President lashes out at Nevers Mumba for neglecting Chinsali when he was VEEP

Share

PRESIDENT Michael Sata has lashed out at MMD president Nevers Mumba for allegedly failing the people of Chinsali where he hails from.

President Sata said Dr Mumba failed to bring development to his native boma despite the time he spent in Government as vice-president under then leader Levy Mwanawasa.

The President was speaking at Chinsali airstrip when he made a stopover en-route to Chama to drum up support for Patriotic Front (PF) candidate, January Zimba in the July 5, 2012 by-election.

MMD is fielding Yotam Mtayachalo while UNIP has settled for Herbert Zimba.

“Mwebena Chinsali mwachula pafula kwamba fye muli chachacha, muli UNIP nobu ubuteko bwafuminepo (You people of Chinsali have suffered for far too long starting from Chachacha times, the UNIP era and during the previous regime),” the President told the residents who met him at the airstrip.

Mr Sata said the residents of Chinsali did not get any help even when Dr Mumba was in Government.
Mr Sata promised to tar the runway at Chinsali airstrip as well as the roads linking Chinsali to Chama and from Chama to Isoka.

The President later paid a courtesy call on chiefs Chibale and Mulilo both of whom he promised that he would deliver development in their chiefdoms.

Chief Chibale bemoaned the poor road network in his chiefdom saying it had led to the maize crop from the 2011/2012 season to go to waste because his subjects could not transport the commodity to storage facilities.

The chief, who also thanked Mr Sata for being the first President to visit his palace, said his subjects were in dire need of an ambulance at the clinic near his palace and better water and sanitation facilities in the area.

The President directed Muchinga Province Minister, Malozo Sichone to take note of the problems raised by the two chiefs and ensure their plight was urgently attended.

Addressing a rally at Chibale Basic School, the President introduced the PF candidate in the by-election and advised him to listen to the electorate because they had the power of sending him to Parliament or not.

“You see these women and children, they are widows and orphans, so you now become their father. They are not sending you to Parliament so -that you become rich and forget them,” he warned.

The President had a go at MMD candidate Mr Mtayachalo whom he said left Chama to “enrich himself” in the city and now wanted to hoodwink them and get their vote.

Mr Sata warned the electorate in Chama and the country at large against being cheated by Dr Mumba whom he referred to as the son of Sekwila.

He advised Mr Zimba to routinely visit the electorate so that he is kept abreast of the challenges they were facing.

“Get wisdom from the electorate and these chiefs. They live with the people, they are the ones who can tell you what the people want,” he told the PF candidate.

Justice Deputy Minister, Alfrida Akasembe told the rally that Chama District had two constituencies and that it was time both seats got in the hands of the PF so that they could receive development at the same time.

She said voting for an opposition MP would always leave them lagging behind in terms of development.

President Sata was welcomed by Mr Sichone, Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe, Permanent Secretaries for Muchinga and Northern Province, Charles Sibanje and Emmanuel Mwamba, respectively.

  1. This is shallow coming from the president. You have just given more ammunition to the people that have all along been saying that you are a tribalist on a Bembalisation crusade of the government.

Why should Chinsali only develop when their own is vice president?  This statement is low life and irresponsible ..coming from a head of state because it implies that your region should only develop when you hold high office and it is okay for Shangombo to stay undeveloped because they have never produced a vice president.

This is totally disgusting and I hope our president will not dignify this lunatic statement  coming from a head of state with a response.

    Disgusting and shameful

    • Well said #1, the president’s speech confirms what he has so far done as president. Only bemba regions will prosper under this man.

    • Yes our leaders need to think of the entire nation not an area where they hail from

    • I agree with you #1, that is manipulation by the president ,it’s the list he could do. Development has to happen countrywide irregardless who in power

    • I agree with you as a head of state even if you “think some thing” doesnt mean you should say them its part of your responsibility to show a balanced opinion on matters regarding any issue… in this case development.

  2. Iwe # 1 are you telling me that your relatives are eating the same food you are eating or driving the same car you are driving the one who is disgusting and shameful is you for thinking with your tribe instead of your brains……

    • Isn’t national development supposed to be planned so that every part of Zambia gets a fair share of teh cake. If we leave it to vice presidents and presidents, development would be partisan.

  3. It’s nice to see ## 1 and 2 back. You are the same old folks who kept telling us that  Sata will never be president… Sata this and that …Well, the mmd is gone  now and won’t be coming back soonest, and upnd not a millions centuries!!

And your Tonga phrase ‘ukwa’ CAN NEVER RESONATE WITH THE ENTIRE ZAMBIA. so tell your ‘numbered’ senseless bloggers on the watch dog and tufwenko… That the phrase ukwa can never be life in a Zambian political dispensation!!

  4. Just imagine if it was Milupi or HH playing the tribal card? It seems the button of tribalism is only activated when a southerner, westerner or northwestern play the Sata game. People are watching and come 2016 elections will based on nauseating tribal lines. Really feel sorry for Dr. Mumba, a bemba who may not receive votes from non bembas because of the tribal lessons lectured by don Sata, he needs to fight against any tribal superiority regardless of who is marketing it. President Sata, it is not late to embrace all the zambians, u need a small trick to do it. PF’s international coverage is marching towards equaling zimbabwe’s siamese Zanu-PF but for us all, Robert Amsterdam may behind this bad coverage, he must be a genius in that area. Bootlicker! Am with u on this one.

  5. Number ### 5. That only matters if you are kin to WESTERN rhetoric and their one sided African policy (neo colonialism)… We don’t need their conditionality on what Africa ought to be or do (IMF, World Bank, EU…). We have turned EAST (China) where the sun rises without conditions. Arguing from at international relations political realist perspective.

  6. Is this a Head of State talking with the whole Country at heart? Is our President saying Dr. Mumba should have abused veep’s office by disproportionately channelling tax payer’s money to his place of origin to the exclusion of the rest of Zambia? What is this?  Is this uniting a nation, or is it sowing seeds of civil conflict in Zambia?. What is going on??

    • that is what they said about sata ; i think people need to move away from such satatements as You can never become president..it is just so so yesterday, anyway with a capacity to convince the electorate will rule zambia, tht how easy it has become..

    • Never say Never, we have seen it with Sata lots of people said he will never become President of Zambia and I think they are scratching their heads now. So anything can happen.

  7. “mwachula pafula”. This phrase sounds familiar. Or something similar. Yeah I got it. “Mwachushya pafula. When we come into power we’ll drop all charges levelled against him”.

Coming to the issue at hand help me understand one thing; Honestly who should have taken development to Chinsali between MCS (If he is not a tribalist) who has been in Govt for decades and Nevers who was veep for just about a year?

  8. What is tribal about what Sata has said, and was not this the language of the former ruling MMD Party, to the parts of the country they regarded opposition political part strongholds?

Honestly, the only thing that is different now is that it is the PF leading government, and not the MMD, or is it not?

We must quit this tribal oblique.

    • I’m cracking up here :  )

@Complexity – That second sentence is killing me and then Gundix takes it home with the questioning comic inflection of Zed humour. Tears roll down my cheeks as I imagine you slumped drunkenly over the keyboard typing that sentence. You’re probably teetotal so blame my over active imagination! Shame on me :)

  9. Nevers is no match to Sata’s political and developmental conceptualism that will pragmatically move the country forward. I have no doubt Sata will do more for the country in 5years than what MMD did in 20years
Political maturity, insight, knowledge and perception, Nevers is far better than Hakainde and their alliance works better for PF because it ultimately lowers the standing for Nevers.

  10. Oh ba kateka, why only chinsali? this is more that i can take in, Zambians be careful next time you go to the polls. this man is old and finished with no capacity to rule zambia, make him a headman in chinsali.

  11. My President, you were once Minister Without Portfolio,What did you did with Mpika,Now you are Calling Chisali to Develop as you are the President.
What about North-Western Province which is the Province contributing about 60% to the GDP but you are quite. You only mention Muchinga. Can we Say that this goverment will only develope Bemba land.People of North -Westren and Chiefs watch this message and have the way forwand for the province.

No wonder people want a federal state so that provices manage thier own resources.
I am frustarted at the rate one Zambia one nation is dying.

  12. I want to express my outmost disappointment in the way our president is rulling this nation.Mr Sata preached development and more jobs more money in your pocket government reduction in expenditure. How many times has he been in Zambia since been elected to the position of president. How many trips has he made just in the month of June.Youths where rioting in Lusaka over jobs in Mongu it was the issue of tribalism which prevailed in recruitment on the once neglected carreer of a soildier. How many hospitals has the PF done in the last 9months in govt. How many schools for them to start trying to find fought in Nevers.I thought Mr Sata once said you cant develop an area if you are a vice president because its the PF that call a vice president a chola boy.

  13. Never was an appointed MP and veep for Zambia, not Chinsali. This, coming from a head of state only shows the depth we as a nation are deep in bankum. We should be a nation that derives our strength in our diversity, not shallow artificial divisions like where one hails from. With this kind of mentality, no wonder the Lozis are the least developed and have a good reason to quit Zambia.

  14. Nevers is no match to Sata’s political and developmental conceptualism that will pragmatically move the country forward. I have no doubt Sata will do more for the country in 5years than what MMD did in 20years
Political maturity, insight, knowledge and perception, Nevers is far better than Hakainde and their alliance works better for PF because it ultimately lowers the standing for Nevers

  15. Since when have we had a Vice President for Chinsali? I thought Mumba was a Vice president for Zambia and not Chinsali. Anyway it’s coming from PF (PaFwaka) president so no wonder! I end here!

  16. CNPs only achievement so far is ‘winning the election in 2011’, nothing more.

CNP neglecting Chinsali now and Nevers when he was vice president, whats the difference here?

  17. This is definitely wako-ni-wako talk – trashy tribal talk! Development should be implemented in all the Zambian districts/constituencies/bomas regardless of who is president or vice president! This is careless and cheap talk Mr President.

  18. Fellow zambias more especially you the educated please try to analyse issues zambia will will never develop if we only aim to praise or bring someone down mind you mostly these politicians read your comments please lets improve our blocking.mostly it shows our thinking to be below pa

  19. Since Sata formed his PF,Chinsali has always had a PF MP.It follows therefore that the MP stands to answer the question of development and not Mumba.Remember that PF’s views about a VEEP is that he is a CHOLA Boy and therefore has no powers of his own.So how is Mumba Being blamed?
Finally, what development has PF given to the other Chama Constituency which they hold.Voters in Chama should out rightly reject PF.

  20. For sure how do neglect where you come from??? when you are in UK you are asked to go back and help develop Zambia not Angola…same goes to Mumbo Jumbo, he comes from chinsali and he should have done wonders when he was Veep! Mr. President you are indeed factual!! PF will still have my vote come 2016!

  21. This man is wasting so much time talking about the mistake of the previous governmenth and concentrate on fulfilling their campaign promises. this is the worst government ever

  22. It is sata who failed them.he has being in all the gvmnets.if he was wise enough he shud have also took the blame himself .but we all know it is politics without integrity .

  23. Good point president. Veep to develop his home ( town / boma / village ) Guy Scott if you do not send money to England, you are a headless chicken. Sata has authorised to develop where you came from if you are a Veep. Dont Kubeba.

  24. Se kwasu tikuti akolwe osekana vinkhang’a. Sata is laughing at Mumba and yet him has been in UNIP and MMD no development in Mpika. My president talks like a prostitute seducing a man haaa he is good at that I he was a woman, he stupid woman minded.

  25. Why the focus on Chinsali only and not the whole country? Does this mean that every administration will have to only develop areas they come from? I am confused mwe!!!

  26. People why cry foul southerners rejected Sata. Where do you want him to appoint a tonga? former first Lady told you that if you vote for Mwana Musankwa, Sata will be at plot one. Pride you will remain in opposition for life as you said Bantu Stand for life. It pains to see a person you hate becoming a President Tulemuteka guy for five whether you like it or not. After the Great Micheal Chilufya Sata, Jesus comes.

    • Please there is nothing tribal about that statement. Nothing at All. Its really simple, Mumba comes from there, he should have used his influence to bring attention to the developmental issues that affects his region. Thats regionalism, not tribalism, and that doesn’t happen just here in Zambia, but also in South Africa. Your thinking is what is skewed and only sees tribalism because that’s what you can see in everything. woe unto those who even listen to you. you are tribal yourselves.

  27. Its being very foolish to think Mr Sata should appoint Ministers from areas that did not vote for the PF.You got it wrong.Sorry!!.Vote wisely for PF in 2016 and you will have lots of Ministers from everywhere.

  28. We are still waiting for electricity in chongwe villages as promised in Nov11 by election!! Dont campaign with rotten teeth because lies will be seen by everybody!!!

  29. You would think the president would expend his energies on more productive things.
This is going to be a long 5 years.

  30. UPND are always arguing that they are not a tribal party, so who is their candidate in this by-election?

  31. stupid fools in zambia tribalism means coming from western or southern provinces. mr sata has always being a tribalitic man no debate on that, if u argue u are a fool open yo eyes and ears. look at the entertainment he is giving chipili and nawakwi?

  32. Even where a whole province does not vote for you in the elections, the fact you end up in a responsible govt. position means that province, like every other, should be on your develoment road map. What foolishness is this about selective develoment that depends on taking advantage of your high office?

  33. So sad to see some Bembas supporting Sata’s tribal madness. The damage his tribal bigotry is wreching on the fabric of Zambia is collosal. We are now running the rist of civil strife that will lead to the disintegration of this country. We all know the Northern parts of Zambia have zero resources, watch how fast your Satan will land you in purgatory when other provinces quit this Zambia of yours.

  34. I thot Sata was ‘a man of action’! And action has no time for blame games! The man should concentrate on delivering on the promises made last year during the run-up to the elections. So far, its mere promises, blames on the previous govt, and more talking! Gentlemen, its almost a year since u came into power. Do show leadership and direction lest u become very very irrelevant.

  35. Dr Mumba is giving HEMCS political hallucinations. Mr Sata has insomnia! Pursuing Dr Mumba wil cost him. Let him concentrate developing the country. We r waiting for the promises to b fulfilled

  36. No wonder only chikwanda is qualified to act as president when the the head of the hyeana pack is away. Ukwa thinks that if Scott were left to act he would take development to Fyfe in Scotland.

  37. Sata and his party are putting the Bembas in very unfortunate situation such that it will be very difficult to av a Bemba president in future. Most of the pipo in last year s election, especially us on the copperbelt, did not vote on tribal lines. It is lack of understanding for Sata and his party to think that most of the pipo on the copperbelt are Bembas. The copperbelt is a collection of so many tribes and statistics show that the Bembas form only less than a quarter of the population of the copperbelt province. Now that we know that the Bembas vote on tribal lines,we shall see if they will manage to win an election on there on.

  38. Justice Deputy Minister, Alfrida Akasembe told the rally that Chama District had two constituencies and that it was time both seats got in the hands of the PF so that they could receive development at the same time.

She said voting for an opposition MP would always leave them lagging behind in terms of development.
I thought these are the things they used to condemn when MMD used to campaign now they are saying unless an MP belongs to the ruling party that area will not see development.

  39. These arepoliticsbafikala dont comment on thins yu dont understand, do u sleep eat walk talk tribe ar the time then yu ar fulsm******mwe

  40. As long as Sata is president only Muchinga and Northern provinces (Bemba areas) will have a semblance of development. The rest of the country should forget about development in this five years of PF rule. How sad!!!

  41. Why is it that when Bembas post a comment they always say “chikala” or “bafikala”? What actually is “chikala” or “bafikala”?

  42. I wish to express thanks to this writer for rescuing me from this challenge. Just after looking through the the web and finding ways which are not helpful, I was thinking my life was gone. Living without the strategies to the issues you’ve sorted out by means of the short post is a crucial case, and the ones that would have adversely damaged my career if I had not encountered your blog. Your primary skills and kindness in handling a lot of stuff was useful. I’m not sure what I would have done if I had not come upon such a stuff like this. I’m able to now look forward to my future.
