United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that Zambia is headed towards a one party State under the Patriotic Front leadership.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday following the refusal by the Police to grant his party permission to hold another rally in Kanyama that was scheduled for 16th September, 2012, Mr Hichilema said that it was now clear that the country is heading towards a one party State.

Mr Hichilema said that President Michael Sata and his government should concentrate on issues of national development instead of the UPND by denying them the right to hold rallies.

He said that there are currently a number of issues that need government attention such the increase in mealie meal prices and the chaos in the cotton market.

Mr Hichilema said that the behavior by the PF government is a clear indication that the country is being turned into a dictatorship.

The UPND leader has further urged the police to direct their attention on criminals rather than his party.

And Mr Hichilema has questioned why some people seem to be fabricating stories that he had failed to heed to the call by the MMD to have its candidate fielded in the forth-coming elections.

Mr. Hichilema accused the post Newspaper of having a hidden political agenda adding that it was certain that the PF government is feeling the political pressure from UPND.

But PF media and publicity Director Chanda Mfula noted that it has become fashionable for the UPND and the MMD to speak to the media at all times even when they have nothing of value to tell the nation.

Mr Chanda told QFM News in a statement that it is embarrassing for the two parties to spend much of their time in the opposition, at the doorstep of media houses peddling lies and nonconstructive criticism at the expense of contributing towards the development of the country.

He added that it is also amusing to watch the leaders of the MMD and UPND try to outdo each other in terms of who gets more airplay with their press conferences and statements.

Mr Chanda said that there was need for President Michael Sata and his government to be given space to continue with the progress the country is making towards improving the welfare of the people.

  1. These Zambian medias as well like going for trivial political nonsensical news. Its not even election time and we are already getting such usual political nonsense as news. Follow up on promises which were made. A new Hydro electro dam was singed to be constructed, how far with the new stadium in Lusaka, whats happening with the upgrading/construction of Airports, any progress in the roads rehabilitation, how is the new hospital progressing, etc. Not always reporting on this crap. You are giving these politician a platform to misbehave and just be useless. PLEASE BE THE PEOPLES VOICE!

  2. Its already a one party dictatorship looking to reverse all deals regardless of procedures or court orders and deregister all other political parties on flimsy grounds. We’re doomed and hell bound with PF in charge.

  3. Development can only prosper in an environment where there is freedom. People would rather be hungry than surrender their freedom to a tin-pot dictator. That is why our brothers and sisters in South Africa sacrificed their lives for freedom despite the country’s economic development. Every Zambian has right to freedom of expression

  4. PF IS TO BLAME FOR ALL THIS MESS. JUST WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT HH??

IF PF HAD IGNORED HIM, HE WOULD DIED A NATURAL DEATH.

PF HAS INSTEAD RAISED HH’S PROFILE TO AN EXTENT THAT A VILLAGER IN KASHIKISHI EVEN THINKS HH IS PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL BECAUSE WHY THE FUSS COMING FROM PF?????

ANYWAY POLITICIANS NEVER LEARN AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

  5. let pafwaka and its hyenas look at the escarleting mealie meal prices, medicines in hospitals, unreasonably hiking of bus fares.we are especting more from your 90 days ubufyi.Dont waste you ernergy on people who tying to make on the checks and balances

  6. The reasoning of some PF cadres is amazing for sure. When PF was campaigning they did not promise people that they will introduce dictatorship. Infact they promised to strenghten democracy and freedom of expression. They should live to that promise, period!

  7. I can’t believe dat we r going back 2 dictatorship type of rule when other countries are striving hard to attain democracy.

  8. Attention Mr. Chanda Mfula There
is no development in your country,

no visible projects which anyone can identify. Your people are asking you about the progress of the construction of hydro-electricity power stations, the rehabilitation of the roads, upgrading of airports. construction of hospitals/clinics, and the improvement of education system in Zambia. Honestly speaking, the opposition is standing on your way in improving the above needs of Zambians and all those who reside in Zambia. There is physical threat or anything nearer to this threat, which the UNPD or MMD can pose to you. Stop giving your people lame excuses, just deliver. The opposition should be allowed to conduct their activities without any hinderence at any time. Don’t prescribe as and when they oppose

  9. But these issues of democracy are equally important. if govt is doing these things they already have media like znbc, post, daily mail reporting these things. I feel we should advocate for human rights regardless of  who is affected. we should not wait for a situation were we only speak out when our own rights are trampled upon which maybe too late. I remember that time KK saying MMD were thieves, but most people called him bitter for having been removed from power and they supported FTJ without being objective, by the time they woke up, the country was plundered. today it maybe some else and tomorrow might be you who might be trampled on. so lets support things on principle and not looking at who is affected. a wrong will always be a wrong, we need a better country for everyone.

  10. PF cadres are so brain washed and following their failed leader blindly who has thrived on lies. With them even common sense is not so common. A system that is bent on curtailing the people’s freedoms is doomed to fail. Zambians have known one party state and its a road they do not want to travel again. Down with proponents of policies that wish to control people’s thinking!!

  11. This guy makes me laugh a lot. ‘And Mr Hichilema has questioned why some people seem to be fabricating stories that he had failed to heed to the call by the MMD to have its candidate fielded in the forth-coming elections’. Its clear that this marriage is only on convenience.

    • How do you feel after insulting others Silencer. We understand that it is easy to see all mistakes when you are not in the football field in a game, but sometimes take time to relook and rethink on what people are saying before making accusations. I love SATA myself but I do not agree with everything that he is doing. I know that even HH would not do everything according to what we would expect of him. These are politicians, they know how to treat each other. You and me should make them give us what we deserve so that you should not have to send money for your family in Zambia every time and they should be sustaining themselves from job creation and other ventures.

  12. This is interesting indeed. Pa ZED, ‘Mr Chanda told QFM News in a statement that it is embarrassing for the two parties to spend much of their time in the opposition, at the doorstep of media houses peddling lies and nonconstructive criticism at the expense of contributing towards the development of the country’.

  13. i wish the pf government would focus their attention on working rather than beig petty, i think thus what can help zambians instead everyday wasting their time on insulting hh. pipo voted for u to work and not hh.

  14. The PF is failing on developmental programs and they have turned to sentimental and dictatorial means of governance such as imposing curfews on social events and increased RTSA patrols.
The PF seems to be undermined in ability to tackle unemployment. The government claims to have created 20,000 jobs in a year and yet all these are street vending jobs.
The President has shown a lack of leadership by being unable to sack under-performing and gaffe prone ministers.
The PF is trying to do so much without understanding resources at its disposals.
PF supporters- Turkeys cheering for xmas!!!

  15. I totally agree with #1&2.HH is not not news to follow pls.He has failed to attract the whole of Zambia to his party except his home province how can he expect to rule the whole country. He should spend more time outlining how he hopes to improve the economy once in power.Spending time blaming current government which has been in power for 11months is not realistic.SO journelists take advice of #1

  16. HH is the man, these Kolwestans are taking advantage of the peace have in our country. let these congolese go back to congo where they came from. These Kolwestans are so tribal- Guess who is condaming HH- Mwamba,Chanda,Chishala,Chisenga,Musonda,Sata the Homosexual,Chellah,Nsanda,Chikwanda,Sichinga,Nawakwi, etc. This thick tribal forest has to be cut!! VIVA HH!! VIVA UPND!!

  17. Senior bantu-stan went to the Police and insulted them before the cameras and he forgot that they are the ones to facilitate his disillusioned campaigns. Just apologies bwana and stop this cat and mouse business with Dr Jere.

  18. I totally agree with number one. it seems the media think anything from a politician’s mouth even when is self proclaimed leader is a news headline at the expense of real news. LT, take a leaf from number 1.

  19. Rubbish Rubbish. You PF guys please ignore this HH, he is not a factor in Zambian political arena. Why wasting time on a person who is not known in Lusaka nor Copperbelt? Give him all rights to hold 4 rallies in a week. HH and UPND are nonentities in Zambia who shall always be number 3 in every election. PF please, I am pleading with you, ignore HH given that he is so inconsequential.

  20. The blood of Jesus and the Fire of God we entreat thee on behalf of HH. The blood of Jesus speaks greater and louder things than the enemies of HH. Though they conspire and gather, they are not of God and will fall down as the plot against HH. Any satanic covert manouvre against HH, abort and die right now; in Jesus name. All spirit of divination and wickedness against HH, die right now!! All blessings in Psalms 23 and 91 manifest full for HH, in Jesus name. Never suffer a witch to live; therefore any person who hates HH, I speak calamity and obliteration from ZED in Jesus’ name. All who throw arrows of hate, culumny and anger against HH, back to sender in full measure in Jesus’ name.

  21. HH is not a politician he wants to use the same path PF used it won’t work. The freedom of speech has not  affected any one otherwise HH will not hold press meetings day in day out. Please advise HH to work with the Govt of the day to aliviate poverty in our great nation.Zambians it’s high time we ignore such leaders who have no heart for our country spending their energy on things that favour them.Pse let us discuss issue based topics and not holding rallies aimed at provoking each other.

  22. No partisan prayers the Lord loves all Zambians.Jesus died for us all.The Lord weighs our hearts.Personally I am very doubtful whether HH can be given the mandate to rule our great nation. He has no hear for the poor.Todays politics is not about me but all. Sata so far had proved to be a good leader .He may have skeletons but there is order now no wonder HH is panicking PF last year had a message for change .Viva to Police you are doing a good job it’s time to work no more politics.Cage all trouble makers

  23. @ 29 Add value one wonders how much you have been paid to waffle. Dont forget Sata spent 10 yrs criticising everything the MMD did even the building of the hospital at Chainama and the building of the stadium in Ndola. Who said they should also not be criticised? You keep contradicting yourself by saying that HH is not known in Lusaka and CB and yet you know him and the govt is talking about him everyday!
