United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema said has said that calls by his opponents to hold a convention for his party were irrelevant. The UPND leader said this in Livingstone yesterday during a Press briefing held at Museum Hall.
Mr Hichilema said that UPND had a General Assembly in July of 2010 where he was given a five year mandate and he was surprised at why people were insinuating that he was afraid of a convention.
Mr Hichilema said his party was organized and consistent with how it dealt with issues and stated that a General Assembly for the party would be held once proper arrangements were made.
He also called for unity and order for elections to be conducted in a peaceful and decent manner.
Mr Hichilema further said his party with support from the opposition MMD were unstoppable and as such confident of being victorious in the forth-coming by elections set for July 5, 2012 in Livingstone.
He however, condemned President Michael Sata’s leadership style claiming that he could perform better if elected into office.
And Mr Hichilema has said that his party supports the clause in the draft constitution which states that the Vice President should be a running mate to the President in an election.
Mr Hichilema said having a Vice President as a running to the President was a cost saving measure in the event that a President died as there would be no need to conduct fresh elections.
The UPND leader said this in Livingstone yesterday during a Press briefing held at Museum Hall.
Mr Hichilema said even Malawi had adopted the running mate clause as it appreciated its value in preventing unplanned for elections.
He said it was important for Zambia to have a President who would not be afraid of his Vice but instead work with his Vice to run the country as a team in bringing development to the people.

On June 4 HH graduated from the under five club. Remember, in politics 1 year = 10 normal years. He is slowly incorporating everything that politicians who are above 5 do – insulting, undemocratic, womanizing etc….. I’m not sure though if he has any skills to sweet talk a woman.
But why do you fear a convetion HH, why. Go for a convetion so that people in your party have an opportunity to practice true democracy. Or are telling us that only a TONGA as you caders put it can lead UPND?

It is very interesting to note that most upnd supporters behave like ostriches and all of them seems to have Meningococcal Leukodystrophy disease! As a proffesional Demographer, Business Administrator and Lawyer, i can say that it defies the entire spectrum of logic for these supporters of upnd to have a notion that Hichilema can win a national election!

Hikaindes refusal to call for convention of his Party shows his cowardice and afraid of being challenged by his oponents perhaps they reason better than him. Convention builds a true democratic Party where everyone makes own choice of a lead capable of leading the Party to winning elections.
When you look at Hikainde one would first of all laugh before commenting on his statements as he has not shown any sign of being a good leader. Its not for sake of just oppossing but start wih your alternative. Hikainde must talk what he thinks he would do different from PF to give people hope if it were to be and not just repeating same statements but in opposite.

MMD is now a discredited party, FDD & Heritage Party have gone down the drain(it’s not easy to run an opposition pary, u know!), Chipimo is in Sata’s pockets so the only oppostion party that is a threat to PF is UPND. UPND is more democratic than the party in power. As one of the main parties, please develop clear structures and have a shadow cabinet so that when the time comes for you to rule, it will not be fire fighting but simply moving in with your cabinet! Please have a clear manifesto and policy directions. Do not worry that your policies have been stolen before, know that others cannot implement your policies as well as you the originators. The time is coming when getting to power will be based on clear principles not lies!

Sata did not start from nowhere! PF is a breakaway MMD chunk. When Sata left MMD to form PF he was the MMD secretary general and he later ganged up with FTJ to increase the ranks of PF. In short PF is a party composed of mainly Chiluba and Sata supporters of the former MMD and it is no wonder that most of it’s support base is from the North of Zambia. Sata ganged up with a bitter Mmembe in 2011 to boost his numbers so is it a supprise then the PF numbers have been increasing over the years? PF is now in power and if they fail to deliver they should not rely on tribal votes anymore. People don’t eat tribes so deliver or you will be out come 2016. It does not help to continue living in the past. The Post can no longer save them because people feel cheated.
