Kaushi Warns Zambia Against Complacency

Share

Ex-KK 11 Star Simon Kaushi Kaodi has warned Chipolopolo against complacency as Zambia campaigns for a place at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Zambia status as African champions suffered an embarrasing moment when Sudan beat them 2-0 in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier.

Kaodi said there is need for national team players to be more determined and committed if Zambia is to qualify to the World Cup.

“We can go to the world cup but we need more determination, commitment and responsibility,” he said.

“We should not grow big headed after winning the Africa cup, winning the Africa Cup is not winning the World Cup. We need to improve our game,” Kaodi, a silver medalist at the 1974 Africa Cup added.

He stated that Zambia is in a fair group which has Ghana and Lesotho as well.

“Our group is fair, we should not underate any team. Even if we beat them at the Africa Cup when we meet again it will be a new game,” Kaodi noted.

The vanquished national team returned from Sudan on Sunday.

  1. Seriously so do you ever think Zambia can defeat this new Ghana team ? Did anyone watch Ghana’s match against lesotho ? we should have won the game against sudan bcos i see no chance for us against this present Ghana team . I watched the match and i can say the new Ghana team plays like barcelona , no wonder they scored 7 goals against lesotho . And please lets beware of the Atsu guy in the Ghana team . This guy plays like Messi , he was not part of the Afcon team .May God help us.

  2. Yes Ephraim I watched Ghana against Lesotho,  in many ways they still play like the current Zambia team, but a little more aggressive, when they attack. Their defence was not tested though, but what do u expect against lesotho. Its true they are so motivated but that team still is not tested, so lets see how they react when they are pressurised in zambia. I think Zambia will still be safe in Ndola. Remember Lesotho, a small team playing away in BIG Ghana, Zambia will be at home and after the loss and an unconvincing with at Afcon, have a point to prove. I worked in zambia for 5 yrs and since then v followed zambian soccer

  3. Sudan were itching to silence us and were very ready for that encounter. We were busy scratching our groins in South Africa when we should have been acclimatising to the Sudanese temperatures. Team should have been there at least a week in advance.

As for Ghana, they are also bitter about losing AFCON and will come with fire. We must respond with even more fire and psychologic / mental fortitude. Sudan loss did not help, but lessons can still be learnt about evil of complacency.

The victory party is over guys. Time to play some real soccer and consolidate our reputation. We lose to Ghana, we will be the laughing stock of Africa. The game is in the mind before it reaches the legs and feet.

  4. Ala i just wasted my time reading this article from nonentities, when i saw the headline i thought it was saying KALUSHA WANRN ZAMBIANS AGAINST COMPLACENCY but it Kaushi not kalusha,,, OMG, I like kalusha’s articles and he is my FAZ President i was expecting him to say something on the sudan game thats why i mistook this unnonymous “Kaushi for Kalusha” too bad time lost cannever be gained

    • @Mashindu, I take it you were probably not born for you not to know who Simon “Kaushi” Kaodi is. Please, give respect to the pioneers for Zambian football. Kaushi Kaodi was playing football when kalusha was just beginning primary school. Respect the old man iwe mwaiche.

  5. Iwe Mashindu you don’t know Kaodi Kaushi? Mufulira Blackpool striker later Mighty striker. National team top man who banged in goals from anywhere in the 18? Bola taYaambile na Great Kalu we mwana we!

  6. @Higher Taller. That is just what I have been wondering; Kaodi was reported dead in the 80s. However, if he is alive, then it is a twist. We have never forgotten the goal he scored from a corner kick in the 1974 Africa Cup of Nations to equalise in the final against Zaire, thus; forcing a replay. They were great as twin wingers with Kaodi on the left and ‘Chairman’ Moses Simwala on the right.

  7. Bonzo @ 8, I thought that goal was scored by Brighton Sinyangwe?; please someone correct me.
For sure Zambian footie started way before Kalu and there were some solid players before him. Unfortunately,at the time, the demand to play in Europe was not as aggressive as it is today.
As for the subject at hand, it is a good thing to remind our players of what is required and expected of them if we are to make any progress in our quest to go to the world cup in 2014. I hope SKK is still alive; his name cannot be missed if you are to list the old Zambian greats!

  8. 3 Muskteers at 9, you are right, it was Brighton Sinyangwe who scored the equaliser in injury time after Zambia had just conceded what Zaire thought was the winner late in the game. If you want confirmation let us check with Mr Denis Liwewe, he was there and I was listening to the commentary on the radio (which is showing my age!) on the day. Maybe bwana Kaushi scored the first equaliser because the game ended 2-2. That was a solid team. I still want to know why in the replay someone else was taking the goal kicks instead of the goalkeeper Emmanuel Mwape. Was he injured? One of the goal kicks led to Zambia conceding a goal and losing the replay. Yes, those guys played well even though they did not win major tournaments
