Chief Government Spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni has advised people calling for the revocation of the deportation of Roman Catholic Priest Father Viater Banyangandora to make their submissions using proper channels.

Mr. Sakeni said no one has made any calls for government to revoke the order but that this has only been heard through the media.

He said government is reluctant to engage in discourse over this matter based on media reports and without clear submissions from aggrieved parties.

He has since advised any persons with grievances regarding this matter to use proper channels in airing their concerns.

Mr. Sakeni said government is always ready to consider such concerns if relevant authorities are informed.

And Government has castigated opposition UNPD leader Hakainde Hichilema for ferrying party cadres when he appeared before the police for question this morning.

Mr Sakeni said it is uncalled and indiscipline for the opposition leader to go with party cadres at the Police Station which also resulted in a clash with the police.

He said it was also unfair on the part of Mr. Hichema to have involved the cadres when appearing for questioning before the police which turned violent and caused injuries to journalists.

Mr. Sakeni, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, said this at a press briefing in Lusaka today.

He said Mr. Hichilema committed the offence alone and what was only expected of him was to go alone and answer charges.

“He was summoned to answer to some charges and what was expected was for him to go alone or in the company of his lawyers and answer to those charges. He should just own up and not act like he has done,” he said.

He said there is need for politicians to respect police officers and police stations adding that police stations and offices are small places to be swarmed by hundreds of cadres.

He has since advised politicians to leave the officers to conduct their business professionally stating that they always act civil and do not harass anyone.

Mr. Sakeni said Mr. Hichilema’s behaviour shows a lot about him and wondered where this kind of politicking will take the opposition leader.

  1. You don’t need a formal request from anyone. All you need to do is apologise for jumping the legal procedures and revoke the deportation.

You made a mistake. This is a democratic country with provisions to have someone tried in the courts of law before concluding them criminals.

  2. it’s a pity how people forget easily about their past has pf easily forgotten how they use to behave while they were in opposition shame of sakeni and his ndevu

  3. People should learn to respect them self hence they know that no body is above the law pls.Politicians shuold learn on how and they way the make there speach on the public.and our politicians should stop their bad behaviours and change for good.

  4. “….. and wondered where this kind of politiking will take the opposition leader” Well my answer is that this kind of politiking will definately take HH to Plot 1. If my memory serves me right, there once was an opposition leader who was behaving like HH is today and took throngs of cadres to DEC offices when summoned. Guess what, the opposition leader was elected president.

  5. Am very disappointed with PF for this undemocratic tendancy of deporting a man of God just imagine the same catholic priests presented us the down trodden during MMD government but nobody was deported.SHAME SHAME SHAME PF GOVERNMENT YOU BLUNDERED ON THIS ONE PLS SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND HUMBLE YOURSELVES AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS.

  6. *****s did u receive any requests to deport him?? Anyway fyenu ifyo naba Katolika wenu, where is father/less Bwalya now?? Catholics, its tym to reap wat u sow anyway……

  7. To the PF Government: Listen to this please;

    1. A wild boar has entered into the Vineyard of the Lord. 2. On you I will build my church and the powers of the neither world shall never prevail over it. 3. Whatever you bind on earth shall bound in heaven, whatever you lose on earth shall be loosened in heaven. 4. You are Simon Peter, which means rock on you I shall build my church, If a man stumbles on it he shall be pulverised, and if it stumbles on him, he shall be pulverised too.
PF heed to this simple advice or ignore it to your own peril. whoever has ears ( common sense) please listen!

  8. Zambians you are missing the point. The Govt.has given the reason for deporting the Priest it’s up to our learned lawyers to take the matter to court .The priest was not preaching the good. News but politics. We have thousands of missionaries who observe the Zambian law without comprising their faith. The Preist errored and it’s a lesson for all immigrants.Leave politics to Zambians Christ did not command us to revolt against the Gort. The Preist was not deported for preaching the Gospel but breaking the law.It doesn’t matter where the offence was committed. We have Pastors who speak I’ll of Govt. deported. The gospel is about knowing Christ and make him known. Its not by mighty nor by power Says the Lord but by his Spirit.
