FUEL shortages has hit Chipata district forcing hundreds of motorists stranded in the border town of Eastern Province. Yesterday motorists were found making long queues
to access the last stock of the commodity which eventually finished at 17:00hours

Fuel attendants at Engen Filling station who sought anonymity said the fuel run of stock at 10:00hours. The attendants said fuel such as diesel , petrol and kerosene run out in the morning while at Oasis Filing station also known as Caltex, the fuel attendants said they had only reserve the few litters of the commodity for those customers especially departments and other companies who were on coupons.

They said the fuel for other motorists who were not coupons run out at about 16:45 hours.

By press time, Oasis was only remaining with kerosene. Before, the stocks had run out at the filling stations , long queues forced motorists to partially blocked Umodzi Highway and Church road forcing police officers to intervene into the matter.

Some motorists who had completely run out of the fuel in their vehicles engines were seeing running with containers just to access the commodity as alert police officers kept vigil of the situation.

“We were being told that the Government has procured the new stocks to cushion off the shortages of fuel in the country but what is this, “said Paul Nkhata who hired some youths to push his vehicle.

Another motorist, a Mrs Agness Mtonga said it was unfortunate that the commodity had run out of stocks.

She said what was said in parliament was contrary to what was obtaining on the ground.

The enraged resident said what was being said in parliament should tally with realities.

  1. In the space of 3 months, we have had more that 3 episodes of fuel shortages…. This government is proving to be very useless. Is there anyone planing for the country?  What have we done to our country? is this the change we wanted?

  2. Surely this fuel shortage has to go on for months?? Someone is not doing their job and must be fired now now

  3.  That is what you voted  for.
    Its easy.
Just cross into Malawi and refuel from the donation made by ukwa.

  4. And we say we have a GREAT LEADER,my foot the man doesnt even know what pollution is thus why in Brazil he had the nerves to tell people that whiskey pollutes the enviroment. We are just a bunch of *****s who cant learn from other countries voting for learned and young leaders.

  5. It appears those responsible for ensuring that things are moving smoothly have all been put in reverse gear by Sata and Kabimba. They guys are working in fear such that they cant make bold decions are just waiting for instructions from the TOP. Is that new way of running govt /public affairs. this continued fuel shortage will have negative effects on the economy. Where are our energy experts, economists? We cant let this fuel (artificial) shortage to go on. People voted for PF to solve problems but now we are hearing something else. What a shame.

  6. Fuel rationing by the central system. Iran enhanced embargoes. Lack of dollars to pay our suppliers. Which one is it?

  7. Lusaka Times you are using a very old photo. That welcome to Chipata was removed about a year ago after it was knocked down by a motorist. It has since replaced but not on the same position

  8. I want to borrow the yellow petrol can Ukwa used in Lusaka during the fuel shortages in RB’s time so that I can go and get my fuel back from Mchinji.

  9.  PF IS BECOMING STUPID. AS A CIVIL SERVANT I EXPECTED A LOT FROM THEM BUT THEY HAVE EVEN TAKEN AWAY THE TRANSPORT WHICH USED FERRY US TO AND FROM HOME. THEY ARE PAYING THEMSELVES FUEL ALLOWANCES OF MORE THAN 3MILLION WHILE A POOR ME IS GETTING 180,000 AS TRANSPORT ALLOWANCES. OTHERS ARE STILL USING GOVERNMENT VEHICLES USING THE “COMING LATE AND KNOCKING OFF EARLY STRATEGY” LET THEM CONTINUE LOOSING, THESE FOOLS. US CIVIL SERVANTS ARE NOT HAPPY

  10. The fuel ran out of stock!! ..other motorists not coupons..! LT what is happening? Do you have an editor?
