Heads of Churches affiliated to the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) have noted with sadness the departure by the Patriotic Front government from the values and principles which they espoused during campaigns.
In a Pastoral Letter released to QFM News by CCZ General Secretary Reverend Suzanne Matale, following their gathering yesterday August 14, 2012, the Heads of Churches noted that the Patriotic Front (PF) came into power on the premise that it will respect the individual freedoms and rights of all citizens and residents, and that they will uphold the basic tenets of multi party democracy.
They however, say that it makes sad reading to see at this early stage a departure from the values and principles which the now ruling party espoused in their campaigns.
The CCZ Church leaders say they have noted with sadness the tendency for the ruling party not to embrace divergent views particularly from the opposition politicians.
They call upon the PF government to be inclusive, consultative within and without themselves and be willing to listen to the electorate.
They add that a culture of tolerance and respect for peers and all people should be entrenched in government and also in all citizens.
The CCZ church leaders say this act will enhance and help to galvanise all national interests towards social cohesion and sustainable development.
They have further called for professionalism in the police service and all law enforcement agencies so that the cause for law-enforcement is not misunderstood to be politically inspired.
They state that the right to free political speech should be protected, and should never give in to temptations that endanger the resolve to pay close attention to the sole purpose of governance, that is, addressing issues that affect the majority poor Zambians and to improve lives for all.
And the CCZ church leaders have described as the deportation of the Catholic Priest, Fr. Viateur Banyangandora, of Lundazi, as totally unacceptable and unfortunate.
They have since called for the nullification of his deportation so that the Priest can come back and continue his work of defending the poor as that is the core business of the Church.
They further describe his deportation as discriminatory and totally unjustified.
The Church leaders have also urged the government to help the nation grow its young democracy to maturity where governance is based on real objective decisions that would lead to development rather than for expediency.

:( Â its sad
Suzane Matale please read PF manifesto again..they have not departed from anything at all…you like a lot of people like father Bwalya were obssesed with riding the nation of RB you didnt see what MCS was saying…but we are not worried the Isrealites spent 40 years in the wilderness before they went to the promised land…we have only four years before MCS leaves during this period we shall all be made humble and choose wisely…….next presido is one born from 1964 and below…the rest retire you have had your chance…
Chama, you speaking sense. I like you comment.
You are still sleeping Chama, remove your BLANKET off your face.
I am with you Chama of this one. The tied guys should go and rest and just may be we may have a chance at achieving development. We were mislead that we needed someone with experience but look at where the so called experienced are taking us. For them, all solutions are what was obtaining in the first republic eg National Service
I can not believe the stupidity of some people !!! Why is it that Africans hate each other so much that they go to the extent of hating and killing each other? You are so unbelievable Chama, or maybe you still have your head buried in the sand? The manifesto is on a piece of paper! And it is totally contrary to the PF government’s behaviour at the moment !!! What propaganda !! We are watching you !
Cry my beloved zambia
Church leaders must be factual, in any case only God promises a perfect govt.
CCZ the defender of the marginalised, the poor, the voiceless, the defender of democracy and social justice. Very good reminder to our Govt indeed. But you alone cannot carry the burden on behalf of the 67% voters, on behalf of the 60% plus poverty stricken, on behalf of the 50% plus unemployed, retirees, on behalf of the defenders of democracy, and so on and so forth. You need ZEC, EFZ, LAZ, WOMEN for Change, NGOcc, TIZ, FODEP, SACCORD, in short an OASIS FORUM re-incarnate to advise and guide our beloved GOVT. to inspire us to our developmental agenda.
Stand up for your rights !!! Each and everyone who values democracy and hates dictators in any corner of the world !
Please come to the aid of our people!! Few/lonely voice crying out in the “wilderness” of the  injustices being meted out on anyone that dare come in the way of the ‘mighty’ Sata(n)
@ No.2 Susane Matale never supported PF but Mutale the one who has been sent in diplomatic missions abroad.
Thanx
She did.
Yes, now it is clear who should go to night school, hey. Lolest
It would be very helpful if those castigating Government could speak factually! Alas, even the CCZ leaders are sounding just like a howling wind – no facts to prove that the government is actually departing from furthering the interst of the nation!
SUCH NOISE MAKERS IN THIS COUNTRY!
You should be worried CCZ ,were have you been all this time
When the few descent people in PF begin realize that their ship is going nowhere, people will be jumping out of ship at record setting rates. The likes of Bob Sichinga and Given Lubinda will be the first to abandon ship. They will realize the brutal dictator at the head of the party is unprincipled and cannot be reasoned with. He is a thug with a sewer mouth. He only knows insults and intimidation and that is how he got people to work when he was at local govt and at health. But those skills of intimidation cannot work at presidential level. Zambia is doomed!!!
JUST SAY “”DROP CHARGES AGAINEST HH””. PERIOD.UNLESS PF HAS BECOME MARKETING MANAGERS FOR HH,THEN THEY SHOULD CONTINUE.
ccz and the rest should not wait for the deregestration of churches for them to realise that democracy is at stake we are yet to witneess the profecy of the man of God TBJ that there will be a change of government in a cetain country and pipo will remember the first government lets see
THE CURCH SHOULD CONDEMN THE PF & ITS GRZ. IT MUST NOT PLEAD WITH IT, THEY WAY IT WAS CONDEMNING MMD
I do not know what CCZ is morning about. We need specifics. If HH is arrested for being an alarmist, that does mean PF has departed from their promises. There is nothing wrong in arresting any one who makes statements which could bring our beloved nation into danger.
TOLERANCE has become the most abused word in Zambia! What happened to the rule of law? Laws are made to be followed and the  church should concentrate on preaching the word of GOD, not act as if they are a charity organisation whose job is to help the poor. All Zambians have a voice because everyone is free to vote. The loudest voice in politics is the vote not these corrupt clergy who everybody knows that they are biased. They were endorsing other candidates after been paid to appear in front the camera, how do you trust them? Political leaders should know the laws of Zambia better than  their voters.
Zambia is doomed, I agree. Especially that there are too many blind people who are using their emotions for their political leaders instead of their brains. These people are too blind to see and accept that this political era is utmost dictatorial !!! No matter how much you deny this fact, everyone is beginning to recognise the signs and symptoms of a dictatorship blossoming in Zambia. Democracy has been long gone !!!!!
police on the spot light again, its too early for people to regret  PF in power, please help the poor
#2 ,your statement is conflicting but i presume you meant…..next presido 1964 and above, and those born b4 1964 shud retire.the isrealites would have taken 11 days to reach the promised land but it took them 40 years..the main reason is they doubted MOSES and GOD ,they didnt have faith.their mentality was too much of egypt culture,so GOD decided that they develop an absolute faith in him lest they drift away when they face the enermy.but zambia has had 48 yrs since independence and from GOD s view point we shud be living in the land of milk and honey but this is not the case.we have been going back (under chiluba) and forth(under mwanawasa),stuck in the wildness(under banda) and heading back to egypt under(sata).this is very sad for mother zambia.but as a country what have we learnt?
Be serious on National issues please, what do you want our elected leaders to do, fold their hands and watch those no good opposition leaders tarnish the good name of the country, or are you asking for the leaders to allow a situation where church Ministers turn the pulpit into political pulpit, no, church pulpit is to preach the crucified Savior, the dying lamb of God, and the Lord of Lords. Please church do not be like pharisees. The church should be in the forefront to educate members of society to up hold the law and not break the law, so why are you accusing the Government of departure, departure from what. Did PF sign any MoU with the church or what, shame church.
Satan I promise u, you will serve a lengthy jail sentence in yo old age for crimes against humanity.
This organization called CCZ does not represent me because am neither a Pentecostal nor a sunday worshiper am a Seventh day Adventist member so their reasoning has no support from me and as far as am concerned they are talking crap. Â Â
Ba PF bloggers, why are u blinding yourselves? Its clear Pf has departed and if sata died today, Zambians will go back to MMD in three months. Advise your man in case he is too old.
We need a flashback of Chanda Chimba’s documentaries – I think the parallels wud amazing
Law is Law.What is so special about arresting HH he is a citizen like me.This does not mean PF has lost direction if anything they are bringing sanity to our nation freedom does not mean breaking the law.Human rights should not in any way promote evil period. Its not all the time that Human right promte morals. Can you allow a naked (normal) person to walk the streets of Lusaka or a witch to do his evil act in full view of the public ,to them its human right but to us its evil so is those trying to revolt against this Govt.Cage evil men viva Police
