UNZA don calls for investment in Zambia’s manufacturing industry

file:“The RUINS“ UNZA - University of Zambia student residence

A professor of Economics at the University of Zambia Vakentesh Seshamani has observed that the manufacturing industry in the country needs huge investment.

Professor Seshamani told Qfm in an exclusive interview that the industry plays a critical role in national development and further on government to revitalize the industry.

He explained that the industry has great potential to contribute meaningfully to the Zambia’s economy by creating more job opportunities for the majority of the people.

Professor Seshamani pointed out that high interest rates and an unfavorable business environment have adverse effects on the economy.

He therefore urged government and other stakeholders to put in place measures that would maximize local and foreign investment in the country’s manufacturing industry.

  1. What is the connection between the statement the professor is making and the photograph of the ruins dormitory?

  2. They are waiting to sign more treaties and ask the IMF to assist with measures…

  3. What measures should the stakeholders put in place?

    provide workable answers chi prfoessor

  4. He explained that the industry has great potential to contribute meaningfully to the Zambia’s economy………….Ichisungu ichi. Anyways…nika typo error….

  5. Can someone paint the buildings at UNZA. We understand they are ruins but even ruins can be remodeled. The buildings give a negative ‘connotation’ of the UNZA products. Maybe that is why the country has not developed economically and socially despite having produced tens of thousands of graduates. Someone do something at Zambia`s Ivy league School.

  6. #7, THE BUILDING DOES NOT NEED PAINTING- IT WASN’T MEANT TO BE PAINTED. IT NEEDS JET-WASHING. WHICH IS EVEN CHEAPER AS WE HAVE WATER ALREADY.

  7. For the first time we are getting words of wisdom from UNZA and I bet the Professor is not Zambian. Small wonder UNZA is not in the 100 best Unviversities in Africa, beaten by Somalia and Zim.

  8. Who wants to invest in a country with so many black outs? Every time there’s power failure you lose money because there’s no production. Look at the roads and the road network. Please before you talk about investors, be investor-ready.This is just two of the many reasons a peaceful country like Zambia has failed to make it’s economy take off.
