHOULD BE DEALT LIKE HOW PRESIDENT AL BASHIR IS DOING IN SYRIYA. YOU HAVE TO DEAL TOUGH WITH THESE REBELS AS GADDAFFI DID.

  9. BY THE WAY WHY IS HH & THE GOONS SO INTERESTED ONLY IN THE K14 BILLION RECOVERY? WHAT ABOUT THE DEATH OF ITOWALA & THE MAFIA LAWYERS INVOLVED AND HOW ABOUT THE ACQUITTAL OF FTJ? WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS OCCUPIED BY THE GENTLEMEN IN WHITE WIGS!
ATASE FI UPND, OPEN YOUR EYES, SOME OF US NEED MORE ANSWERS THAN THE K14 BILLION! GO AND COLLECT FROM MUTEMBO, JNC & THE POST YOURSELVES IF YOU ARE SO BOTHERED!

    • Some members of the Asian community in Zambia say Mohan didn’t fire the pistol whose fatal bullet killed Itowala. The mafya that shot Itowala is still free!

  10. Where is the world have you heard about credible opposition political parties demonstrating in a democracy?

Are not the opposition political parties part of the wider governing entity? It is the pressure groups like NGO who should be mobilising people to pressurise Government or companies over what the public perceive as injustice, not opposition political parties.

When opposition political parties demonstrate, companies and Government, depending on who they are demonstrating against, will only respond in a dismissive way by saying that it is all politics.

  11. Let me add by stating that if this leads to the breach of the peace, UPND will be in big trouble, not only from PF, but from the Zambian populace, and this could lead to the demise of the political party which was once a formidable opposition political party in Zambia, and for which the Late Anderson K Mazoka laboured for.

  12. PF approach to national issues is far from being different compared to the Chiluba and RB led MMD, they feel and think everything they do is right and no one for that matter should challenge them. PF supporter take not that there is no issue of coming up with a tribunal by HE MCS, but it is the basis on which it was constituted? How many people have complained about the justice system in this country? Countless. Why complaints by Nchito and Mmembe should be so special, to an extent of forgoing any procedures. Mmembe knows the procedure but because he has no respect for the Chief Justice Office (mark it is the office and no Hon Sakala) he went straight to State House. This is a sign that Mmembe is in control of the Executive.

    • The Supreme Court has not delivered judgment in my case since June 2005. All documents were lost. I didn’t have a lawyer. The matter was re-head, which meant starting the process all over again. I wrote to George Kunda who responded that he had a conflict of interests. To date there has been no judgment. Is this the judiciary we need? Powerful lawyers get judgments overnight. Those that have not gone through the agony of the court process may see things differently. Why should the judiciary resist investigations?

  13. Why UPND only?Where are the other opposition parties. As Miyanda,Milupi and the rest realised that HH was using them to achieve his dirty goals. If I were Sata,I would allow the demonstrations. If HH wont pay some people, then no one will attend. When he is through with his demo,we will organise ours in support of the tribunal. We shall see who is representing people btn Sata and HH.

  14. We are eagerly waiting for demonstrators! We were getting worried as to where we are going to get specimens for student practicals at Lilayi college, Kanfinsa School of Public Order mintenance (SPOM) and indeed Bapta City College which is in Sondela! This is besides our already standby water canons tear smoke canisters long and short batons of course not forgetting LIVE BULLETS!

  15. People have time to waste on foolish demonstrations motivated by bitterness. Yes, let them have their walk and day in the sun. No harm. It may help them forget the real more immediate frustrations in their miserable brutal short lives. The suspension of the judges is a remote frustration whose impact may take years to realise. Already some idoi+ judge flatulence is delaying everything. Good luck. And carry some bottled water if you can afford one. You may find some jilijilis on your march route to liven your empty lives.

  16. Seems there are a lot *****s on this forum. Why condemn a peaceful demonstration? The issues are clear for all to see but the new thieves are ready to hoodwink others so that there is nonstop thieving in this so called new government. These fellows must be made to be accountable to Zambians without protection from some hoodlums in the PF. SACCORD has also lost its meaning nawadays, no direction. Opposition is talking about a compromised civil society and today Chibuluma says the oppoisition has gone to sleep! So who has gone to sleep between the two, in my opinion it is SACCORD itself.

  17. If I was one of the judges to be investigated by the tribunal, I would be totally against such demonstration!! Because the glory that will be bestowed upon the judges when they are found innocent will be enormous and it will immensely add to their integrity. I can assure you that if UPND will not bribe people to take part in these futile demonstration, there will only be a handful of people (probably just the top officials of UPND and their wives and children). The reason for this is simple – there is no virtue in preventing the tribunal. UPND leaders you are really blinded by hatred

  18. The Govt should let them demonstrate so that HH’s foolishness is exposed after the tribunal sits. CHIKOPA is too learned to agree to be drawn into some funny tribunal if it was one. Let them demonstrate afterall the Police Cadets at Lilayi have been lacking ‘Training Aids” for crowd dispersal drills !

  20. HH on the wrong side of history again, he just does not get it. Today he could have been VP and would have enjoyed the full support of every smart person from the Zambian Enterprise … but he misses it all the time. I really miss Andy when I think of UPND, I miss him so much tears roll out of my eyes. Anderson Mazoka (MYSRIP) but why did you have to leave us at a time we really needed a real mature politician?

    • Ba Mumba,
It is a common trick for Bemba’s to be pro Andy Mazoka now that he is dead. Bemba’s are the reason why Mazoka did not make to State House. That is a fact you can check with the Electoral Commission on how provinces voted in that election. It was Northern and Luapula Provinces that had the lowest numbers. So we are not fooled by your tactic of trying to show Support for Andy why dissing HH. The Bottom line of this whole saga is that Mmembe and Nchito and Sata have been corrupt in the way they have dealt with this whole issue of 14 bln and 3 judges. Common man!!

    • Iwe @The Bricklayer, it’s people like you that instigate genocide. You seem to have had issues all the time with bembas. Let me tell you something iwe kolwe, some of us grew up with tongas, lozis, tumbuka, chewas, kaonde, lamba etc as best friends including my first girlfriend who was a tonga and my neighbour. We grew up together without even thinking about the language differences. I agree with BR Mumba Sr, Andy Mazoka was a very wise and mature politician who did not espouse tribalism like “Ichilema” HH is doing. You need to realise that we have intermarried and are therefore interdependent on one another going all the way back to pre colonial era. Unlike you tribalists, fwe babemba we give respect to a leader regardless of where he/she hails from.

    • Ba Bricklayer: Please, please don’t sing those tribalist tunes with me, who were Andy’s vice-presidents? Both of them were Bemba/ish … in case you don’t know before Tentemashimba (NW). Andy was always my favorite even against Levy/Freddo for me because as a Harvard graduate Andy was well positioned to take our country to the next level, higher that were the duo left us. As you might be aware, I am the only UNIP chap left, even there I was a serious advocate for Kebby Musokotwane to take over from KK. When HH took over, from Andy I was his greatest supporter, go ask him whether he actually even gave me his personal email, which email address I believe you don’t even have as a fellow Tonga. You don’t know me well, I am really offended you called me a tribalist. You owe me an apology.

    • Ba Bricklayer: I can’t believe you just called me a tribalist, I am really offended, some of us grew up an era that disdained such, it always felt like a cancer we could not tolerate. In fact, one would not even call himself a Zambian with any tribal connotations following him. My business mentor was Reeves Mweene, a Tonga Bull, one time confidant and room mate was Chris Sitali, a Lozi, I once dated Munkombwe’s daughter, she had great thighs – I must add and despite growing up on the Copperbelt, my first professional job was in Livingstone. Two of my favorite pastors are Tongas, I am truly in shock and awe … I can go on and on. I am hurt, you really really owe me an apology! Coachez, what happened to my country? When people can’t compete in the market place they resort to tribalism.

  21. ITS NEW TO ZAMBIA BUT SOME PEOPLE’S REASIONING IS WORRYING AND THATS Y AFRICAN IS SO BACKWARD. ”there is nothing wrong with the planned demonstration by the opposition, stating that it is one of the fundamental rights that citizens enjoy”.

  22. Let people go ahead and demonstrate, it’s a fundamental democratic and human right whether the reasons are stupid or not, as long as they don’t engage in violence and obviously they will not unless provoked by pf cadres. PF stood for this freedom before the elections, didnt they? And Summer seems to have felt the heat, hence his crocodile tears type of reconciliatory tone calling for dialogue. Since when did PF believe in dialogue?

  23. Look guys there would be no tribunal if there was no K14B, that is the issue at stake not constitutional powers of the president and such rubbish. Just pay back the K14B or do a payment plan, and we can all save our President and our country unnecessary embarrassment. Then we can talk Judicial reforms with clear minds and in a dignified manner, not where presidential powers are applied to protect friends from paying public debt, do Zambian presidents swear to uphold the constitution or to uphold personal friends? Ba Chief Justice tell us, you are the one who conducts the swearing.

  24. HH is not biter for loosing any election. You poeple have such short memories. Was Sata biter when he lost the same elections many times before coming to power thanks to Kaponya’s? HH lives one of the most comfortable lives in Zambia and has nothing more to gain even from being president, but as a citizen he has his right to aspire to lead the country. If you ask me, he has more credentials for the position than his excellency, mr know it all. The downside to democracy is that anyone and I mean anyone can win an election, more so in zambia.

  25. If it werent for the kind of HH, I would support 50 plus in the constitution. And as u would have it, HH is the main champion of 50 plus. With the kind of opposition we have in Zambia, we r not yet mature to have such a clause in our constitution. Nothing personal to HH, but his character is deadly to our peaceful Zambia. His intentions r all selfish & he wont even pretend 4 the sake of civility as a “learned man”. Unfortunately his load of education has failed to groom him into real civilization & compassion 4 others. All this mobilizing of other opposition is not about the good of Zambia but about his selfish gains & he will stop at nothing to do the same to lobby for a 50 plus so that he can instal himself as president…just like he did after Anderson… He is a SAD man

  26. the same would apply for the running mate. Imagine the amount of time that would be spent on trying to iron out difference between the head of state and his running mate just because the running mate feels like the president cant touch him. the drama will cost the country the much needed progress economically because of the fights… These two issues MAYBE good in other parts of the world but not just for Zambia YET….until we have the kind of opposition that can trully represent the people’s issues and deal better with their bruised egos….
